BlueLight®
FAST, COLD DISINFECTION
OF PACKAGING MATERIALS
WITHOUT THE USE OF CHEMICALS
UV light has a powerful germicidal effect.
Micro-organisms such as viruses, bacteria, yeasts and fungi are killed in seconds
without any need for chemicals. At a
sufficiently high intensity, UV disinfection
is a reliable, simple and fast method and
is used as a continuous process in
Food Packaging machinery.
Naturally clean
The features of BlueLight
UV Cassettes
■ Heraeus has developed the ”Gold Spot“
Lamp especially for the disinfection of
packaging. The UV intensity required for
a safe germicidal effect is achieved with a
cold UV radiation.
■ The Fraunhofer-Institute for Food Technology and Packaging in Munich investigated the disinfection effect at our
request. One result: 99.95 % of Bacillus
Subtilis spores killed in 2.2 seconds. The
report (6/94) is available on request.
■ The reflector design ensures a uniform
irradiation and disinfection of the
illuminated surface.
■ The disinfection effect is easy to check.
It is measured, at regular intervals, with
the Disinfection Control Monitor. The
instrument itself is calibrated at 2 yearly
intervals at the Heraeus Laboratories.
■ The Heraeus UV Cassettes with the
Disinfection Control Monitor are suitable
for DIN/ISO 9000 registered Quality
Assurance Systems.
■ The compact construction allows easy
retro-fitting to existing packaging equipment. UV Cassettes can be arranged in
parallel for higher UV doses.
■ The useful life of the Heraeus ”Gold
Spot“ Lamp is 4000 hours (6 months)
for a reduction in output power of < 40 %.
They are easy to replace, and, with a
power consumption of ca. 300 watts,
running costs are low.

Protective measures must be taken
with UV radiation. UV radiation can
be shielded with glass or absorbing
plastic so that the safety of personnel
can be assured.
B
BlueLight UV Modules consist of the UV
Cassette, the power supply and the air inlet
and outlet fans. BlueLight UV Cassettes use
two ”Gold Spot“ Lamps with high germicidal
efficiency. They are built into a stainless steel
housing with quartz windows and protected
against water.
Each cassette is air-cooled. This air is filtered
and then blown by means of a fan through
tubes into the cassette and then taken away
likewise. The electrical supply for the lamps
is from a separate power supply unit.
Products as supplied may differ from the illustrations and descriptions in this brochure.
