Multidisciplinary Chronic Pain Centre
Multidisciplinary Chronic Pain Centre The consultation of Pain Management Dr is intended for patients who have persistent pain for more than 3 months, despite a diagnostic assessment (complementary examinations, expert opinion) well conducted and whose pain insufficiently responds to treatment. Chronic pain has repercussions at the psychological level, the physical condition and the relationships with the environment (social, family and professional) which, when they are significant, require a global, bio psychosocial approach and Pain Management Specialist. In this case, the use of a multidisciplinary pain team can help the patient to participate actively in improving their quality of life. Collaboration with treating physicians and specialists The follow-up within the chronic pain consultation does not mean in any case a break with the follow-up by the Interventional Pain Specialist and referring medical specialist. On the contrary, their collaboration is indispensable. This is why we ask the referring doctor to send us the relevant information before the first consultation. Conversely, we will keep it informed by written reports of the multidisciplinary assessment and the salient elements of evolution. Multidisciplinary team of chronic pain The team is made up of Chronic Pain Specialists (anesthetists, specialists in physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurologist, psychiatrist) and paramedics (cognitive-behavioural psychologists, physiotherapists, a nurse, a social worker and a hospital pharmacist with a clinical orientation). All of these workers have special training in pain. Procedure Making appointments: By phone. During the first appointment, the secretariat will give you two forms: 1 form that you must complete and 1 form to be completed by the referring doctor. For the first consultation, please have these forms duly completed, as well as a copy of the latest examinations, copies of protocols, and a list of your current and previous medications (dosage, daily frequency, desired and undesirable effects). The nurse makes an initial assessment with you. The medical specialist will determine the appointments later (physiotherapist, psychologist ...). When the overall assessment is completed, a synthesis meeting of the multidisciplinary team determines the therapeutic objectives taking into account the patient's motivation to become actively involved. A full report is then sent to your doctor and specialist. Initial assessment includes: A multidimensional analysis of the medical, psychological, functional and social pain by the Comprehensive Pain Specialist, depending on each particular situation, one or more of these dimensions will be deepened by the different disciplines. An analysis of the demand and expectations of the patient. Subsequent support Therapeutic projects include the adaptation of analgesic pharmacological treatment, assistance with pain management (therapeutic education, management of affective, cognitive and behavioral aspects, and functional rehabilitation in individuals or groups), non-pharmacological treatments and technical acts. Pain specialist Physicians holding the Doctor for Shoulder Pain designation come from a variety of disciplines, including general internal medicine, anaesthesiology, surgery, neurosurgery, physical medicine, oncology, orthopaedics and rheumatology. Regardless of their specialty, Pain specialists treat and accompany their patients as part of a global follow-up and in accordance with research advances. Holders of this title are specialized in identifying the different mechanisms and causes of pain. They know the impact of pain on the body and the psyche, and apply a complete therapeutic concept.
