SHAKE IT UP POSITIVE DISRUPTION 2016 LGFP Annual Conference & Master Class Program & Registration Local Government Finance Professionals Queensland Inc SURFERS PARADISE MARRIOTT RESORT & SPA | 22-25 NOVEMBER 2016 INVITATION FROM THE PRESIDENT As President of the Local Government Finance Professionals of Queensland, it is my pleasure to invite you to participate in the 37th annual conference of the Association. We have all just completed the budget process for newly elected Councils and I am very aware of the dedication and commitment it takes to engage with new Councillors, make policy adjustments and complete the process within a short timeframe. There has been an ongoing theme of reduced grants and subsidies from both the State and Commonwealth Governments and this has placed additional strain on many Councils’ ability to keep rate rises to levels expected during a low inflation period. In addition the push for increased services and assets is growing beyond many Council’s financial capacity. Financial sustainability is now mentioned in most conversations involving Councils. The Association has again this year delivered a Chief Finance Officer and Finance Manager Forum to give professional development exposure on matters relevant and current. This professional development will be continued this year through the annual masterclass and conference in November. The theme of the conference this year is Shake It Up, Positive Disruption which supports the current climate of all spheres of government in general. Our masterclass program will be the entrée to the conference and will be themed around service levels. The conference itself will offer professional and personal development and is aimed at finance professionals within the local government sector. The annual conference provides one of the best opportunities for interacting with peers in our profession and increasing the collective knowledge and understanding within our industry. On behalf of the Executive, I encourage you to attend, actively participate and build networks so that you can Shake It Up and have some Positive Disruption in the way your Council does its business in this ever changing environment.
