around
How to use this guide
This guide will help you get around the Gold Coast
and all its attractions by bus.
The Gold Coast Highway is the starting point for
most of the bus routes featured in this guide and
destinations are categorised by subject alphabetically.
Each attraction is listed at the top of the page in
alphabetical order. Descriptions are included as well
as attraction operation times and other handy hints
such as how to time your arrival.
Terminology
The following terms are often referred to throughout
this guide. Here’s what they mean:
HIGHWAY - Most hotels are located near the Gold
Coast Highway, which is where most of the buses run.
The Gold Coast Highway is often where you will catch
your bus.
BEACH SIDE - To travel south, wait at a bus stop on
the side of the Highway closest to the beach.
DRY SIDE - To travel north, wait at a bus stop on the
side of the Highway furthest away from the beach.
ZONES - Fares are calculated on the number of zones
you use in your journey.

Public transport
information
TransLink delivers integrated public transport services
across South East Queensland. Purchasing a go card and
travelling on TransLink’s network of buses, trains and
ferries is the smartest, easiest and most cost effective
way to see the Gold Coast.
Travel times and fares
Visit the TransLink website to use the online journey
planner or view timetables and network maps. If you're
on the move, use TransLinks great mobile friendly
website: mobile.translink.com.au. You can also call
TransLink on 13 12 30 anytime.
Types of Tickets
Catching the bus
Catching the bus is easy, just follow these steps:
1. DESTINATION - choose your destination from the pages of this book.
2. Where to wait for the bus - check the map on pages 8 & 9 to see where your destination is located. For most destinations, you can wait at any bus stop on the Gold Coast Highway, located approximately 400 metres apart. For southern destinations, wait on the beach side of the Highway. For northern destinations, wait on the dry side (refer terminology page 5).
3. What bus to catcH - look for the bus number displayed above the front window of the bus.
4. Hail and Ride - many parts of the Gold Coast operate on a hail and ride basis, so when you see the bus coming, you need to lift your arm to signal the driver to stop the bus.
5. FARES - fares vary depending on where you want
to go. The best option is to buy either a Gold or
Freedom pass for unlimited travel. For longer stays,
buy a card.

Single paper ticket
A single paper ticket allows you a single one-way journey
to your destination and includes transfers between any
bus or train within two hours. You can buy a single paper
ticket onboard selected buses, at attended Queensland
Rail train stations and from fare machines.
go card
go card is an electronic card
that stores value for travel on all
TransLink services. Travelling with go
card is easy – simply touch on at the
beginning of your journey and touch
off at the end. Your fare is automatically deducted from
your card balance.
You can buy a go card from all attended train stations or
to find your nearest location visit the TransLink website.
There are four types of go card – adult, senior,
concession and child. You can top up your go card as
often as you like, from as little as $5 to as much as $200.
Travel using go card and save at least 30% compared to
the cost of a single paper ticket.

GETTING THERE
To get to the Gold Coast Airport from northern destinations
catch the Number 702 bus from the beach side of the
highway. If travelling from Tweed Heads catch the 761 bus
from the dry side of the highway. If you have just arrived at
the Airport catch the Airport service 702 bus out the front
of the terminal North to Surfers Paradise & Broadbeach or
the 761 service South to Tweed Heads. Ask the driver for
the bus stop closest to your accommodation.
Number 702 services operate 7 days a week at half hourly
intervals from 5am to 11pm, number 761 services operate
7 days a week hourly from 5am to 7.45pm.

If travelling from Coolangatta or Broadbeach you will need
to catch the bus on the dry side of the highway and get off
at the Surfers Paradise bus stop. If coming from the north,
hop off at the Surfers Paradise stop on the beach side of

correct stop. From here it’s just a short walk to Cavill Mall.
