This fee includes catering and course materials. PRINCIPAL INSTRUCTOR Laurence Boulle is an academic with considerable practical experience in dispute resolution and has an international reputation in mediation. He worked initially as a legal practitioner and subsequently as an academic at institutions in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, North America and Africa. Laurence also worked as Director of the Mandela Institute in Johannesburg. He is former chair of the National ADR Advisory Council in Australia and of the Mediator Standards Board and is currently LEADR Fellow (2014-15). He chaired the Dispute Resolution Practitioners Accreditation Committee in South Africa and is a conciliator for the World Bank panel on investment disputes. His books on mediation, globalisation and legal topics have been published in many countries. This is a one-day CPD event for seasoned mediators in which Laurence Boulle brings together two decades of teaching and practice, writing and policy advice, for the benefit of experienced mediators and other dispute resolution practitioners. The Masterclass follows a workshop format, including participation and small group work. It is limited to 30 participants. The Masterclass focuses on factors which influence human decisionmaking, with particular reference to insights from cognitive psychology and neuro-science. Through presentations, practice sessions and reflective exercises course participants are provided new insights into their daily work. CERTIFICATION A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded upon completion of the course. CANCELLATION POLICY The topics covered include: Facilitating positional bargaining Dealing with shuttle negotiations Directing communications Managing intensity Enhancing clients’ ability to make decisions By attending the Master class you will: Extend your understanding of the cognitive and social biases which affect clients’ decisionmaking Consider the application of different disciplinary insights in mediation practice Increase your understanding of impasses, high emotion, communication impediments, positional bargaining and final decision-making Reflect on what you currently do well as mediators and what you might do differently in the future Develop take-home techniques for tomorrow’s mediation There is a restriction on numbers at all Dispute Resolution Centre training workshops. Most courses are filled quickly. Registrations are accepted only if and when payment is actually received. The Centre reserves the right to cancel courses where there are insufficient enrolments. A 50% cancellation fee will be applied when participants cancel workshop reservations fewer than 15 business days prior to the beginning of a workshop. If 5 working days or less is given, then no refund will be given. DRC cannot be responsible for nonrefundable travel and accommodation arrangements.
