MARTELL FOUNDATION FACTS Founded in 1975 by Tony Martell and his colleagues in memory of his son T.J., a victim of leukemia The Foundation has raised over $225 million for innovative research Entertainers from all genres of music, film, and television support the Foundation Notable Achievements through Martell Funding: Martell Support to Childrens Hospital has dramatically reduced the mortality rate for children's neuroblastoma from 80% in 1995 to less than 20% today. We continue the fight to reach 0% mortality. Mayo Clinic will begin to treat patients with a virus constructed in a laboratory to boost the immune system to treat hormone refractory prostate cancer. This work, accomplished with few resources over several years, would have not happened without Martell support. At Oregon Health Sciences Center, Dr. Brian Druker, who developed Gleevec (the first successful targeted agent for effectively treating leukemia) is using Martell support to selective turn of molecule pathways, one at a time, to discover new drugs for blood cancer. FAMILY DAY OVERVIEW Family Day has been referred to as “New York City’s largest indoor carnival” by past attendees! Over 1,200 people were in attendance at last year’s Family Day, including a “who’s who” of music and entertainment industry executives and celebrities! Family Day started with only 100 people in attendance and has steadily grown into one of the T.J. Martell Foundation’s largest and most profitable events! 2009 HONOREES Marcus Peterzell Managing Director of GMR Entertainment Marcus Peterzell has a rich and diverse background, covering over 20 years in the entertainment industry. Peterzell started in concert promotion, planning the marketing of over 50 high profile concert events for artists such as Billy Joel, Peter Frampton, Linda Ronstadt, Genesis, Chicago, Doobie Brothers and Tom Petty. Peterzell then moved into television, developing and producing numerous music based networks, cable TV series’ and specials for outlets including Cinemax, Lifetime, USA, Viacom, CBS, MTV and A&E. Peterzell went on to hold executive marketing and business affairs positions at various record labels including TVT, Fiction/Elektra, and Ignition/Tommy Boy. At Fiction, Peterzell served as U.S. manager for The Cure, representing the group for four platinum records and a sold out North America tour. In 2001, Peterzell joined MusicVision where he served as SVP of Marketing and Sales. In 2004, Peterzell was named co-president of Omnicom’s lead entertainment marketing agency, AWE ,which merged into GMR to form GMR Entertainment in 2007. Peterzell oversees the agency's global sales and marketing efforts via seven offices in four countries and supervises key accounts including Time-Warner Cable and Jagermeister. 2009 HONOREES Bob Frank President of KOCH Records Bob Frank is President of KOCH Records, the #1 Independent for the last 7 years. Prior to this, Frank was President of Walter Yetnikoff’s Velvel Music from its 1997 inception through the creation of KOCH Entertainment in 1999. Frank coordinated the acquisition of Velvel resulting in the creation of KOCH Entertainment. Before Velvel, he spent eight years with PolyGram, primarily at Mercury Nashville as GM/SVP. Frank is a member of the A2IM Organization which serves the interests of American Independent labels. He is also Chairman/Board member for Merlin, the global rights group representing independents.
