T.J. MARTELL
FOUNDATION FACTS
„
Founded in 1975 by Tony Martell and his colleagues in memory of his son T.J., a
victim of leukemia
The Foundation has raised over $225 million for innovative research
Entertainers from all genres of music, film, and television support the Foundation
„
Notable Achievements through Martell Funding:
„
„
„
„
„
Martell Support to Childrens Hospital has dramatically reduced the mortality rate for
children's neuroblastoma from 80% in 1995 to less than 20% today. We continue the
fight to reach 0% mortality.
Mayo Clinic will begin to treat patients with a virus constructed in a laboratory to boost
the immune system to treat hormone refractory prostate cancer. This work,
accomplished with few resources over several years, would have not happened without
Martell support.
At Oregon Health Sciences Center, Dr. Brian Druker, who developed Gleevec (the first
successful targeted agent for effectively treating leukemia) is using Martell support to
selective turn of molecule pathways, one at a time, to discover new drugs for blood
cancer.
