NOVEMBER 2013
Well another year is coming to a
close, seems to go faster and
faster.
The big news is there is NO bus
trip to Chicago, just did not get
enough to sell the bus out, so,
another idea is- Car pool anyone?
We had 10-15 say they wanted to
go, probably 3 or 4 car loads and
we could all get there, same
schedule. Leave Canton area around
6/6:30am on Nov 23rd, get back
around 11pm, midnight?? PLEASE let
me know if you would like to do
this and we will get it set up,
also if you would be willing to
drive and how many fit in your
vehicle.
If you missed the Cider Mill, you
missed a great day for a
countryside cruise and the great
tastes of cider and doughnuts,
carmel apples, etc! Had a good
turnout and want to thank all that
came.
Hope to see you at our next
meeting, Papa Romanos in Plymouth.
Sincerely, Randy "Doc" Martin

FROM THE Vice-Pres…
WOW... November is here and 2013
is almost over. That means our
Camaros will be in hibernation for
the next 4-5 months (depending on
weather). That does not mean that
EMCC goes into hibernation!! While
our activities are low, we still
have our monthly meetings, plan
for CSF 2014 and other events for
next spring and summer. Yup, we’re
still busy!
I don’t know if I’ll get the
December newsletter out in a
timelt fashion, so I’ll mention it
here – my annual model railroad
open house/layout tour is Sunday,
Dec 8th from 12 noon to 5pm. Marge
will also be holding another
jewelry show & sale. I’ll have
maps at the Christmas party and
see later in this HUGGER.
I hope to see you at some of our
meetings and activities.

EMCC TRIP TO CHITOWN
There is a very good car show in
Chicago every November – the
Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals
(formerly Chevy-Vettefest). This
year it will be on Nov. 23-24.
As Randy mentioned, we did not get
enough people to get a bus. How
about car-pooling or renting a
large van? This would be a great
place to pass out CSF pre-event
flyers! If you are interested,
give Randy a shout!

MI FRONT PLATES??
There is a Bill in the Michigan
Senate that would make front
license plates mandatory in
Michigan once again. An email was
sent to members, suggesting they
sign an online petition. EMCC
member Kristen Lingenfelter also
sent this messageI just wanted to share some
information regarding this bill.
This is Senate Bill 654 (2013) http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(m

This bill was referred to
Transportation Committee which is
chaired by Senator Tom Casperson
517-373-7840. If you have a minute
call Senator Casperson and express
you opinion. Your call will make a
difference!! The message from my
State Senator Joe Hune’s office
today – “The bill will probably
die in committee but that will be
the end of next year, or this 2
year legislative cycle.” I will
keep you updated with any new
information that we receive.
Yesterday morning it was pretty
deceiving watching the morning
news making it sound like this law
was about to go into law at any
moment. Thanks, Kristen

NEWS FROM SCOTT-
Good morning, Camaro Comrades,
Firebird Friends, and Corvette
Cousins!
They said it couldn't be done.....
They said the car was too heavy...
that it would never handle......
At the time, I told a few nonbelievers that I'd serve them up
their words.. (...and you know who
you are...) That day for 'serving
up words' has come for the third
time!
The first was the mighty ZL1 and then we brought you a 1LE -And now you can see that the
rebirth of the Z/28 celebrates the
history of the original Z/28....
and you can read about its
incredible performance at the
famed Nurburgring in the
rain. Adam Dean, our "Team Camaro"
driver has achieved world-class
time - in inclement weather, no
less! You see, we have some of the
world's best engineers and
designers that make up "Team
Camaro" And what a team it is! And
it's those men and women that
bring you these performance
legends. Now, you don't have to
take my word for it... Yesterday
we hosted a group of Journalists
(and a few others...) to get an
in-depth look at the Z and to take
a ride in it at the Milford Road
Course. You'll be able to read
about it in their words- not minevery shortly. It is indeed a GREAT
TIME to be a Camaro Enthusiast!

Track-capable Camaro Z/28
Validated at Nürburgring
DETROIT – Chevrolet today revealed
a video of the all-new, 2014
Camaro Z/28 lapping Germany’s
challenging Nürburgring road
course in 7:37.40, a time
comparable with some of the
world’s most prestigious sports
cars. The Z/28’s lap is four
seconds faster than the Camaro
ZL1, and beats published times for
the Porsche 911 Carrera S and the
Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. The
Z/28’s lap was completed on lessthan-ideal conditions, with damp
pavement and pouring rain near the
end of the run. "One of the
challenges of testing at the Ring
is that the track is so long that
conditions can change radically in
a single lap,"said Al Oppenheiser,
Camaro chief engineer. "Adam Dean,
the development driver for Z/28,
did a heroic job driving in
deteriorating conditions. Based on
telemetry data from our test
sessions, we know the Z/28 can be
as much as six seconds faster on a
dry track."
In terms of lap times, the Z/28’s
improved speed came from three
areas:
· Increased grip: The Z/28 is
capable of 1.08 g in cornering
acceleration, due to comprehensive
chassis revisions
· Increased stopping power: The
Z/28 features Brembo carbonceramic brakes capable of 1.5 g in
deceleration, and consistent brake
feel lap after lap
· Reduced curb weight: The
naturally aspirated Z/28 weighs
300 pounds less than the
supercharged Camaro ZL1, with
changes ranging from lightweight
wheels to thinner rear-window
glass.
The heart of the Z/28 is the 7.0L
LS7 engine. The LS7 uses
lightweight, racing-proven, highperformance components, such as
titanium intake valves and
connecting rods, CNC-ported
aluminum cylinder heads and a
forged-steel crankshaft to help
produce an SAE-certified 505
horsepower (376 kW) & 481 lb-ft of
torque (652 Nm). Air-conditioning
is available, but only as an
option. A close-ratio six-speed
manual transmission is the only
transmission offered and power is
distributed to the rear wheels via
a limited-slip differential
featuring a helical gear set,
rather than traditional clutch
packs. The new design enables the
driver to apply more power and get
through corners faster, by making
the most of the capability of
individual-wheel antilock brake
function during corner entry
braking, mid-corner speed and
corner-exit traction.
The team spent a week at the
Nürburgring as part of the Z/28's
performance-validation regimen,
accumulating a total of 10 hours
and nearly 1,000 miles on the
track. Each lap took less than
eight minutes to complete, despite
having to overtake slower traffic
at times. These hours are part of
the grueling 24-Hour Test, which
simulates a full year's worth of
track use of track days or
amateur-level competition at the
hands of an owner.
“Passing the 24-Hour Test is a
requirement for all cars we call
'track capable,’” said Wayne
McConnell, director of global
vehicle performance. "The test
pushes the car at 10/10ths on the
track for a total of 24 hours.
During the test the only
mechanical changes allowed are
replacing the brakes and tires.”
The 24-Hour Test is broken into a
number of segments over the course
of several days – and even at
different tracks – to evaluate
performance in precisely measured
and carefully monitored
increments. Crucially, each valid
test lap must be run within 2
percent of a target lap speed to
count toward the 24-hour total.
The 24-Hour Test was first used in
the early 1990s for the fourthgeneration Corvette. Back then,
the 300-horsepower Corvette was
Chevrolet’s most powerful vehicle,
and the 24-Hour Test measured 15
channels of data. Today, the 2014
Camaro LS offers a 323-horsepower
V-6, while the Camaro Z/28’s
racing-proven LS7 7.0L small-block
V-8 delivers 505 horsepower, and
the 24-Hour Test measures 130
channels of data. “Our cars'
performance and capability have
advanced tremendously in the past
20 years, which required us to
continually improve the parameters
of the 24-Hour Test," said
McConnell. "Today’s test pushes
the car harder than the vast
majority of customers ever will.
As a result, when we call a car
‘track capable’ we are confident
that it will perform reliably and
consistently for our customers.”

2014 COPO Camaro ready
Subject: SEMA
By Jeffrey Ross
Nov. 5, 2013
Unveiled just blocks from the Las
Vegas Strip, the 2014 Chevrolet
COPO Camaro made its big debut at
SEMA preparing to hit a different
kind of strip. This purpose-built
drag car is pretty much a carryover from recent COPO cars, with
just 69 planned for production and
with the new 2014 Camaro styling.
Looking to stage up against
Mustang Cobra Jets and Challenger
Drag Paks, the 2014 COPO Camaro
offers racers the option of three
V8 engines - a naturally aspirated
427-cubic-inch V8 or supercharged
350- and 396-cubic engine. The
COPO also comes with a roll cage,
solid rear axle and some massive
Hoosier drag slicks out back.
Matching its sometimes-trailerqueen status, the COPO was sitting
on the show floor being towed
behind a painted-to-match 2015
Chevy Silverado HD dually. Aside
from the color, the truck has also
been SEMA-fied with aluminum
wheels and a handful of Chevy
accessories.
No word yet on pricing for the
COPO (or when production will
commence), but the first to roll
off the assembly line will be
auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson
in January. Racers interested in
purchasing one must sign up for
the COPO mailing list at
chevrolet.com.

MORE news from SEMA - it IS INDEED
a GREAT time to be a Chevrolet
Performance Enthusiast!
Chevrolet Performance Cars Flex
Muscles at SEMA Show
Concept Corvette, Camaro and SS
models highlight breadth of
performance range
LAS VEGAS – Chevrolet provided
the first look at nine highperformance concept cars today at
the SEMA Show. The horsepowerinfused range includes stylized
versions the all-new 2014 Corvette
Stingray, SS sports sedan and a
variety of restyled 2014 Camaros –
including the all-new Z/28.
"From the all-new Corvette
Stingray to the new Camaro Z/28
and SS performance sedan,
Chevrolet is America's choice for
performance cars. Our new lineup
of racing-influenced models gives
customers more choices for
exciting driving experiences,"
said Chris Perry, vice president
of Chevrolet marketing. "It's our
most diverse range of performancecar choices in nearly 20 years."
Through the end of September,
Camaro's total sales lead over
Mustang was more than 5,000 for
the year, putting it on track to
be the industry's best-selling
sports car under $50,000 for the
fourth consecutive year. The
Camaro enters 2014 with revised
styling and the new Z/28 model –
the most track-capable Camaro in
the car's history.
The all-new SS returns Chevrolet
to its rear-wheel-drive
performance sedan roots,
established with the small-block
V-8 in the 1950s and enhanced with
the Impala SS in the early 1960s.
And Chevrolet dealers can hardly
keep the all-new Corvette Stingray
in stock, with sold orders rolling
to new owners off transporters.
"Racing is the common thread
among Chevrolet's performance cars
and that comes from decades of
transferring race technology to
our production models," said Jim
Campbell, GM U.S. vice president
of Performance Vehicles and
Motorsports. "Corvette, Camaro and
SS deliver well-balanced,
exhilarating driving experiences
forged on the racetrack and
refined for the street."
Many of the concepts unveiled at
the SEMA Show have roots at the
racetrack. Others show racinginfluenced styling for the street.
Most incorporate Chevrolet
Accessories available from
Chevrolet dealers, allowing
customers to personalize their new
performance car with factoryengineered and validated
components that match the
performance and quality of
original equipment.
Chevrolet Performance Garage
Camaro
Serious performance enthusiasts
will appreciate the combination of
Chevrolet Performance parts and
Chevrolet Accessories used to
create the Garage Camaro concept,
which is based on the production
Camaro SS. It's a track-oriented
car, incorporating performance and
suspension components from the new
Z/28 and a few from the ZL1.
The exterior is enhanced with a
ground effects package, Chevrolet
Accessories rear spoiler and
grille, RS headlamps and
taillamps, blacked-out mirrors and
rear diffuser, and Chevrolet
Accessories satin-black 10-spoke
Track Pack wheels. "Chevrolet
Performance" graphics adorn the
rockers and windshield header.
Brakes and a short-throw shifter
from the Camaro ZL1 come straight
out of the Chevrolet Performance
catalog and are available through
Chevrolet dealers, while the
following Z/28 parts are being
evaluated by Chevrolet Performance
for future release:
*"Shorty" exhaust headers and
2.75-inch exhaust system
*Front ride/handling links
*Rear upper control arms
*Stabilizer bars
*Helical differential with
internal cooling system
*Brake ducts
*Racing-derived DSSV® (Dynamic

Chevrolet Performance Camaro V-8
Concept
This one-of-a-kind concept car

exhaust. Many components are
available through Chevrolet

*Ground effects package
*Chevrolet Access. rear spoiler

*Soft-touch black interior bezels.
On the performance side, this
Camaro concept incorporates a
performance air intake, ZL1 brake
kit and ZL1 short-throw shifter,
along with these concept parts
from the 2014 Camaro Z/28:
2.75-Inch exhaust system
Front ride link
Rear upper control arms
Shorty exhaust headers
Helical differential with internal
cooling system
DSSV dampers
Brake ducts
Stabilizer bars.
Chevrolet Performance Camaro V-6
concept
With 323 horsepower from its
direct-injected, DOHC V-6, the
Camaro doesn't need a V-8 to be
considered a performance car, and
this Chevrolet Performance concept
proves it with enhancements
available through Chevrolet
dealers that give it track-ready
reflexes, including:
Brembo brake kit from the Camaro
SS
Camaro 1LE suspension kit
Camaro 1LE strut tower brace
Borla performance exhaust system
20-inch black wheels (45th
anniversary design).
The car also wears Z/28 rear upper
control arms, which are being
evaluated for the Chevrolet
Performance catalog.
Exterior and interior appearance
accessories lend a more athletic
aesthetic to this more-capable
Camaro. The exterior features a
Chevrolet Accessories grille,
front splitter and rear spoiler,
along with "Chevrolet Performance"
graphics. Inside, it is ready for
the road course or street, with:
Chevrolet Accessories premium
carpet floor mats
