PHILIPPINES SO SPECIAL?
 It ranks 3rd (after USA and UK) as one
of the largest English-speaking nations
in the world.
 The largest legal tender note in the
world was produced in the Philippines.
It is the 100,000 peso bill which
measures 8.5” x 14”. Only 1,000
copies were produced.
 Quezon City was originally the capital
of the Philippines, not Manila.
 It is home to the exotic cockatoo bird,
an endangered species that can live
up to 50 years.
 The Philippine Bank of Communication is the tallest in Manila at 850 feet
high.

 It is the largest producer of coconuts
in the world.
 By count, there are more men than
women - but the women live longer.
 The city of Marikina produced the
largest shoe in the world. It is 5.5
meters long and 30 people can fit
inside it.
 Philippines Airlines was the first in
Asia to take to the skies in 1941.
 Mohammed Ali’s nickname is “Thrilla
in Manila” after competing there for
the heavyweight championship in
boxing against Joe Frazier in 1975.
here are many things that make the breathtaking country of the
Philippines attractive. Billowy white clouds that float against
sapphire skies, the velvety Chocolate Hills of Cebu or the Rice
Terraces of Luzon. But nothing can compare to the exquisite city
of Manila where the heart of the Philippines
begins.
What is Manila? It is a tender touch to
the ear and a chaotic jab of unexpected intrigue
to the senses. On the perimeters are spongy
green rice fields that form plush steps skipping
down cultivated hillsides and burly mountains
providing a solid backdrop to the lively city
that quivers at its feet. The din of Metro Manila echoes well into the evening with the noise
of activity and businesses that never seem to
sleep. Wrap it all up in dense heat that
drenches the skin with moist humidity and you
have the heart of the Philippines.
As an active, modern city with glass
skyscrapers bathed in contemporary settings, it
is also enveloped in traditional cultures;
perhaps a bit rough-around-the edges at times,
but sophisticated and attractive as well.

What makes OLED displays so special?
Slim Design - Unlike traditional LCD displays,
OLED displays do not require backlighting. In
addition, the physical structure of OLED displays
requires less material. These factors make OLED
displays much thinner and lower-profile than their
LCD counterparts.
Ferrari-Like Speed - With response times of
less than .01ms, each pixel on an OLED display
can be turned on and off much faster than a LCD
pane, making images appear brighter and crisper.
This makes OLED displays the perfect solution for
multimedia devices requiring no image lag.
True Color - OLED displays have a wide
ranging color gamut that does not change, even in
extreme temperature conditions of -40 degrees C
to +80 degrees C.
Super-Wide Viewing
Angle - Since every pixel
is lit independently, that
light can be seen from offaxis viewing angles easily
and accurately. As a result,
you can expect perfect
viewing angles at 170
degrees.

Manila reigns as capital of the Philippines and home to
almost two million people. Located on the eastern shores of
Manila Bay, an additional 20 million people make up the Metro
Manila area, also known as the Pearl of the Orient. It is ranked
as one of the most densely populated cities in the world on an
area only 38.55 square kilometers (less than 24 miles) in size.
Cavernous shopping malls, designer boutiques, and manufacturing businesses keep the city alive during the day. In the
evening it morphs into palpable nightlife within polished,
glittery districts.
The Philippines is the only English-speaking country in
Asia. It is an indicator of its diversity where many languages
are spoken with a successful blend of cultures and traditions.
The most popular language is Tagalog (a form of Filipino),
while English is the language most widely used in education
and business in the Metro Manila region. Spanish is mandatory
in curriculums of Philippine universities and colleges.
Architecture is a reflection of Manila's cosmopolitan atmosphere and cultural diversity, ranging from the lowly shanty
to the regal edifice. National landmarks tucked into neighborhoods of frothy mansions and historical wealth are scattered
throughout Manila. Stone houses and grassy courtyards speak
of the nineteenth century Spanish influence.

What exactly is an OLED display, and how does
it work?
OLED’s basic structure consists of
organic materials positioned between the cathode and the anode,
which is composed of electric
conductive transparent Indium Tin
Oxide (ITO). The organic materials
compose a multi-layered thin film,
which includes the Hole Transporting Layer (HTL), Emission Layer
(EML) and the Electron Transporting Layer (ETL).
By applying the appropriate electric voltage, holes
and electrons are injected into the EML from the
anode and the cathode, respectively. The holes and
electrons combine inside the EML to form
excitons, after which
electroluminescence
occurs. The transfer
material, emission layer
material and choice of
electrode are the key
factors that determine
the quality of OLED
components.

anila's economy as a whole (including the
metropolitan area) is varied. It is supported
with an excellent protected harbor which
serves as the nation's chief seaport. It is also
a strong business competitor in the world of manufactured
goods including chemicals, textiles, clothing, and electronic
products. Gaping shopping malls dot the city and they are a
great draw to tourists and residents alike.
Most striking to the visiting traveler is the ambiance
of Manila. The overall pleasant atmosphere in this city may
be directly linked to the gracious attitudes they bestow upon
one another. Filipinos thrive on interpersonal relationships.
Family values are very important and are the center of their
social structure. It is common to include honorary members
such as godparents, sponsors, and close family friends in
their solid family base. These strong ties sometimes take
them into the workplace. In an attractive move, many companies tout bargaining agreements offering preferential
hiring of family members. Business etiquette is similar to
the general acts of kindness and concern
associated
with the Filipino culture. Consideration toward people in
business relationships speaks great respect and honor to all
parties.
The city of Manila is attractive to the eyes, appealing to
the tourist, and a tribute to its citizens. This is where commerce is an investment and tradition is honorable, mixed
with an eclectic blend of people awash in the warmth of
tropical breezes and wrapped in cultural sophistication.

100 years ago: In the year 1910,
The Boy Scouts of America became incorporated and Angel Island in San Francisco Bay became the immigration center for
Asians entering the United States. The population
was 92 million and the life expectancy of a man
was 48 years versus the woman at 52 years.
Unemployment rose to 2.15 million. It cost 32
cents for a gallon of milk.
50 years ago: In 1960 minimum wage was $1 an
hour, a teacher’s salary was $5,174 a year, and
life expectancy for men was 67; for women it was
73. This was the age of youth, when baby boomers became teenagers and adults. The population grew to 177.8 million. Elvis returned to the
music scene after being drafted into in the army.
30 years ago: Minimum wage rose to
$3.10 and the population grew to
226.54 million. Video games, talk
shows, and aerobics were dominant.
The US constitution celebrated its 200th birthday.
Today, this country has a population in excess of
308 million. Life expectancy is 75 for men and
83 for women. We still enjoy the same (if not
more) freedoms we did a century ago. As George
Bernard Shaw once said, “Liberty is a breath of
life to nations.” I encourage you to make July
2010 a month to celebrate the land of the Free
and the home of the Brave . . . Happy Birthday,
America!
