NEWSLET TER OF THE RANELAGH CLUB (ESTABLISHED 1926)
#88 OCTOBER 2015
WHAT’S ON
SPRING/SUMMER 2015–16
From the
President
Here comes Summer
– in this, the Ranelagh
Club’s 90th year.
What a great time
of year to be active.
There are many things
you can plan for and
enjoy at the club in
the months ahead.
The enclosed calendar of events should
give you a few ideas. You can tear it off and
keep it handy. Our summer activities: sailing,
tennis, and the clubhouse offerings are all
ramping-up now for the warmer months.
Thank you to all members and guests who
have spent time at the club recently. We are
seeing a significant increase in members’ use
of our facilities and event attendance, which
is fun, hugely appreciated, and reflects the
hard work and efforts of many people.
We are keen for all members to get as much
out of their memberships as possible. Our
events aim to offer something for everyone
and are aligned with our family values.
There’s significant maintenance happening
around the club with new blinds on the deck,
upgrades in the kitchen and refurbishment
of the motor boat launch system. Members
will also see a few new toys appearing soon.
We’re constantly adding and refurbishing. It’s
our aim that members view the club as their
go-to place this summer.
Thank you to all members who have renewed
their membership. The new electronic sign up
worked well for many and will be improved
for next year.
Currently we have 604 memberships – a
number larger than this time in both 2014
and 2013 which is very pleasing. We are
always seeking new members so its never
too late to sign-up and enjoy our community.
On behalf of the committee, l’d like to thank
all members who took the time to vote or
attended the Ranelagh Club’s AGM. Thanks
also to those of you who let us know that you
couldn’t attend. It’s vital for the club that you
help and assist us with the AGM process. After
all, it’s your club, and we need your input to
steer it in the right direction.
AGM voting numbers were considerably up on
last year. Healthy discussion occurred on the
night and all items proposed were approved
by a big majority. Full details and the AGM
minutes are available on the club’s website.
Thank you to those members who stood for
election to serve on the club’s committee.
It’s often a demanding and often thankless
task. But without these skilled and dedicated
volunteer Directors our club would struggle
to function.
I congratulate our new Director, Mark Dillion
on his election to the committee and look
forward to working with him over the coming
months. Mark brings some great skills to the
table and we’re thrilled that he has put his
hand up to be involved.
I hope every one of you enjoys this summer
at the Ranelagh Club. Take advantage of
what’s on offer. Bring your family and friends
down for a meal. Remember to provide the
caterers, the office and committee members
with any ideas or feedback. It’s our club and
a reflection of our community.

Beach boxes
ready for summer
The Ranelagh Club owns three beach
boxes (numbers 81, 88 and 72) down
on Ranelagh Beach. They have been
spruced-up and two of them are now
ready for summer. The third (#72) is
currently storing kayaks, but will be
ready for members to use before the
end of the year.
The key you were given with your
membership opens the beach boxes and
gives you access to the gas bottles for
the BBQ. There is no need to book the
boxes, just head to the beach and share
the facilities with other members.
Beach box #81 is a double-sized box
equipped with water, power and gas for
the BBQ. Box #88 is a single box and has
gas and BBQ equipment.
They’re a great place to retreat from the
sun or to prepare lunch for the family.
Come down and take advantage of our
wonderful beach boxes this summer.

NIGHT
In the clubhouse
It’s been a busy time
in the clubhouse with
upgrades inside, new
blinds going up on
the deck and much
more planned in the
coming months.
Our new caterers,
Oceanview, are
enthusiastic partners
and we’re receiving
positive feedback from members and guests
on the quality of the menu and atmosphere.
A big thank-you to Dave, Tobey and Teresa for
all their great work.
We’ve been working hard behind the scenes
to plan a variety of events that appeal to all
our members. We’ve recently hosted some
great entertainers including The Shuffle
Club, Legends Entertainer Mark Andrew
and most recently The Baker Boys Band at
the President’s Ball. Planning is underway
for some return visits from these member
favourites. There have also been some new
member events including the Table Tennis
Tournament, Father’s Day Tennis Tournament
and our first School Holiday Program, all
of which were a great success.
With the weather warming up we’re seeing
the deck filling up as members take the
opportunity to sip a drink and take in the
fabulous view. This is surely one of the best
spots on the Mornington Peninsula, so
I encourage you to come and enjoy it.
Spring is in the air which means Spring
Carnival. This year we’re happy to host a
fun Melbourne Cup day for all the family
(Ranelagh on the Rails) and a beautiful Oaks
Day Lunch where our members and their
guests can get into the spirit on ‘Ladies Day’.
Come and visit the clubhouse soon – but
please book a table as the warm weather
means it is getting busy.
