WHAT IS THE IUGB FOUNDATION?
The IUGB Foundation is a U.S. 501 (c)(3) tax exempt non-profit organization
based in Atlanta, Georgia. The Foundation was organized by U.S. and Ivorian
supporters of the International University of Grand-Bassam (IUGB), located in
Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa. IUGB Foundation’s board of directors, a talented
and diverse group of individuals, helped conceptualize this new U.S. style
international university, saw it open with 8 students in 2005, and assisted
in preparing its first strategic business plan.

RACHEL KONAN who is always exuberant about her
IUGB experience, completed the first two years of
her studies at IUGB in 2009. Instead of transferring
to Georgia State as most of her classmates did, she
chose to continue her education in Africa. This took
her to Ghana where she earned a bachelor’s degree
in Business Administration from Ashesi University
College. Identified by General Electric Company (GE)
as a rising star before completing her degree, she was
recruited into a GE internship program and hired
by the company immediately upon graduation.
She quickly rose to her current position as business
analyst for French-speaking West Africa based in
Acrra, Ghana. On April 5, 2013, she returned to
IUGB as part of a GE delegation that announced
a new partnership with IUGB, focused on building
African human capital.

KIDO KOUASSI attended the International University
of Grand-Bassam pursuing a Bachelor in Computer
Information Systems. While at IUGB, he participated
in a U.S. State Department funded program entitled
Study of the United States Institute (SUSI) for student
leaders in social entrepreneurship. Always concerned
with helping people in need, he and some friends
from IUGB founded WINDAY, a non-profit
organization which helps raise awareness and takes
action on social issues affecting the Grand-Bassam
community. He is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of
Georgia State University and is currently working for
Nuesoft Technologies as an IT Specialist. Kido dreams
of eradicating poverty and hunger in Côte d’Ivoire.
The IUGB Foundation raises funds to provide scholarships for needy students
enabling them to attend IUGB. It also supplies grants and stipends to bring
distinguished international faculty and staff to IUGB and provides general
support to help the University achieve self-sufficiency. This assistance will
enable IUGB to produce ethical leaders and good citizens who will drive
African development in the 21st century.

Most higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa lack the capacity to produce
both the volume and quality of well-educated and skilled personnel for sustained
national growth and development. Côte d’Ivoire is no different. Sub-Saharan
African higher education institutions enroll only five percent of eligible students
as compared to 70 percent in many high income countries. IUGB plays a critical
role in helping to bridge this gap by providing a high quality education for Africa’s
future leaders. As an institution delivering professional programs and degrees in
English, “the global language of business,” IUGB:
† Offers a dynamic American-styled curriculum tailored to the
needs and demands of the region.
† Has an inclusive admissions policy. Welcomes students
irrespective of ethnicity, gender, race or socio-economic status
and provides financial assistance to qualified needy students.
† Models best practices in: academic excellence, governance,
academic quality, and accountability.
† Advances the public-private partnership and promotes
a “culture of giving”.
TOTAL FACULTY (Jan 2014): 53
TUITION AND FEES:
From $8,000 to $10,000
† Provides a high quality, relatively affordable higher education
option within the region.
ENROLLMENT (Jan 2014):
Approximately 350 students. Enrollment is projected to
reach 1200 students over the next 5-8 years.
IUGB has locations in both Abidjan and Grand-Bassam.
Abidjan is about 35 miles from Grand-Bassam, is the
commercial capital of the country and is linked to all
major transportation facilities.
† Lessens the impact of the African “brain drain”.
