Long Island News WHO CAN VOTE At an LIV Election or Special Meeting? Every lot gets one vote, but who is eligible to cast that vote? If your Lot in LIV is owned by an individual, then that person can vote. If owned jointly by a husband & wife, then either can vote, but only one vote between them. If your lot is owned any other way, by more than one person, or a trust or corporation then the person who can vote must be designated as the voting owner. There is a form called “Designation of Voting Owner” that must be filled out by the ownership & filed with the Village at the Welcome Center. Once filed it stays valid for every election unless ownership changes or a new form is filed. Phil Parkinson UPCOMING LIV NEWS • The outcome of the Cowen Settlement scheduled for January 23rd will be sent in an E-mail Newsflash, put on the website, and will appear in the March Newsletter. • A list of Candidates running for the 2016 BOD will be Emailed in a Newsflash, put on the website, and appear in the March Newsletter. • News from the January BOD meeting will be E-mailed in a Newsflash, put on the website, & appear in the March newsletter. Feb. 2016 Volume 93 March 5th Annual Meeting & Election IMPORTANT DETAILS! The 2016 Board Election will be quite the undertaking this year. You will be responsible for choosing seven Board Members. Here are important dates and meetings for you to mark on your calendar. Packet Hand-out at the Welcome Center Saturday, February 6 (Noon - 3 pm) & Sunday, February 7 (8 a.m.- Noon) On January 29th the Candidate application process will be closed. Your Election Committee, headed by Vita Sherry, will get the resumes and voting documents ready for the “Packet Hand Out” (see above). We will have the packets at the Welcome Center, please bring a photo I.D. with you. Last year’s hand out reached over 200 Owners. Since the Village has now welcomed back so many “Winter Owners” we would love to see the number double this year. Of course, this participation not only gives you time to study the candidate’s resumes it also saves the Village a substantial amount in postage costs. All packets not picked up will be mailed Feb. 9th so keep your eye open for it and complete the necessary documents. We must receive your proxy or early voting ballot (notarized or with proper picture ID) before the March 5th, Annual Meeting. Meet the Candidate Forum at the Rec Hall Sunday, February 21st - Noon to 2:00 .p.m. Whether you attend Church, golf, go to breakfast or just sleep a little later on Sunday morning, please make it a point to join us for coffee and cookies at Noon at the Rec. Center for a casual meet and greet with all the Board Candidates. It’s your chance to look them in the eye, ask your own pertinent questions and learn a little more than what a resume can reveal. Remember you’ll have to narrow the field down to seven candidates to fill all the Board positions, it’s a ‘bring your notebook’, kind of meeting. What a challenge! We also encourage Candidates to attend as many meetings and activities as possible so that the Owners of LIV have an opportunity to get to know you and your views on Village issues. ELECTION DAY! Registration 8 a.m. to noon 2016 Annual Meeting 1:00 at the Rec Hall The Annual Meeting starts with registration in the Arts & Crafts Room from 8 to Noon. Bring a picture I.D. and any documents you are filing. You may vote immediately upon receipt of your Ballot or you can take your Ballot home and vote at the 1:00 p.m. Annual Meeting. Aramark will present their yearly report at this meeting. Your Committee cannot stress enough how important it is that you vote. If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to ask anyone on the Board or Election Committee for help. WE NEED A QUORUM OR THE WHOLE PROCESS HAS TO BE EXTENDED! 2 LIV Travelgoers Presents::: COLORS of NEW ENGLAND!!! I’m really not sure where the time is going. Need to slow that clock down a bit, don’t you think? Guess it is what it is, so let’s just move on to fun February! Monday, Feb 1 - Let’s start out “Day One” with a Cocktail Party with Kenny Hess from 4 - 6 p.m. Kenny Hess has been apart of the music world since he was old enough to talk. Kenny started out playing for friends & family around the kitchen table, and soon he was sharing concert stages with the likes of Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, Merle Haggard, TanyaTucker, Brooks & Dunn and many more. Bring your own “stuff” and wear your dancing shoes ($6.00 at the door) Saturday, Feb 6 - Put on those beads and come to the Mardi Gras Dance with Steven May from 6 - 9 p.m. Steven entertained at our Oscar Party Dance and got huge thumbs up from everyone! This is ALWAYS a fun one so get signed up for your tables! Monday, Feb 15 - A special Musical Show with Jason Whorlow at 7 p.m. Jason has been entertaining venues and dance halls all over the Midwest with his hilarious, spontaneous antics and mesmerizing piano skills. Jason’s repertoire ranges from all decades to all styles of music. He’ll show his diversity by performing a beautiful rendition of Floyd Cramer and an upbeat performance of Jerry Lee Lewis. Jason loves to feature individuals from the crowd for their birthday or anniversary celebrations with interactive skits and sing-a-longs on stage. Jason is very up-to-date on today’s hits as well as classically trained. This is a show you will be talking about for a long time! Don’t miss out on this one of a kind opportunity. ($6.00 at the door) Saturday, Feb 20 - Time to think back to those “good old days” (were you a wild child???) at the Hippie Party Dance with Gilbert from 6 - 9 p.m. Beads and tie dye???? Monday, Feb 29 - Okay, you have to go to this one since it won’t happen again for another 4 years - The LEAP YEAR Cocktail Party with Jeff Crocker & Allen Stuart from 4 - 6 p.m. We have been given one extra day to party this year, so let’s not waste it! ($5.00 at the door) We have a special request for all of you - PLEASE CONSIDER ATTENDING THE SPECIAL MUSICAL SHOWS we have scheduled. We have really really good entertainment coming to Long Island Village and would really like to see that Rec Hall filled to the brim! The more hands clapping the better the show gets, right??? Until next time, Pat Diebold Just One of Many D & E Worker-Bees A NOTE FROM THE “VONS” BURCLOVER Eric and Kathie Von Schweinitz, after nearly twenty-five years living here in LIV, have now successfully relocated to Northern California. They want to send a sincere THANK YOU to all of their friends who attended the Farewell Party, and others who just stopped by their Sea Cottage to have a drink, reminisce and wish them well. BURCLOVER is the commonly used name for a prickly invasive clover called California Burclover (medicago polymorpha). Every year at this time our village is slowly overtaken by this tiny clover looking plant with yellow flowers that turn into prickly spiral shaped seed pods (much like a goat head) that stick to your skin, shoes, and your pet’s paws & fur. LIV owners are encouraged to treat this clover in their own yards to help keep it from spreading. You might try Scotts Turf Builder Bonus S Southern Weed and Feed or something similar to combat this menace. Kathie also appreciated the flood of birthday cards she received in early December just as they were getting settled. They would love to hear from friends in the Village, so a note, card or call would definitely be in order. Their new address is: 12114 Ponderosa St. Hornbrook, CA 96044 Phone #: 530-475-3445 Jennie McBride Long Island News 4 Euchre December we welcomed a few more of our euchre players and enjoyed our annual Christmas party. Had a great dinner of turkey provided by those euchres and the rest of a gourmet meal by you, the best cooks in the Village. Thanks to all. We give a special BIG thank you to Jackie and Phil Rogge for preparing the turkey. It was fantastic and your magic kept it moist and wonderful. High scores for the month of December: Dec. The GM, FM and Border Patrol were informed and Border Patrol picked the men up. 12/03/15 – The former renter from Lot 810 wanted to come in to see the owner of Lot 70 & pick up a golf cart. He was informed the owner of Lot 70 would have to call him in. He then called a friend on Lot 692 to get him in. He was eventually picked up in the parking lot & later left in a golf cart. 12/03/15 – Security was called about people across Canal H asking for food & water. Security called 911 and the Sheriff, the Constable, two Border Patrol trucks and a helicopter arrived. 6 people and 250 pounds of marijuana were picked up by Border Patrol across Canal H. 12/05/15 – The owner of SC 12 reported a water leak across the canal from his property. Security responded to Lot 862 and found a small pipe behind the house leaking, turned off the water, and reported it to maintenance. 12/07/15 – The owner of Lot 781 reported a golf cart belonging to Security had been parked in the Activity Center parking lot for over 45 minutes. The GM was called & the situation was handled. 12/07/15 – The owner of SC 40 reported to Security that someone had fallen in the Rec. Hall. The owner of Lot 171 was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Brownsville. 12/08/15 – Security was notified that the owner of Lot 646 had hit a light post behind the “You Are Now Entering Long Island Village” sign. The owner said that a palm tree was being trimmed and she swerved to avoid palm fronds hitting her car and hit the sign. 12/13/15 – The owner of Lot 500 reported to Security that someone from Lot 501 was digging on his property. It turned out that the owner of Lot 501 was digging to put in a french drain. An argument ensued. Both parties agreed that the owner of Lot 501 could continue only after he got a building permit. 12/14/15 – The owner of 684 reported to Security that the door on Lot 687 was standing open. Security responded and found a pest control paper on the floor. The owner was notified through her sister who lives nearby. 12/14/15 – An employee notified Security about a window open on Lot 279. The owner was notified and was aware of the situation. Security took pictures. 12/24/15 – The owner of Lot 775 reported his sprinkler had been running for over 30 minutes and wouldn’t shut off. When Security responded the owner had disconnected the wires & shut the valve off but the sprinkler continued to run. The FM was called and explained how to shut it off. The problem was reported to Maintenance. 12/29/15 – The owner of Lot 317 accidently knocked over a pole and broke a pot on Lot 316. An attempt was made to contact the owner of Lot 316. 12/30/15 – An unknown man reported a woman had fallen in the laundromat, apparently slipping on a wet floor. Both parties were gone before a report could be made. 12/30/15 – The owner of SC 18 asked Security to ask the owner of SC 36 to stop knocking on their door. The owner of SC 36 was stopped in the street and asked to stop knocking on the door at SC 12.
