May 3 Bulletin - An Open and Affirming Church

Meditation: But what happens when we live God’s way? God
brings gifts into our lives, much the way that fruit appears in an
orchard – things like affection for others, exuberance about life,
serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of
compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness
permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal
commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal
and direct our energies wisely.

GATHERING SONG
“Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”
SUNG TO HYFRYDOL
Love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heaven, to earth come down;
Fix in us thy humble dwelling, all thy faithful mercies crown;
Jesus, thou art all compassion, pure unbounded love thou art;
Visit us with thy salvation, enter every trembling heart.
INVOCATION

CALL TO WORSHIP
Liturgist
In the midst of creation, in the fields and towns, to all who
will listen
I will tell of your love.
In the company of the poor, in the presence of the mighty, to
all who will listen
I will tell of your love.
Your love is more than words, your love is real and active; to
all who will listen
I will tell of your love.
*HYMN
“Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”
SUNG TO HYFRYDOL
Breathe, O Breathe thy loving Spirit into every troubled breast;
Let us all in thee inherit, let us find thy promised rest;
Take away the love of sinning, Alpha and Omega be;
End of faith, as its beginning, set our hearts at liberty.
Come, almighty to deliver, let us all thy life receive;
Suddenly return, and never, never more thy temples leave;
Thee we would be always blessing, serve thee as thy hosts above;
Pray, and praise thee without ceasing, glory in thy perfect love.
2
Finish, then, thy new creation, pure and spotless let us be;
Let us see thy great salvation, perfectly restored in thee;
Changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place;
Till we cast our crowns before thee, lost in wonder, love and praise.
CALL TO CONFESSION
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Hidden Christ, reveal yourself to me. Tear through the
prejudices which like a veil wrap me around and blind
and deafen me to your presence. Shatter the arrogant
assumptions which define where and when I might expect
to meet you. Throw down the image I have made of you,
which is in reality my own image. Then when I am naked
and vulnerable, stripped of everything but openness, send
me out to encounter you afresh in the resurrection garden
of your world. Amen.

relationship with God. Gluten-free bread is available.

As you know, on Saturday, April 25, a devastating
earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter Scale hit Nepal,
leveling vast areas of the capital city of Kathandu and
the surrounding areas, and causing landslides on Mount
Everest. The UCC will be responding through One
Great Hour of Sharing, working with the Act Alliance, a
consortium of faith-based organizations headquartered
in Geneva. For churches and individuals who would
like to donate to our response, please give to the UCC
International Emergency Relief Fund. Please pray for
our sisters and brothers in Nepal and give generously.
Blessed To Be A Blessing. “I will make you
into a great nation and I will bless you; I will
make your name great, and you will be a
blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and
whoever curses you, I will curse; and all peoples
on earth will be blessed through you. (Gen
