The Boss……………...
Last Saturday’s Scottish Cup 1st Round replay victory over Colony Park at Holm Park might have
been expected but it was still good to register a win and see the lads playing some nice football
again. We created enough chances to score a few more and it was disappointing to lose a cheap
goal in the second half but over the piece it was a step in the right direction.
The second round draw has paired us at home to Lossiemouth United and with the greatest respect
to our North Region opponents it is another tie where we should be looking to win and progress into
the 3rd round draw. Hopefully we can do it without the need for a replay this time!
Our injury situation is looking a bit better. Joe Andrew will still be missing for a while yet but Ian
Gold’s injury has almost cleared and he should be available for today’s game. It was also good to
get a bit of game time into Ross Harvie who has struggled to recover his fitness following on from a
bad injury sustained towards the tail end of last season.
Today we get back to Super Premier League action and I’m sure I’d be stating the obvious if I said it
is vitally important for us to start putting some points on the board and with a couple of cup fixtures
following this game it will be a few weeks before our next League game. Our opponents Arthurlie
have, like us, made quite a few changes to their squad since last season but they have also recently
changed their manager as a result of Gavin Duncan’s resignation.
This can sometimes have a positive effect on the players as they attempt to impress their new boss
therefore we should expect another difficult game but I’ll be looking for us to build on last week’s
winning performance as we strive to climb up the table.
Please give the players as much backing as possible.
Thanks and enjoy the game,
Billy McGhie.

Chairman’s Chat
Last week we made it through to the 2nd round of the Scottish Junior Cup thanks to a deserved 4-1
replay win against Colony Park. The Aberdeenshire side made it very hard for us in the first match to
earn a second bite at the cherry. But it was pleasing to make it through in the end with a bit of style.
We scored some great goals - notably Stevie Gardiner's first-half strike at the end of a great move
and Graeme Ramage's brilliant free kick - and played some good football. Doing well in the Scottish
Junior Cup is a huge thing. It earns additional revenue that can allow the club a bit of breathing
space. Draws have been unkind to us in recent years and we have had a fair bit of bad luck on the
way. Hopefully that changes this season.
Wish Bankies
all the best
for season
2014-2015
We have added another member of staff to Budgie's back-room team in the shape of physio Ryan
Wilkie. Ryan was in the dugout last Saturday and accepted an offer of a role at the club after the
match. He is a former professional player with Celtic and Liverpool whose career was ended due to
a cruciate ligament injury. As well as studying for a masters degree in physiotherapy, he is also a
youth coach with Celtic. We are delighted to welcome Ryan to the club.
Next month we are hosting a race night in a bid to boost club funds. Commercial revenue has taken
a bit of a hammering over the last couple of years with fewer businesses spending money as they
have done before. Please support this if you are able, even if you can't attend. Ask any member of
the board about sponsoring a horse or a jockey on the night. It's an important club fundraiser, folks.
Revenues are shrinking while costs keep going up.
On behalf of everyone at the club I'd like to welcome the family of late Bankies fan Stevie Keith to
the game today. Stevie is held in great esteem and is sadly missed by his friends in the Clydebank
support. We are grateful to Stevie's family for supporting the club today by sponsoring the match.
We will do our very best to honour the memory of one of our own with a positive performance and
result.
Finally, as ever, please give the players your best support today.

‘Proud To Be a Bankie’
On this page we put the spotlight on a Bankies fan, this week it’s the turn of singer
songwriter extraordinaire “Nolly Douker” Hamish MacDonald
Q1. How long have you been a Bankies fan?
Since the mid 60s - vaguely remember being at ES Clydebank games and the Combined
Reserve League before we became Clydebank FC senior.
Q2. Do you remember your first game?
I remember my first senior Clydebank FC game as an
away trip to Hamilton a 0-0 draw followed by a home
game in which we beat Brechin 4-2, I can remember one
of the Bankies goals as it was a bizarre effort where the
keeper kicked out and it hit one of our players - at what
would become the Club end. (3rd Dec 66 Programme)
Q3. What is your most memorable match and why?
So many but 2-2 against Chelsea was really special, with
Chelsea being
a top side at
the time with
players like Bonetti and Osgood. Packed into
Kilbowie on a Friday night, under the lights
against one of the great stylish English teams
of the 1960s, it all seemed a bit surreal amid
Clydebank.
Clydebank and Chelsea sides line up 1967.
Q4. What's your most disappointing moment following
Bankies?
Learning we went out of business - it was truly heartbreaking.
Q5. Best player you've seen in a Bankies jersey?
Davie Cooper

Q10. Do you think we are doing things the right way or
would you like to see someone with money come in and
bankroll us?
I think we are doing things the right way but wouldn't be
averse to investment and progress - but would qualify that by
saying I wouldn't want us to lose our identity as a community club.

Todays Match Sponsors
Todays match has been sponsored by the family and friends of the late Stevie Keith - “The Cat”.
Stevie was a lifelong Bankies fan who loved watching our team. We all have fond memories of him at
loads of games through the years both Senior and in the Juniors, at home and away. From drunken
jaunts in the “Sherrymobile”, to carving out the penalty spot at Kilbowie with a pen knife where Ken
Eadie scored from the spot in our last competitive game there (...its still planted in his back garden).
From the legendary “overnighter” at the Aberdeen cup game at Pittodrie, to giving big Stefan Gonet
advice on shot stopping and goalies gloves after a great day out at the Junior Cup final in 2009.
Stevie’s work took him all over the world and in “ex-pat” bars from as far apart as Singapore to Rio De
Janiero in among the customary Man Utd, Liverpool and Old Firm colours you will find Bankies strips
in pride of place left there for display for everyone to see by our mate , “the wee man”.
When Stevie took ill two years ago, even though he was suffering greatly he was still desperate to get
to the games, and when admitted to hospital, he still wanted to know all the results and how we were
playing. He had his Bankies top on till the very end.
We all miss him dearly and we hope that today and tonight ( we are all going to The Ettrick in Old
Kilpatrick after todays game and an invitation to all that you are welcome to join us ) will be a fitting
tribute to him and a chance to remember all the good times we shared with him.

Arthurlie make the short trip through from Barrhead and arrive on the back of another defeat which has
their fans, much like those of Clydebank, looking anxiously at the league table. Three points from fifteen
is not where the Dunterlie faithful had hoped to see their favourites after five league games. Whether this
had any bearing on Gavin Duncan’s decision to step down as manager is, of course, his business but
the Lie committee didn’t waste time in securing the services of Glenafton Athletic full back Craig McEwan
as his successor. Southy brings with him former team-mate Craig Potter and ex-Bankies striker Stevie
Kerrigan as part of his backroom team.

This afternoon’s League fixture is sponsored by the friends of Stevie Keith who, my very good friend Neil
reminded me, was tragically taken from us two years ago. I studied Mechanical Engineering with “The
Cat” at what is now Glasgow Caledonia University and, speaking on behalf of all his friends, know he will
be looking down on us and enjoying another “football day”. RIP Stevie, you are well missed mate.

In Town Today-Arthurlie
The Lie began their season by winning group five of the Sectional League Cup which wasn’t totally
unexpected considering they are in a section with teams from lower Leagues in the form of Benburb,
Neilston, St Anthonys and Pollok (hope the Lie fans enjoy this wee light-hearted dig). A home quarter
final exit at the hands of Blantyre Vics saw their early season trophy chances disappear on the same
night that Clydebank went out at Wishaw, perhaps a portent into how the sides respective League
campaigns would kick-off.
The Dunterlie Park men had a tough opening couple of fixtures with Irvine Meadow and then Beith
providing the opposition. Both of the Ayrshire sides had been touted as championship challengers this
term on the strength of some of their summer signings. That said, Arthurlie had also been mentioned
in some quarters as being a side to watch out for, particularly as they had signed a top striker of the
quality of Richie Barr from arch rivals Pollok. However two defeats were to ensue and the Lie were at
the foot of the table looking up. They steadied the ship with a home victory over newly promoted
Troon but two more losses mean they sit perilously close to the foot of the table again. A defeat for
Arthurlie this afternoon added to victories for Cumnock at Shotts and Troon at Beith would see the
East Renfrewshire side slide to the foot of the table.
This is the eleventh meeting between these two sides and the seventh on League business. Honours
are currently even at five wins apiece although Clydebank have won the last three. Very strangely it
seems that the away side holds the upper hand in these fixtures as in the five Holm Park games the
Lie have been victorious four times! The only Clydebank home win came in last season’s league
meeting when a 3-1 victory secured the league double over Arthurlie after a 5-2 success in the first
league meeting at Dunterlie. These games almost always bring goals with them too. In the previous
ten meetings the fans have seen the ball hit the net no fewer than thirty seven times with Clydebank
shading the scoring charts at twenty to Lie’s seventeen. Most of the goal action would seem to be
reserved for the second half with just fifteen goals coming in the first period and an amazing twenty
two in the second forty five minutes. Hopefully both sets of players can serve up a spectacle for the
eager supports of each club.
The pressure is possibly more intense on Clydebank than it is on Arthurlie at this time. Bankies have
lost their last five home League matches and haven’t taken three points from Holm Park in the League
since a 2-1 over Kilbirnie Ladeside back in April. In fact this was Clydebank’s last League win and it
came eight games ago! Failure to win this afternoon will equal the club’s worst ever League run of
nine games without a victory.
Can Clydebank gain their first League win of the season? Ninety minutes of football will tell.

Titan’s Bankies A-Z
Are you still in touch with any of your old Kilbowie team mates? Yes I'm still friends with Jon
Crawford and Sean Sweeney on Facebook.
What are you doing with yourself these days? I'm currently living in Switzerland with Sara and my
two year old son Jackson.
What's your thoughts on what happened to the demise of the senior club and the subsequent
rebirth as a junior club? It should never have been allowed to happen but with the great work by
the loyal fans we've risen again, I just wish there was a way to get the Bankies back playing in the
seniors where we belong.
Thanks to Ken for taking the time to do the interview and for making Titans day!

Titan’s Bankies A-Z
We have reached the letter 'E' in our Bankies alphabet journey but
there is only one man fit to fill this page. This week Titan had the great
honour of interviewing his all time hero, goal scoring legend Ken
Eadie. The Prince of strikers scored an unbelievable 170 goals for the
club, a record that is unlikely to ever be beaten. It was great to hear
Ken still talking so fondly about the Bankies.
What was your best goal for the Bankies? I would have to say the 20 yard
volley away at Hamilton, I think we won 4-1 that day.
...And what was your favourite goal? My 4th against Partick
Thistle in the 7-1 demolition which won me the golden boot.
What was your most memorable match for the club? My
testimonial against Rangers in 1996 as it was the last ever game
played at Kilbowie and my last for the club where I'd had so many
great years.
SPONSORED BY MR.FIXIT’S TIPS www.mrfixitstips.co.uk
Who was the best player you played with? Davie Cooper and
Paul Harvey.
What was your favourite thing about playing for Bankies? I
always felt happy knowing I could score a goal at anytime with the
quality and fantastic service with so many good players behind
me.
