PLENARY INDULGENCE DURING THE YEAR
OF CONSECRATED LIFE!
On the occasion of this special Year, Pope Francis has conceded plenary
indulgences, under the customary conditions: the individual be in the state
of grace by the completion of the acts, have complete detachment from sin,
and pray for the Pope’s intentions. The person must also sacramentally confess
their sins and receive Communion, up to about twenty days before or after the
indulgenced act.
The period for gaining this indulgence began on the First Sunday of Advent
2014 and will conclude on February 2, 2016, the day of the closure of the Year
of Consecrated Life. In the Diocese of Lafayette a plenary indulgence may be
obtained during those days devoted to consecrated life and during diocesan
celebrations organized for the Year of Consecrated Life (by participating in any
Votive Mass for Consecrated or Religious Life, Vocations Awareness, Jubilarian
Mass, etc) or by visiting any of the following designated places:
•
Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, Lafayette
•
Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Lafayette
•
Saint Charles Borromeo Church, Grand Coteau
•
Saint Martin de Tours, St. Martinville
•
Mother of the Redeemer Monastery, * Plaisance
•
Carmelite Monastery, * Lafayette
•
Mater Dolorosa Chapel, *St. Martinville
In order to obtain the plenary indulgence, one must publicly recite the Liturgy
of the Hours (please note places that are marked with an asterisk all have public
recitation of the Divine Office; please contact them for times) or devote a
suitable period of time for devout reflection, concluding with the Lord’s Prayer,
the Creed, and pious invocation of the Virgin Mary.
PRAYER FOR THE YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE
O God, throughout the ages you have called women and men to pursue lives
of perfect charity through the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and
obedience. During this Year of Consecrated Life, we give you thanks for these
courageous witnesses of Faith and models of inspiration. Their pursuit of holy
lives teaches us to make a more perfect offering of ourselves to you. Continue
to enrich your Church by calling forth sons and daughters who, having found
the pearl of great price, treasure the Kingdom of Heaven above all things.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the
unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen

READINGS FOR THE WEEK
“My heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is MONDAY, May 18: Acts 19:1-8, Jn 16:29-33, TUESDAY,
that they may be saved.” Romans 10:1
May 19: Acts 20:17-27, Jn 17:1-11a, WEDNESDAY,
Mes chers amis,
On this feast of Our Lord’s Ascension into Heaven, we celebrate
the fact that humanity - our human nature - is forever united to
God and in His holy presence. This great mystery gives us hope…
that we who are Christ’s body - will one day be fully joined to
Him, the Head. As the Apostles watched our Lord ascend into
the skies, they heard Him tell them to wait for His Father to
fulfill the promised gift of the Holy Spirit. And so, as the Acts of
the Apostles tells us, they gathered with Our Lady in the Upper
Room with great faith. On this solemnity of the Ascension, our
gaze is directed toward the feast of Pentecost. Let us fix our gaze
to Heaven where Christ Jesus is ascended, and with Our Lady’s
powerful intercession, prepare our hearts to receive the gifts
of the Holy Spirit anew. Come, Holy Spirit, come by the means
of the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
your well beloved spouse!
Dans le Sacré Cœur du Christ,
Fr. Vidrine
ADORATION CHAPEL
We are blessed, here in Ville Platte, to have Perpetual
(twenty-four hour) Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
available to us at the Mercy Regional Hospital Chapel.
Parishioners are invited to stop by the chapel and spend
some time, as often as they wish, in prayer before Our
Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. If you are interested in
becoming a regularly scheduled adorer or a substitute
adorer, please phone 337-363-4533 for more information.
There are currently openings for adorers Sundays at 1
a.m. and 5 a.m. Please phone the number above, if you
are interested in taking one of these vacancies.
“Of all devotions, that of adoring Jesus in the Blessed
Sacrament is the greatest after the sacraments, the one
dearest to God and the one most helpful to us.
– St. Alphonsus of Liguori
