History of the School
Focus school Hornby has occupied the current site since September 2011
Although we were in many ways sad to leave the Whinfield site, as it had

All students belong to a House Group which is overseen by the Deputy

House also has a House Captain and Deputy House Captain who are part of
our student leadership team.

School Trips
Fundraising
A variety of school trips are available to students throughout their time at
Hornby Campus, bringing subjects to life. Some regular visits include a
History trip to Vindolanda, a Geography trip to Malham, a 6th form trip to
the Houses of Parliament and a whole school trip to White Scar Caves.
At Hornby Campus we are very aware that there are plenty of people less
fortunate than ourselves and we take pride in doing our best to help them,
therefore fundraising plays a prominent role in school life. This is usually
undertaken in House groups and we have supported and continue to
support a variety of charities.
Students enjoy the chance to learn outside of the classroom and to
develop cross-curricular skills. There have also been trips to York, to the
Wray scarecrow festival for our primary students and a French exchange
for our 6th formers.
These range from home-grown causes such as MacMillan Cancer Support,
Parkinson’s UK and Diabetes UK to charities further afield, such as The
Bethany Project in Tanzania, a music school in Albania and the worldwide
Shoebox Appeal.

Homework
Homework provides an opportunity for students to independently prepare
for learning by investigating, reflecting on learning or practising skills.
Homework completion is compulsory at Hornby and students will be

environment or to upload completed work to it for marking. As students
become more independent and self-directed this should happen more
