Position description ASSOCIATE CREATIVE DIRECTOR: VISUAL DESIGN Second Story is a network of design studios that focuses on responsive environments, story-‐ driven experiences, experimentation, and innovation. For more than 20 years, we have conceptualized, designed, and developed projects that educate, immerse, and activate across the cultural and brand space. Our studio is interdisciplinary and intensely collaborative, founded on the desire to make great work through collective authorship. We are seeking an experienced Associate Creative Director (ACD) for our Atlanta studio. ACDs are the creative leads across multiple projects, leading teams by example through development and execution. They cultivate an environment of creativity and collaboration across disciplines and are the standard bearer for visual design, mentoring the visual design team and elevating our studio’s design aesthetic. The ideal candidate will come from a visual design background with strong spatial and compositional skills. They must have established themselves with an outstanding body of work as a Designer/Art Director and must have successfully made the transition from craftsman to creative leader. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: • Manage the day-to-day project activities of creative team members (experience design, visual design, animation, copy, industrial design, etc.). • Collaborate with Project Managers and Technical Leads to oversee multiple projects from inception to completion (planning projects, reviewing designs and other deliverables). • Work with the Creative Director to ensure the quality of all creative deliverables throughout the project. • Promote a culture of creative innovation and aesthetic excellence throughout the studio. • Lead creative presentations to clients. • Lead creative for pitches and new business responses. THE CANDIDATE MUST: • Be intrinsically motivated by the adventure of breaking boundaries to create something new and different. • Be a true collaborator with a positive disposition, a solution-based attitude, and the ability to work with people with diverse skills, backgrounds, and beliefs. • Excel in design but have an interest in and appreciation for other creative domains (experience design, writing, animation, industrial design, etc.). • Stay informed about design trends but push past them in a thoughtful and original way. • Exhibit true craftsmanship and design excellence, understanding the gap between good and great work and consistently working to cross it. • Take an approach that balances both aesthetic form and technical function, always grounded by real human insights. • Be adept at ideation and building on the ideas of others, valuing the evolution of design concepts by an interdisciplinary team. • Be authentic and honest with a unique worldview. S K I L L S : • A masterful command of the craft of design, consistently achieving compelling aesthetic solutions. • A strong knowledge of the design process in order to guide complex projects from concept to completion. • Expert proficiency in relevant design programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, InDesign, etc.). • The ability to generate and refine ideas into thoughtful, provocative concepts. • The ability to clearly articulate ideas to the client and the team both verbally and in writing. • The capacity to provide clear feedback to all disciplines and to translate feedback from a Creative Director, clients, and the team into action. • The ability to craft stories—be they written, visual, or verbal—and present with passion to sell the work through in new business situations and client creative reviews. • Strong leadership and people management skills (with both clients and internal teams). • A proven ability to nurture and grow the skills of more junior designers. Second Story / Part of SapientNitro / ©2014 Sapient Corporation, Confidential 2 E X P E R I E N C E : • 8+ years professional experience in interactive & visual design • 1+ years experience managing and leading creative project teams • Graphic Design/Interactive Design (or related) professional degree • Outstanding portfolio • Passion for design, technology, and art • Experience with projects that contain physical components is not required but preferred.
