The Chamber Board voted to support the Plan as presented to the City Council. There will be some important conversations about building heights, traffic, circulation and the amount of housing being allowed in the downtown. You can get all the recent news on this project by visiting www. ci.lafayette.ca.us. 17th Annual Lafayette Art & Wine Festival East End Medians and a Round-about Friday, August 10 - The Floorshakers Friday, August 17 - Mixed Nuts Friday, August 24 - Night Fever All shows begin at 6:00pm in the Lafayette Plaza (corner of Mt. Calling all Directors Petitions are located in this newsletter. Want to make a difference for your business and those around you? Consider submitting a petition to run for a two year term on the Chamber Board. Lafayette Green Award Winners Scott Hampton & Wendy Tamis of Clocks etc. City Staff has once again received a healthy grant, this time to continue installing medians on Mt. Diablo Blvd. between 1st Street and Brown Ave. At a series of public meetings, the staff has also introduced a concept including a round-about located where Golden Gate Way meets Mt. Diablo Blvd. (at the Gazebo). Check the city’s website www. ci.lafayette.ca.us. for details. This project is moving quickly to begin in 2013. A number of businesses are opposed to loosing the “suicide lane” where customers can make left turns in and out of their businesses. Deliveries also make use of the center lane. The city council should see this on their agenda in August. Please address your comments or concerns to the city council or city Engineer Tony Coe. Save the date for our recycling workshop Tuesday, September 11, 2012 5:30pm • Bank of the West Mandatory commercial recycling became law on July 1. Specifically, those businesses that generate 4 cubic yards of more of trash each week, or apartment or condo buildings with 5 units or more, will be required to adopt recycling that will divert 50% or more of their waste. Not sure if your business generates 4 yards or more per week? Simply check your garbage bill to see what your garbage container size is multiplied by the number of pick-ups per week to see if it meets or exceeds 4 yards. Businesses or buildings that are below the 4 cubic yard or 5 unit thresholds are encouraged but not required to recycle. Businesses that already have on-going recycling programs or activities can continue and are encouraged to review and improve these activities to maximize recycling rates. For those businesses that are not currently recycling and will need to do so, there is no reason to panic. There is plenty of time and resources to help your business design and adopt a recycling practice that fits your needs and budget! Although the state regulation started on July 1, businesses will have six months to design and adopt a recycling program or activity. The Lafayette Chamber Green Committee’s #1 priority is to work with chamber members and other Lafayette businesses to help them learn the requirements of the mandatory commercial recycling and the variety of ways that businesses can respond. Visit the “Lafayette Green” business section on the Chamber’s website and watch for informative workshops to be sponsored by the Chamber Green Committee. Business recycling information, including local recycling services, are also available at www.wastediversion.org. If you have immediate questions, feel free to email Bart Carr, Green Committee Chair, at bart@sustainablelafayette.org .
