Celebrating our most inspiring alumni Nominations GUIDE Nominations close Friday 26 June alumni.uts.edu.au/alumni-awards UTS: Alumni Awards 2015 Purpose of Awards Each year the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) formally recognises and celebrates the outstanding achievements of UTS alumni as well as graduates from our six antecedent institutions. The UTS Alumni Awards showcase the breadth and depth of UTS’s alumni community and the extraordinary ways in which UTS graduates are contributing to their profession and society as a whole. We are seeking nominations for alumni who have achieved success in professional, academic or research areas, have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation and/or creativity, and who have contributed to the community through their work. The Awards recognise the contributions of alumni who have graduated from each of UTS’s seven faculties with facultyspecific awards. The Awards program also includes three additional categories; the UTS Community Alumni Award, the UTS International Alumni Award and the UTS Young Alumni Award. All winners are then considered for the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence. The Awards will be presented at a special gala dinner attended by the UTS community, on Thursday 22 October 2015. Contents Award Categories 2 Eligibility Criteria 3 Nomination Process 4 Previous Alumni Award Recipients5 alumni.uts.edu.au/alumni-awards 1 UTS: Alumni Awards 2015 Award Categories Faculty Awards Faculty Awards are presented to graduates who demonstrate high level achievement in their chosen field which has brought significant success or contributes to the success of an organisation or project. Alumni do not have to be working in the discipline from which they graduated. The UTS Alumni Awards recognise alumni from each of UTS’s seven faculties: • • • • • • • Arts and Social Sciences Business Design, Architecture and Building Engineering and IT Law Nursing, Midwifery and Health Science Special Awards Chancellor’s Award for Excellence The Chancellor’s Award for Excellence is selected from the category award recipients by UTS Chancellor Professor Vicki Sara. The recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence also becomes a UTS Luminary. UTS Luminaries are graduates who have a reputation which is widespread and acknowledged – their achievements have earned them national or international prominence. Members of this group include actor Hugh Jackman, author Anna Funder, human rights activist Senator Sekai Holland, as well as the 2014 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence winner, Dr Simon Walsh. See more alumni.uts.edu.au/luminaries Young Alumni Award Recognises outstanding achievement by a graduate aged 35 years and younger, from any faculty, within their chosen field. Alumni Community Award Recognises an outstanding contribution to the community at a local, national and/or international level, by a graduate from any faculty. Candidates should demonstrate high level contribution to the community through professional, charitable, cultural or sporting involvement. International Alumni Award Sponsored by UTS:INSEARCH Recognises outstanding achievement by an alumnus from any faculty, who was enrolled as at international student while attending the University of Technology, Sydney. Candidates can be currently residing either in Australia, or overseas. alumni.uts.edu.au/alumni-awards 2 2015 UTS: Alumni Awards 2014 Eligibility Criteria • • • • • • • • ward recipients must be graduates of UTS or one of our six A antecedent institutions: • Acupuncture Colleges Australia • Balmain Teachers’ College • Kuring-gai College of Advanced Education • New South Wales Institute of Technology • Sydney College of Advanced Education • The School of Design, Sydney College of the Arts Recipients must have demonstrated excellence in their field of endeavour. While Faculty Award nominees need to have graduated with a degree from the nominated faculty, they do not need to be working in the discipline from which they graduated. Self-nominations are not accepted. UTS Luminaries and past UTS Alumni Award recipients are not eligible. Previously nominated alumni who were unsuccessful may be renominated. Nominees for the Young Alumni award must be aged 35 years or under. Nominees for the International Alumni Award must have been enrolled to study as at international student at UTS. They may currently reside either in Australia or overseas. Selection Panel The Selection Panel will particularly look for individuals who have achieved professional excellence, demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation and/ or creativity in their field of endeavour, made outstanding contributions to the community, or show evidence of civic, cultural, charitable or sporting involvement. The Selection Panel is made up of the following UTS representatives: • Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International & Development) • Deputy Director, Alumni & Communications • Director, Marketing & Communications • Activate UTS representative • Previous Alumni Award winner • UTS Luminary Selection Process and Determination of Awards Faculty Awards All nominees for Faculty Awards are considered by the Dean of that Faculty and a shortlist of three candidates is presented to the Selection Panel for final consideration. Community Alumni Award Nominees for this award are considered by the Director of Equity and Diversity and a shortlist of three candidates is presented to the Selection Panel for final consideration. International Alumni Award Nominees for this award are considered by a UTS Young Alumni Award Nominees for this award are considered by the Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice President of Corporate Services and a shortlist of three candidates is presented to the Selection Panel for final consideration. Chancellor’s Award for Excellence The winner of this award is selected by UTS Chancellor Professor Vicki Sara. representative and a shortlist of three candidates is presented to the Selection Panel for final consideration. alumni.uts.edu.au/alumni-awards 3 UTS: Alumni Awards 2015 Nomination Process We seek nominations for alumni who have achieved success in professional, academic or research areas and who have contributed to the community through their work. All nominations must be: Tips for nominations: •Completed and submitted online via the official nomination website, located at: alumni.uts.edu.au/alumni-awards •Include a current CV (no longer than 5 pages). •Submitted by 5pm on Friday 26 June 2015. •Nominations should be prepared with attention to detail, ensuring that all relevant information is included. •Nominators should include information and examples as to why the nominee is exceptional. •When outlining the involvement of a nominee in a particular project, nominators should describe the impact the nominee had. Make sure to include relevant details which demonstrate excellence on the part of the nominee. •Nominations are now open – make sure you get your nomination in before Friday 26 June!
