Welcome back to the final term
for 2013 if you are a Junior
School family – or the start of
the new academic year if you
are a Senior School family.
Senior School Speech Night
THU 31 OCTOBER
KSSA Athletics Carnival at Wellard
Oval (Year 4-6 field events all day)
Open Morning 9:30am-11:00am

At the end of last term we
conducted the annual Senior
School Speech Night where we
recognised the achievements of
our students and staff over the
preceding 12 months.
It was unfortunate that a
number of our students elected
not to attend this compulsory
School event, a decision that
appears
to
have
been
supported by their parents. It is
important that students and
parents
appreciate
that
attendance at Speech Night is
compulsory for all students in
the Senior School.
This is
explained at time of enrolment
as a requirement of meeting the
standards and ethos of the
School. In the near future I will
be writing to the parents of all
students who failed to attend
requesting and explanation.
Poor Behaviour
It saddens me to have to say
that at the Senior School
Speech Night, there was some
unacceptable,
inappropriate
behaviour.
Unfortunately, it
wasn’t from our students, but
by a handful of parents. These
individuals were impatient and
very rude and vocal to the staff
who were trying to arrange
seating. There was sufficient
seating available, in fact there
were empty seats at the
commencement of the eveningthese people were simply
impatient and verbally abusive.
Parents are reminded that any
complaints will be dealt with as
quickly as possible. It is also
important that they remember
that at PCACS there are
standards of mutual respect and
consideration. No-one at the
School is to be treated
inappropriately or harassed in
any way. As adults we are the
role models for our students.
Year 10 Dinner Dance
At the end of last term the Year
10 students attended the first
Dinner Dance held for the
cohort. The event was held at
‘The Old Barnyard’. The day
after the event, I received a
phone call from the owners.
They wanted the School to know
that they felt that our students
were the most polite well
behaved group that had ever
used the facility.
They
commented that they had left
the facility neater and cleaner
than it was before the event.
Congratulations Year 10’s (now
Year 11’s) - you made a great
impression.
Volunteer Policy
Parents are reminded that the
School has a policy relating to
volunteers.
As of the
commencement of this term
only those parents who have
completed
the
volunteer
documentation will be permitted
to assist in the School. This
policy has been introduced to
ensure the safety of the children;
the volunteers and the staff.
Volunteers are reminded that all
external gates at the School with
the exception of the main gate
on the Wellard/ Meares Road
roundabout are closed shortly
after 8.30 am. This is done to
ensure the safety of the
students.
Year 12 Graduation
Last week we farewelled our
Year 12 Graduating Class with
a
bar-be-cue
breakfast,
farewell
assembly in the
morning and a Valedictory
Eucharist and dinner in the
evening.
The highlight of the morning
activity was the symbolic
departure of the Year 12’s as
they left through a guard of
honour provided by the Junior
School. At the end of that
walk there were a few damp
eyes not just with the
students, but also some of the
parents and a few staff.
Father David presided over a
moving Eucharist where the
students were reminded that
their journey was not over but
just beginning and that the
School had merely prepared
them for what lay ahead.
At the dinner there were
numerous
reflections,
including
some
video
highlights provided by Mr
Townsend of the Year 12 when
they were Foundation Year 6
students.
Despite the
embarrassment,
these
memories were welcomed and
appreciated.
Induction of Prefects
This week we inducted our
2014 School Prefects. The
induction service was quite
moving; and it was particularly
pleasing to see the genuine,
positive way that the Prefects
accepted the seriousness of

the event. There was a sense of nervous
anticipation coupled with real excitement. It
was clearly evident that they appreciated the
challenges ahead and the responsibility that
had been entrusted to them.
I have every confidence that these fine young
people will accept those challenges and
represent the student body effectively and
efficiently over the coming months.

Parking
Parents are reminded that they are not
permitted to park in the staff parking area at
any time between 7.30am and 5.00pm at
any time. The parking bays in this area are
allocated to staff. Car registrations will be
recorded of parents not adhering to this
requirement and they may be denied
vehicular access into the School grounds in
future.

‘A New Academic Year; a Fresh Start’
As the Senior School students commence the new academic
year, it is timely for them to reflect on and possibly refresh
their approach, attitude and work ethic. It is a fresh start for
all of the students and they are urged to take advantage of
this.

Study Area: Ensure that you have an area at home
that is conducive to effective study and work
practices.

Form a Study Group: Spending some time with
your peers going over the work you’ve covered in
class will help you to consolidate and reinforce
what you have learnt.

Academic Help: attend the academic support
groups held after school. You will be able to get
some one-on-one or small group support. This can
be utilised by students who require assistance or
extension.
Some tips for the students on starting the 2014 academic
year:

Get Involved: be an active member of the School
community through participating in Co Curricular
activities, after school academic help classes, music
ensembles and sporting teams.

Participate: be an active member of the classroom.
Participate in class discussions and ask for help when
you need it.

Homework Timetable: create a study and homework
timetable so you can get on top of your workload early
on. Set aside the time to focus on your school work. If

at 7:00pm (doors open from 6:00pm) at the Alcoa Social Club,

organize a group, or just if you wish to come on your own,
please contact Kylie Trent on kyliemac77@hotmail.com.
We would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide,

Pre Primary Fiesta
Last Term Pre Primary were learning about Different Countries and Cultures. To celebrate our
term we had a ‘Rainbow’ themed fiesta! Our students all came to school in colourful clothes and
we had a fun filled day of festivities to celebrate the occasion. Many thanks to the Pre Primary
parents for your support and help in creating such a wonderful day!

Uniform Shop –Blazer Ordering
Once students enter Year 10 they are required to wear a blazer during Autumn and Winter Terms. As students require sizing
and their blazers need to be ordered, it would be appreciated if those requiring a blazer could arrange for this to be done
between Tuesday 5 November and Friday 8 November. The order to the manufacturer is being placed on the 12 November.
Failure to place your order by this date may result in not having a blazer for next year in time.
Year 11 and 12 students who require a replacement blazer will also need to come in to be sized before the 12 November.
