ACADEMIC
SCHOLARSHIP
Heartiest congratulations to the three students who received scholarship cheques from The Principal and Vice
Principal of DPS STS School on the basis of their outstanding IGCSE results which were 7 A stars and above. The three

OUTSTANDING CAMBRIDGE LEARNER AWARD CEREMONY
Students from DPS STS School who have performed exceptionally in the IGCSE Board were awarded for their excellent
results at the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award Ceremony hosted at the Amari Hotel. Md Wasee Ul Hoque
prevailed with highest marks in Business Studies, Accounting, Physics and English Language II. He also attained First
Place position in the Best Across Eight Cambridge IGCSEs – June 2014. Orgho Aronyo Neogi also attained highest in
the country in Economics, Computer Studies and Add Maths. Alavi Wahid Zaman received highest in English I and Sifat
Bin Quadery attained highest in Mathematics.
CAMBRIDGE AWARD CEREMONY
On Thursday, 27th November 2014, Cambridge International Examination along with British Council had organised an
Award Ceremony to honor the Outstanding students who completed their 10, 11 and 12 Grades. The ceremony was
held at Amari (Hotel) Dhaka at 4.00 pm. Eight students of DPS STS School Dhaka received awards for achieving highest
marks in the country. Md Wasee Ul Hoque received the award for Best Across Eight Cambridge IGCSEs - June 2014 in
Bangladesh. Ms. Madhu Wal, Vice Principal, Ms. Tarana Majid Ahmed, Students Concelor and HOD Commerce, Ms.
Afrin Khan, A Level coordinator, and Mr. Mostafizur Rahman Mridha, Board Exam Coordinator were present at the
Award Giving Ceremony
AN OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT
Khandakar Shameel Murtaz (graduate of DPS STS School, A Level 2013-14 batch), has recently been accepted at The
Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Dhaka University, which is the most prestigious and well reputed business
school in the entire country. He was selected among the top 129 candidates out of more than 6000 candidates who
had appeared for the highly competitive entrance examination. It is also a huge honour, being the first ever DPS STS
School graduate; to become a part of this 47 year old highly esteemed business school.
FIRST TERM REPORT CARD OF PRE PRIMARY
The Pre Primary Section had their Report Card Distribution Day on the 22nd of November. It was held between 9.30
a.m. and 12.30 p.m.in the respective classrooms. Parents came in to collect the report cards according to their
schedule and were informed about the social and academic progress of their wards. Teachers discussed the strengths
and weaknesses of each child in detail. The Pre K.G. children got to take home some of their work sheets along with
the report cards.
The soft boards in the classrooms and around the play area along with the corridors were decorated nicely with bright
and colorful hand paintings and crafts done by the children.
PTM FOR GRADES 11and 12
Grade 11 and 12 Parent Teachers Meeting was held at 2 pm-3 pm on 17 November 2014. The main objective was to
distribute the report cards of cyclic test-1 and inform the parents about their academic performance. They also
discussed about different steps to improve their child's performance.
GRADES 10, 11 AND 12 BEGIN THEIR SCREENING EXAMS
Screening Exams for Grades 10, 11 and 12 will commence from Nov 29th. Students are expected to study well and
perform to their best ability.
SUBJECT SELECTION COUNSELING FOR GRADE 7
A session was held on the 25th of November on ‘Subject Selection.’ The students of Grade 7 were present for this
session. Counselling was done by the Principal, Mr. Harsh Wal, on the appropriate subject and each student’s career
choices. A session on ‘Taking up Commerce as a Stream of Study’ was conducted by Ms. Tarana Majid Ahmed,
Students Counselor and Head of Commerce of DPS STS School. It was a great opportunity for the students to get to
know about the various careers that they could have. The students also learned about the different combinations of
subjects that they could take up for their Board Exams.
1ST TERMINAL EXAMS and GRADE 10 CYCLIC EXAMS
Students of DPS STS School appeared for their first term exams which commenced from 1st November until 12th
November, 2014 and the Grade 10 students appeared for their Cyclic Exams which commenced from 7th November
till 18th November. Report Cards for the First Term Exams were handed over to Parents along with exam scripts on the
22nd of November.
ENGLISH INTER HOUSE QUIZ
On Wednesday, 26th of November, the Inter House English Quiz Competition was held for Grades 7 and 8. The Quiz
for Grades 5 and 6 was conducted the following day on the 27th of November.

The competition was divided into 6 rounds consisting of spellings, synonyms, word meanings and English Literature
etc.
FOR GRADE 5 – 6:
Topaz House were Champions with 105 points
Emerald and Ruby were the 1st Runners Up with
85 points
Sapphire was 2nd runners up with 75 points
FOR GRADES 7-8
Emerald House was in 1st place with 145 points
Topaz House was in 2nd Place with 135 points
Ruby House was in 3rd Place with 120 points
Sapphire House was in 4th Place with 100 points.
MEETINGS AND WORKSHOPS
SESSION ON ‘APPLICATION PROCESS TO FOREIGN UNIVERSITIES’
On 16th November, a session was conducted with Ms Marium Hamid, an Intern at ISD Dhaka. The session was
targeted for the students of Grades 10, 11 and 12. The session was a great opportunity for the board examinees, since
it was packed with a lot of information on the application process to various countries, on Essay Writing, IELTS and
SATs and the ways of getting Financial Scholarships from the Universities of the UK, the USA and Canada. The session
on ‘Application Process to Foreign Universities’ was organized in the Main Hall of DPS STS School by Ms. Tarana Majid
Ahmed, Students Counselor and Head of Commerce. It is firmly believed that this has been of substantial help for the
students.
PARENT TEACHER MEETINGS FOR GRADES 1- 12
PTM for Grade 10 was held on 12th November and PTM for Grades 11 and 12 was held on the 17th of November. PTM
for Grades 1- 9 was held on the 22nd of November where parents were issued report cards along with exam scripts.
YOUTH LEADERSHIP SEMINAR
On November 27th, members from the Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center visited DPS STS School where they met
with the students of Grades 11 and 12. They introduced themselves and informed about their activities. Currently,
BYLC recruits 3 types of students for their volunteer programs. Bengali Medium, English Medium and Madrasa
Medium students work side by side and help the under privileged. Their workshops consist of Presentations, Projects
and Field Work. All the questions were answered by Saifur Rahman (Assistant Project Coordinator) of the Bangladesh
Youth Leadership Center.
SHADOWING PROGRAMME AT ISD
The day long shadowing program was arranged on 20th November, at ISD and attended by twelve teachers from PrePrimary and Primary section of our school. The aim was to learn about their teaching methods and practices by
observing their activities for the whole day.
The daylong programme included---sessions with the head of Pre Primary section Ms. Sandra Rosentreter and Deputy
Head of Primary Ms. Farhana Bari; a tour around the school premise; brief information about the facilities and the
practices of ISD; observation of the class activities; a break for tea; lunch at their cafeteria and last but not least --a
reflection session.
Our teachers could compare the different teaching methods and also gain ample relevant ideas from them for future
application. The Shadowing Programme was surely successful and the credit goes to both ISD and DPS STS school
authorities; teachers and everyone involved. An initiative of this stature is undoubtedly praiseworthy and helpful.
THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH PROGRAMME
Participants and Award Leaders met on the 26th of November in order to review their progress in terms of the Bronze
Award.
TRAININGS
Professional Development Program of the Cambridge University was held on the 17th and 18th of October 2014. The
stage 2 training for the AS and A2 level Economics course held at the Chittagong Grammar School, Gulshan was
attended by Mr. Saqueeb Hossain and Shegufta H. Khan from the Commerce Department.
The two day training program was conducted by the Chief Examiner for AS Level Economics Mr. Terry Cook.
Information regarding changes in the syllabus, question pattern, and teaching techniques were highlighted during the
Session. Clarification for various queries regarding teaching specifications was provided by the Chief Examiner.
Ms. Mahmuda Moly (Chess Teacher) participated in a Fide Trainers’ Seminar organized by NEW DELHI Chess
Association under the auspices of All India Chess Federation, Asian Chess Federation, Fide Trainers Commission and
World Chess Federation on 12th -14th Nov’14. The lecturer was Grand Master Dejan Bojkov from Bulgaria.
She also attended Chess Trainer's Seminar and Exam in Delhi, organized by World Chess Federation (FIDE), Asian
Chess Federation and All India Chess Federation and became a "National Chess Instructor".
Ms. Tanzeela Amin Aureen (Teacher) attended the workshop on ‘Inquiry as a Learning and Teaching Strategy’ on
Saturday, 29th November 2014 at the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Centre, Bashundhara.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
FIRE DRILL CONDUCTED IN SCHOOL AREA ON 27TH NOVEMBER
On Thursday, 27th November, a fire drill was conducted within the School compounds from 9:45 – 10:00 am.
Students from all classes were escorted by the designated teachers and all assembled at the Basketball Court. The
entire building was evacuated in six minutes. Guards were on duty along with Admin personnel in Fire Safety
Uniforms and Extinguishers. After the Drill was over, students were escorted back to their classes for continuation of
classes.
CO CURRICULAR
FIELD TRIP TO TAKA MUSEUM GRADE-1-3
The students of Grades 1-3 went on a field trip to the Taka Museum. Students thoroughly enjoyed the outing and
were able to extract a lot of information about the history, the variations and the designs of currency in the South
Eastern Region of Asia. Students were enchanted by the different colors of the previous currencies and participated in
drawing and coloring activities.
STUDY TOUR TO FAMILY NEEDS
On 24th November, Grade 1 students of DPS STS School went for a study tour to Family Needs where they were
introduced with lessons on Food in Social Studies. Students learned about the various kinds of food items in the shop
along with their effectiveness and their nutritional value content.
SOLO WESTERN MUSIC COMPETITION:
On the 27th of November, 2014 DPS School hosted a Solo Western Music Competition for Grades 5-12. Students
performed delightful numbers and the victorious ones from Grades 5-7 were:

NOBANNO UTSHOB/HARVEST FESTIVAL
Among the students from Grades 8-12, the victors were:
1. Urbana Shouqat (9B – Emerald) in 1st place
2. Subaita Binte Sharif (8A – Topaz) in 2nd Place
3. Raisa Jamali (9B – Emerald) in 3rd Place
On the 23rd of November, there was a Special Assembly where students from Grades 1-9 celebrated the Harvest
Festival. The celebration commenced with the recitation and its translation of the Surah Fatiha. Students from Grades
3, 4, 5 and 6 sang meaningful harvest songs elaborating the significance of harvesting celebrations which are inherent
in Bengali culture and wonderful dances were performed by students from Grades 1- 9. Finally the students of Grades
4, 5 and 7 recited lovely poems that reflected the preparations of rural desserts and cakes prepared for the occasion
to bring in the harvest. The Special Assembly concluded with the National Anthem.
PRE PRIMARY ACTIVITIES
PLAYGROUP – PRIMARY COLOURS
The little learners of Playgroup learnt about primary colours. “Colour themes” filled with fun activities and events
where the young ones enjoyed thoroughly. They played with blue foam and yellow water in the play area, wearing
outfits according to the colour theme of the respective week, while participating in life-skill based activities. The red
coloured theme focused on making apple salad while also contributing to crafting items on themes of Triangle and
Squares.
NURSERY – COMPLEX COLOURS
The curious minds of Nursery participated in several creative activities in November. Children worked in compliance
with the theme “Different shades and mixing colours". Children were not only taught about the variance of colors but
also learnt about mixing colors to produce another. They were transfixed as the new colors emerged after the mixing
was concluded. In adorable aprons, the children performed free hand painting in the outdoor play area of the School.
The following week, the Nursery children participated in a Group Project Work on Bubble Print and learned about the
seven Rainbow colors which they later incorporated and made a huge rainbow in Sponge print.
KG – COOKING ACTIVITY AND MEDITATION
DPS STS School KG Class had their cooking activity on November 29th. The children of KG recently read a book named
‘Magic Porridge Pot’ in the class. They also watched a cartoon and got very curious about Porridge. Furthermore, they
were shown pictures of grains, wheat, and oats from the computer. For their better understanding, teachers took
them to the cafeteria and showed them how to cook porridge. After cooking, they shared the porridge amongst their
friends. Teachers also enlightened them about the benefits of eating oats and the recipe in details and encouraged
them to have it for breakfast.
The children of KG were also introduced to the idea of meditation in order to control hyper-activity in the class with
the aim to help balance the whole system by supporting emotional development and giving rest to the mind so that
the children are not overwhelmed by their strong feelings. Benefits of meditation are that it allows children to return
to their natural rhythm and helps them cope with the emotions of frustration and fear.
PRE PRIMARY CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATION, 2014
Children’s Day Special Assembly was held for Grades 1-5 on Thursday, November 20th. The assembly commenced with
the recitation of Surah Fatiha. A short speech on the significance of Children’s Day followed. The students of Grades 3,
4 and 5 then presented the song, “Let the children have a world.” The students of Grades 1and 2 then presented a
song in Bangla, ‘Amra notun.’ A beautiful dance by the students of Grade 1 and 2 followed and the assembly ended
with the singing of the National Anthem.
FELICITATIONS!
Heartiest congratulations to Ms. Rezia Parvin – H. R Officer and Assistant to Principal, who was blessed with a
baby boy on 25th Novemeber.
Heartiest congratulations to Ms. Raihana, Chemistry Lab Assistant on the birth of her baby boy!
SPORTS
DPS STS INTER SCHOOL CHESS TOURNAMENT
The DPS STS Inter School Chess Tournament was held on the 28th November (Friday) and 29th November (Saturday) at
DPS STS School in Uttara, Dhaka in which 15 schools participated. The event was held in 5 categories:
CATEGORY 1 – Combined (Boys and Girls) KG – Class 2
Safin Yasir (Grade 2A – Emerald) Unbeaten Champion
CATEGORY 2 – Boys (Grades 3-4)
Rameen Ahmed (Grade 4D-Topaz) Unbeaten Champion
Zaeef Chowdhury (Grade 3B-Topaz) Runners up
CATEGORY 3 – Boys (Grades 5-10)
Nova Tasha (Grade 6A-Ruby) – Unbeaten Champion
CATEGORY 4 – Girls (Grades 3-4)
Musfica Zannat Sawri (Oasis Children’s Home) – Unbeaten Champion
CATEGORY 5 – Girls (Grades 5-10)
Raida Atandrila (Grade 6A-Ruby) – Unbeaten Champion
Towards the end of the contest, Grand Master Mr. Reefat Bin Sattar played simultaneously with the 15 prize winners
of the Event.
The championship was organized by DPS STS Department of Physical Education and the prizes were distributed by
Chief Guest Grand Master Mr. Reefat Bin Sattar. Vice Principal of DPS STSSchool, Ms. Madhu Wal handed over a
memento to the Grandmaster and thanked him for his presence. There are 5 Grand Masters in our country and
Reefat Bin Sattar is one of them. He has won the Bangladesh Chess Championship in 2006 and 2007 and is the third
Grandmaster of Bangladesh. He has represented Bangladesh in ten Chess Olympiads, from 1994 to 2012.
7TEEN FUTSAL INTER SCHOOL FOOTBALL CUP 2014
On the 21st and 22nd November, Boys from Grades 11 and 12 were taken to the National Handball Stadium in Dhaka
to participate in the 7Teen Futsal Inter School Football Cup 2014. 21 Schools from the Dhaka region participated in
this tournament and DPS STS School played 6 Matches out of which there were two Victories. One match was with
Mastermind International School and the other was with AISD (American International School Dhaka)
TURKISH HOPE INTER SCHOOL FOOTBALL FESTIVAL -2014-15
On the 20th of November, Boys from Grades 5-8 participated in the Turkish Hope Inter School Football Festival. Six
Respective Schools from the Dhaka region participated in this festival and DPS STS School emerged as the Under 12
Champions with a magnificent total of 2-1 against Turkish Hope International School.
THE PLEDGE HARBOR SPORTS ACADEMY: JUNIOR CRICKET PLAY DAY 2014
On the 14th of November, Boys from Grades 4, 5 and 6 (28 students) participated in the Pledge Harbor Junior Cricket
Play Day along with 14 other schools from the Dhaka Region at the Pledge Harbor Sports Academy in Gazipur. There
were three teams from DPS STS School and the Under 14 Team became the Champions with 4 mind blowing victories
from 5 games. The Under 13 Team played 4 games and secured only 1 victory and the Under 12 Team also played 4
games out of which 2 were won. Students were thrilled to be there as they mingled with other students from other
schools. After a delicious luncheon, students dipped in the pool and happily returned to School.
ASIAN YOUTH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP-2014
Nova Tasha student of Grade 6A from DPS STS School, Dhaka participated in the Asian Youth Chess
Championship‐2014 which started from 6th November till 14th November 2014 in New Delhi, India under the
category of Open Chess Competition (under 14 boys). Total 110 participants from 16 countries participated in this
Event. He achieved 27th place among the 110 participants.
INTERNATIONAL ABACUS COMPETITION IN KUALA LUMPUR
Sparsha Prakash (Class 7D, Topaz) has won the championship at 14th International Abacus Competition at Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia in Advance 2 category.
