BACKGROUND:
Right To Play is an international development organization that uses specially-designed sport and
play programs to improve health, build life skills, and foster peace for children and communities
affected by war, poverty and disease. Working in both the humanitarian and development
context, Right To Play has projects in more than 20 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and
South America.
Right To Play is a global-scale implementer of Sport for Development and Peace programs and
takes an active role in driving research and policy development in this area and in supporting
children’s rights.
The Promoting Life-skills in Aboriginal Youth (PLAY) program partners with First Nations
communities and urban Aboriginal organizations across Ontario and Manitoba to deliver
community-driven, culturally-relevant play-based programming designed to enhance leadership,
self-confidence, and self-efficacy among children and youth. Guided by an Indigenous community
development model, PLAY and its partners create safe and inclusive spaces where children and
youth can share their ideas, their hopes and their fears, and learn the skills to become positive
agents of change.

JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, the Monitoring & Evaluation Assistant is
responsible for supporting the overall monitoring and evaluation system for all Right To Play
programs in First Nations communities. The ultimate goal of this role is to support the
development, implementation and reporting of Monitoring & Evaluation systems which have been
built to ensure that Right To Play programs in First Nations communities contribute to a healthier
and safer world through sport and play by facilitating continuous organizational learning,
providing credible evidence and improving program effectiveness.

With the direction of the M&E Officer, the M&E Assistant’s primary focus is to support the PLAY
program’s participatory M&E system, to process and analyze collected data, and to report on the
impact of the PLAY program. For more information on Right To Play’s PLAY program in First

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Job Responsibility #1 PROGRAM DATA COLLECTION & MANAGEMENT (% of Time 30%)
The M&E Assistant will support the M&E Officer in collection of program data, including but not
limited to:
 Collecting monthly reports from PLAY Community Mentors
 Collecting various reports and feedback associated with specific PLAY program
components (i.e. Community Mentor Feedback, Support Staff Feedback, Summer
Program)
 Assisting M&E Officer in design of M&E tools that are culturally appropriate and informed
by existing best practices in Indigenous Methodologies
 Assist the M&E Officer to maintain the electronic reporting system including the back -end
organization of data and the front end accessibility for users
Job Responsibility #2 DATA ANALYSIS & REPORTING (% of Time 70%)
Assist the M&E Officer in quantitative and qualitative reporting of program results, including but
not limited to:





Assist M&E Officer in processing of assessment data, including but not limited to
transcribing interviews, data entry, etc.
Analysis of qualitative and quantitative data related to mid-term and end of program
assessment, including but not limited to interviews with Community Mentors, youth
participants, and community members
Collection of additional data (i.e. quotes, stories, etc.) to support data collected through
routine program reporting
Analysis of program statistics for the purpose of regular reporting on program
participation and engagement
Assisting M&E Officer in coordination of interviews, story submissions, and photo
collection for use in quarterly reports
EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION:
Required (must have):

Degree in social sciences, in the any of the following areas: Social Science (i.e. Sociology,
Psychology, etc.), Community Services, Statistics, Aboriginal specific programs
(Community advocacy, education, family and child services); Aboriginal studies; Studies in
teaching and education; International Development

Desired:
 Trained or willing to be trained in participatory monitoring and evaluation theories and
methods
EXPERIENCE
Required (must have):

Previous experience of data analysis in the work setting, either in a full-time role, or
internships
Desired:
 Experience in creating monitoring and assessment tools
 Experience working with a variety of stakeholders
 Experience or education in Indigenous Methodologies, and/or history of aboriginal
research
 Suggested skills: workshop and/or other facilitation experience; experience working with
children and youth in leadership capacity; community development experience;
experience in qualitative data collection (i.e. focus group discussion, interviews, etc.)
IT KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
Required (must have):



Knowledge of Microsoft programs.
Able to navigate internet and email use.
Familiar with office equipment.
