The U.S. bishops' pastoral on stewardship reinforces today's
reading from 1 Corinthians:
"Because its individual
members do collectively make up the Body of Christ, that
body's health and well-being are the responsibility of the
members - the personal responsibility of each one of us. We
all are stewards of the Church."
If you have not picked up a copy of the
Rediscover Jesus book, please take a
copy as you leave today. The books are
located at all of the church entrances.

Share Your Faith: Support collection for
Church in Latin America
Today, we will take up the Collection for the Church in Latin
America. Your gifts to the collection will fund catechesis, pastoral
programs, marriage and family life projects, seminarian education,
and many other necessary programs in Latin America and the
Caribbean. By funding these programs, the support you give today
will provide seeds to grow the faith for years to come. Please
support the Church in Latin America and be generous in today’s
collection.
The Presentation of the Lord Feast [524]
Originally celebrated in the Eastern
Churches as “The Meeting,” in the sixth
century it began to be celebrated in the
West, where the focus became the
Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary
and was accompanied by solemn blessings
and processions with candles; hence, it is
popularly called “Candlemas.”
Bring your family candles to Mass
next weekend, January 30th/31st and
place them on the table at the front of the Church and
Fr. Kevin will bless them.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS!
Prayer service 1/27: 5th grade
The Church of St. Mary hosted catechists from
around the diocese this weekend for training. Thank
you to Jan Neylon and her team for providing
refreshments. We continue to pray for all catechists.
Mercy Moment: Shelter the homeless - we are called to be
welcoming those who are fleeing their homelands and support efforts
so they may return to their homes. Pope Francis says “The Church
stands at the side of all who work to defend each person’s right to live
with dignity, first and foremost by exercising the right not to emigrate
and to contribute to the development of one’s country of origin. This
process should include, from the outset, the need to assist the countries
which migrants and refugees leave. This will demonstrate that
solidarity, cooperation, international interdependence and the
equitable distribution of the earth’s goods are essential for more
decisive efforts, especially in areas where migration movements
begin, to eliminate those imbalances which lead people, individually
or collectively, to abandon their own natural and cultural environment.
Welcoming others means welcoming God in person." For information
about refugee resettlement services contact Catholic Charities at 405523-3000.
JH/SH RE is this Wednesday from 6:30-8PM. All 7th-12th
grade youth are invited!
Last weekend several of our youth attended a regional gathering
in Perry. Over forty teens from Tonkawa, Blackwell, Newkirk,
Perry and Ponca City came together for Mass, lunch a fellowship.
This is a great way for our local Catholic youth to get to know each
other! The next activity will be in Tonkawa in April, so please
watch for details!
Dear Parishioners, we ask that you mark your
calendars for a date that fits your schedule to have
you and/or your family's portrait made for our
upcoming Church Directory. Also, the current
committee will step down after this directory and
we want to "train" new volunteers so they will be in
the know for the next directory. We will walk you
through every step of the process.
Please
prayerfully consider stepping up and assisting this
year. Photo dates are: May 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14;
May 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21; Newkirk dates: May
24, 25 and 26; Make-up dates: June 14, 15, 16, 17
and 18.
Next Wednesday, February 3rd is the deadline to
sign up for Steubenville. The annual trip will be July 811 and the cost will be around $300-$350 per person.
There will be plenty of fundraising opportunities.
Please make sure to sign up before the deadline to
secure your spot!
