John Putzer last week. He asked me to greet you and wish you well. He misses the parish but is doing fine. He has had the opportunity to travel a bit on weekends. During the week he is learning Italian. Several people have told him he speaks the language well for someone who has been studying Italian for only a month. Fr. Putzer assures you of his prayers and asks you to remember him in prayer. Fr. John can be reached through his e-mail johnputzer@gmail.com or his blog at: http://calledconseacratedsent.wordpress.com/. Remember the Mega Rummage Sale is this week Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There sure are lots and lots of treasures. Come see for yourself. Our thanks to all who have spent hours and hours and hours this summer getting ready for the sale. We sure appreciate you!! You will notice an art quilt on the stairs to the left (entering the Columbus Street doors) going to the choir loft. This was created by Kent Williams, a nationally recognized quilt artist from Madison. It is entitled: “Lift Your Voices.” Mr. Williams writes the following: “I was delighted to be asked to create a work of art for the stairway leading to the choir loft of your beautiful church. I myself once sang in a church choir, and I remember that walk up the stairs—the sense that you were moving from the physical to the spiritual plane, God shedding His grace on thee. Music plays such a powerful role in our spiritual lives, and I wanted to salute the men and women who bring it to your congregation with a work that will perhaps give them a lift as they make their way up the stairs. With thousands of pieces of fabric sewn together to form 12 rectangular panels, “Lift Your Voices” is meant to evoke piano keyboards, organ pipes, musical notes—all the elements that go into producing a rich, harmonious sound. The individual panels can be thought of as voices or instruments, the musical line rising and falling (but mostly rising) across the breadth of the wall. I wanted each voice to come through loud and clear—a potential soloist. But as every choir member knows, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” Our gratitude to Mr. Williams for sharing his wonderful talent with our parish. Our deep appreciation to Melanie and Ed McManus and family for this most special gift to our parish. God bless, Msgr. Duane. Come Pray the Rosary All are invited to pray the Rosary in Church every weekday Monday-Friday at 6:10 a.m. prior to the 6:30 a.m. Mass if Mass is celebrated. Our prayers and sympathy to the family of Neil Anderson. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. LUKE HOUSE - Our next evening to serve at Luke House is Tuesday, August 7, 2012, from 5:00-7:00 pm. The sign-up sheet for donations of food and workers is posted in the narthex of the Church. We always need at least 14 casserole donations and 14 or more volunteers to help serve. Please have your donation at the Parish Center by 3:00 pm. If you have any questions, please call Jane at 837-5495 or Debbie at 516-8393. Thank you. We’d like to show our appreciation to the Rummage Sale volunteers by providing them with lunch during the sale dates of Thursday, Friday and Saturday, August 9th, 10th and 11th. Can you donate a casserole, cold cuts, a salad or dessert? It’s important that you call and let us know what you’ll be bringing, so we’ll know that we have enough of everything. Items can be dropped off at the Parish Center by 9 a.m. on Thursday, August 9th. Call Sharon at the Parish Center, 837-7381, to sign up. Thanks! Calling Young Singers! If you are a student in grades 3-8, enjoy singing, and are looking for a good way to serve God and your parish, please consider joining the Grace Notes choir. The choir rehearses on Thursday afternoons from 2-3:30 p.m. during the school year. Grace Notes sings at 9 a.m. Mass about once a month, in addition to three School Masses, a Christmas concert, and a spring concert. 2013 is our sesquicentennial year (150th anniversary), and we would like to have a strong, enthusiastic choir for this special year! Rehearsals begin September 13th, in the choir loft; please enter the church on the Vine Street side (where the canopy is). For more information please call Carol Kanne at 849-8731. WHAT GOES UP, MUST COME DOWN ...and so it is with the Rummage Sale. On Monday, August 13th, we’ll need help packing away the Rummage Sale for another year. You can come at 8 a.m. for boxing and bagging the leftovers or at 6 p.m. to help put away tables, clothes rack, etc. We could also use help on Tuesday, August 14th at 9 a.m. to help load the St. Vincent DePaul truck that will cart away the last of the 2012 Rummage Sale! St. Vincent’s has promised to be here between 9 and 9:30. No one to call; just show up and be ready to work. 3 SCHEDULES & EVENTS This Week at Sacred Hearts Tuesday, August 7 8:15 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters Meeting Thursday, August 9 7:00 p.m. Charismatic Prayer Group (St. Isidore Rm) 7:00 p.m. St. Vincent de Paul Meeting (Parish Ctr.) 7:30 p.m. Scripture Reflections (Parish Center) Friday, August 10 7:00 a.m. Men’s Bible Study (St. Isidore Rm) Saturday, August 11 7:15 a.m. Men’s Bible Sharing (St. Isidore Rm) Have you offered a helping hand to the Fall Festival yet?
