This Month @ WOW...
Kids Hope
Greetings! Another new year of school is upon us and I am
looking for some new Kids Hope USA volunteers. It’s one
hour a week during school hours. I am very excited about
this year, which will be my 3rd year with my student. Last
year I taught him how to tie his shoes and many other
things, but it’s really just about being with them for an hour.
It makes these kids feel so special. Please consider being a
mentor... contact Scott Trembley at 810.597.1725.
Venturing....yes, it is coming!
If you are age 14-21, watch for an announcement of an
outing to introduce you to what venturing is all about!
Or, if you are an adult and are interested in being a part of
the Venture Crew leadership team, please come to JP’s on
September 7 at 8:30AM. Please contact Paul Maas at
616.836.7763 or lifelinecpr.paulmaas@gmail.com.
Night of Worship
Hold the date! On Friday, September 20 at 7PM, WOW and
Lakeshore Vineyard will be seeking God together in worship
here at the Holland Event Center.
Engage
Engage is a series of seminars designed to help Christians
understand Muslims, and learn how to face the challenge of
effectively communicating the gospel to them. The course
meets Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:45PM at Crossroads
Bible Church in Grand Rapids, 9/17-11/19. The cost is $95.
Some scholarship help is available (ask Jeff Mastin
315.373.9716). For more info, email byandell@me.com or
see engagingislam.org/engaging_islam_course.

Scouting News
Popcorn sales are coming! Plan ahead to support our
scouts by purchasing some microwave or caramel corn
during the month of October. This helps our scouts
pay for scouting activites: camp outs, summer camp,
gear, etc. Also, 3 more of our leaders are taking the
Woodbadge leadership training. This means there are
wonderful things in store for our scouts this year! One
of our leaders is preparing to become a part of the
Gerald R Ford Naval Carrier christening in November
and many of our scouts will be there for this once in a
lifetime event! If you would like to help with funding a
scout, please contact Jill Ten Brink at 616.240.8062.
Facility Update
As the Dutch facade has come down, it’s time for a new
look and new life at the Holland Event Center. September
will feature Celebrations (Dance Parties, Weddings,
Birthday Parties) along with our fall Mom2Mom sale.
If you are looking to earn some extra cash and see our
Community of Hope in action, talk to Paul Trembley
about working one of these upcoming events
(616.836.9498).

Fall message emphasis: The Good and Beautiful Community
This fall we will be doing a message series based on the third book in a series
by James Bryan Smith, titled The Good and Beautiful Community. He explores
how apprentices of Jesus are “constantly men and women in whom Christ dwells.
There are myriad opportunities for us to impact the world in which we live.” Our
series will be emphasized in our small groups and Two’s & Three’s accountability
meetings.
Many times we’ve gotten it wrong, tending to emphasize personal faith over
social justice or viceversa. This book shows how to bring spiritual formation and
community engagement together. It also offers spiritual practices that help root
new, true narratives about God into our souls. We long to live in authentic ways
as a Good and Beautiful Community of Christfollowers, shining the light of the
Spirit into every relationship. P
lease pray that this upcoming series will impact us for the
kingdom! Please pray that our 2’s and 3’s and small groups will explore together, from their
hearts what it is to be the Good and Beautiful Community of God.
