Kincardine - Our Home
Kincardine’s heritage is at the centre of what has made it a lively community, with the
ability to sustain highs and lows since its inception as ‘Penetangore’ in 1848. The name
is believed to be the mispronunciation of an Ojibway First Nation word that Scottish settlers understood to mean “river with sand on one side.” Kincardine was later renamed
and incorporated as a village in 1858. The community continued to grow with the iconic
lighthouse being constructed in 1881. The town remained a proud lumber, salt, fishing, furniture and agricultural hub and a gateway to Bruce County for decades until the
arrival of nuclear power
in 1968. When Canada’s
first commercial nuclear
reactor was built at Bruce
Township’s Douglas Point,
everything changed. The
Bruce Nuclear Power
Development reshaped the face of the local economy and demographics of the region
through the construction of the eight nuclear reactors at Bruce A and B sites between
1977 and 1987. A dark time saw the town suffer through a recession in the late 1990s
after Bruce A was shutdown under the former Ontario Hydro (now Ontario Power Generation). But new life was thrust into the community in 2001 when Bruce Power was formed
and the company leased the nuclear site from OPG. Since then, Kincardine has thrived
once more, first from the restart of Bruce A Units 3&4 in the early 21st century, followed
by Units 1&2 in 2006-2012, making it the largest operating nuclear facility in the world.
Bruce Power is planning future investment in refurbishment projects of the Bruce B
nuclear units in the coming years, which will extend the life of the site for generations to
come. Our community includes the Town of Kincardine, the Village of Tiverton, along with
the hamlets of Inverhuron, Bervie, Armow, Millarton, Glammis, North Bruce and Underwood. Take in camping at Inverhuron Provincial Park, or the Brucedale Conservation Area.

seemingly-endless series of trails through Kincardine. See all that there is to see!
Tiverton
Visit the Village of Tiverton, a vibrant community that has been a hub in Bruce County
for over 130 years. Located in the Municipality of Kincardine at the junction of Highway
21 and Bruce Road 15, the village offers unique shops, restaurants and services that are
worth the 10 minute drive north of town. Check out St. Andrew’s Park, which was built
for the 2009 Tiverton Old Boys and Girls Reunion and named after the village’s original
name. Pick up some chess or checkers pieces and play a game by the fountain. Or maybe
take a scenic stroll down the Tiverton Walk of Memories near the arena, stop by the Tiverton Lions Memorial Park or visit the historic Knox Presbyterian Church. Inverhuron Beach
is just west of the village.

Join us any Saturday night in the summer for a celebration of our Scottish
roots. Our Scottish Pipe Band and Blinky,
our lighthouse mascot, will lead you in a
parade down Queen Street in the town of
Kincardine. If you choose to stay for a few
days, we have a great selection of accommodations from campgrounds to first rate
hotels.

trace their roots back to pioneer times in Bruce County. Our agricultural community has changed in many ways but is still thriving today. We
encourage you to check out the weekly farmers’ market for some local
food in the summer time, as well as the Monday Market held in Victoria Park, where you will find local produce and meat and creations by local
artisans. Many residents have moved in more recently from all over the world
to work in the nuclear industry which makes our rural community of 12,000
very diverse and unique. You are welcome to visit the Bruce Power Visitors’
Centre north of Inverhuron to learn more. Each spring and summer in the
Municipality of Kincardine, we welcome back our seasonal residents and
visitors who like to take advantage of the natural beauty of our area. I invite

Station Beach
Kincardine’s Station Beach and boardwalk are the pride of local residents, who voluntarily patrol and care for the area.
Along the boardwalk leading to the pavilion you’ll see beautiful gardens cared for by volunteers who showcase their talents for our local and summer
guests. Take a read of the descriptive plaques along the boardwalk to learn a bit of history of the area. The wreck of the schooner Ann Maria is significantly exposed south of the pier. All but two souls perished when it sank on October 7, 1902.
The Blue Flag signifies compliance with the internationally accredited program and flies near the Kincardine Cairn honouring the founders of
‘Penetangore’ in 1848. At the beach you’ll see kiteboarders, kayakers, swimmers, volleyballers, sunbathers and those just out to enjoy the beauty. But
swimmers should be aware of the undertow and riptide, as it can be very dangerous for swimmers if underestimated.
The beach has a snack bar, washrooms, fish cleaning station, children’s playground equipment, scenic pavilions and lots of... sand.

Fish Kincardine Derby
Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2015, the Fish Kincardine Derby
is getting ready for another landmark year under the eye of the Kincardine & District Chamber of Commerce. Taking place May 15-24,
the event offers a $5,000 shopping spree at Canadian Tire for the top
salmon, plus a number of other prizes provided by dedicated local
merchants. Top salmon and trout each earn a $1,000 shopping spree
at Lake Huron Rod & Gun. Ladies’ Day is May 16, Seniors ‘Day is May 21
and Kids’ Day is May 24, with special prizes for each. Many other deals
will be taking place throughout downtown Kincardine, including tax
savings at local merchants. Events at local restaurants include a kickoff party with musical entertainment, fish frys, wing nights, seafood
night and karaoke night, just to name a few. Camping is also available
by the marina for those looking to rough it.

Our Lighthouse
The Kincardine Lighthouse is the most iconic building in the Municipality of Kincardine and it has acted as a boater’s guide to safety since it was
erected between 1880 and 1881. The uniquely combined tower and keeper’s quarters were built to service the once busy fishing, salt and furniture port at the time and is now an integral landmark in Lakeside Downtown Kincardine. The eight-sided tower stands 24 metres (74 feet) above
the two-storey keeper’s quarters, which is built on a stone foundation. The
three levels of the lighthouse are joined by almost perpendicular, well-worn
staircases totalling 69 steps, which were climbed at least twice a day by
lighthouse keepers. Barrels of kerosene were once used to fuel the lamp
and had to be hoisted to these heights. The first lamp had shutters rotated
by weighted chains to make the light flash. In 1922, the lamp became electrically powered and today utilizes a large 500-watt lamp. Sailors, recreational boaters and commercial fishers can see the light from a distance
of 30 km. Managed by the Kincardine Yacht Club, it now operates only as
a marine museum on a seasonable basis. Tours are available during the
summer, or by appointment. The range light on the north pier is now the
official beacon used by boaters. Next to the lighthouse is the Huron Terrace Bridge that replaced the aging 1934 structure in 2009. The 60-metre
span now hosts what the community voted as ‘Walker’s Lookout’ a wider,
safer sidewalk with room for the viewing of sunsets, fireworks and the legendary Phantom Piper, who plays from atop the lighthouse most summer
evenings from July until Labour Day. It is named after Paddy Walker, one of
Kincardine’s most notable residents whose 1850 inn sits as the town’s oldest building, museum and heritage centre, just across the street from the
Lighthouse. Also, watch out for our town mascot, Blinky! He can be found
at many community events throughout the year, or trailing behind the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band every Saturday night in the summer!

Marina &
Boardwalk
The Kincardine Marina is one of the oldest historical marine gateways
into Bruce County and is based at the mouth of the Penetangore River.
Operated by the Kincardine Yacht Club (KYC), the marina features
slips and docks for boats of varying sizes, a fish cleaning station, boat
launches, washroom facilities, gazebos, picnic tables and barbecues
for boaters. Docked here are both the Coast Guard Auxiliary tug ‘Mysis’
and South Bruce OPP Marine Unit. Fishing and sailing charters are also
an option for visitors. Next to the marina is beautiful Station Beach
and boardwalk along the former rail line, with flower gardens, volleyball courts and a snack bar. The harbour itself has changed significantly
since the days of lumber, salt and
fish exports and is now a recreational
harbour for seasonal and transient
boaters. Stop by and tour the Kincardine Fish Hatchery across the street
to see how volunteers keep the fish
stocks strong (519-396-5833). Restaurants, shops and motels are only
a short walk up the street.

Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band
The Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band marks
107 years as a band in 2015, as the band continues marching and making history. The Saturday Night Parades draw thousands of people each week from the local area, regionally
and even from around the world, starting on
June 27 until Labour Day weekend (Sept. 5).
The parade begins at 8 p.m. sharp at Durham
Market Square North and rounds the corner north on Queen Street with thousands
of people gathering each week to watch
from streetside, or to march with the band
behind their banner. The parade makes its
way to Quinn Plaza to allow for a break and
meet-and-greet for children with the pipers
and drummers. Regrouping afterwards, the
band marches back to Victoria Park, where
the public can then enjoy a riveting concert
to wrap up the evening, including an unforgettable version of ‘Amazing Grace’ that will
bring a tear to anyone’s eye. The band represents an outstanding level of dedication by
volunteers who have kept it going through
hard times. The band’s repertoire features
between 40 to 50 tunes, which change up
while on the street each week. The group is as
symbiotic with Kincardine as the Lighthouse,
where their members play the sun down as
the Phantom Piper most nights throughout
the summer, except Saturdays. Both events,
along with the outstanding Mass Pipes and
Drums Gathering Festival in August, share
the spotlight as the trademarks of the oldest
street band with unbroken service in Ontario.
The Kincardine Scottish also takes pride in
welcoming anyone interested in learning the
pipe and drums. The band was founded by
William Young in 1907, but didn’t take to the
streets until 1908. At that time the fledgling
band practiced in what is now the award-winning Sugar Shack Tattoo and Art Gallery. The
pipe band is a charitable organization and

Lakeside Downtown Kincardine
You just have to walk down historic Queen Street
to see the pride the community has in its heritage
architecture. The variety of unique restaurants, merchants, stores, shops and services are the strength
of Lakeside Downtown Kincardine. New this year is
the unity of Kincardine Tourism, Kincardine BIA, Kincardine and District Chamber of Commerce and the
Penetangore Regional Economic Development Corporation (PREDC) under one roof at 777B Queen
St. next to Royal LePage realty. Seek out the helpful staff for any tourism or community-related questions. Did you know there are 15 different places to
eat downtown? Over 10 retailers that specialize in
gift and home décor items? There are 15 clothing
stores, three appliance stores, two florists, two travel
agents,10 hair stylists and barbers? Our core area
offers over 150 businesses to meet all of your needs.
Talk to our shop owners, they want to hear what you
think and where you’re from. From Cruise Nights to
Hometown Christmas in the winter, Queen Street is
shut down for special events throughout the year.
On July 11 downtown merchants will participate in
the BIA Saturday Street Festival and Art Zone as part
of the 2014 Lighthouse Blues Festival. On Aug. 17, the
Monday Market on Queen will feature music, food
and great deals! And of course there is the Scottish
Pipe Band Parade every Saturday night from June 27
through to Labour Day weekend. If you take a stroll
in front of the Kincardine Library, you’ll see the landmark memorial sundial to ‘Mark the Sunny Hours’
in honour of the beloved Dr. Solomon Secord, a Kincardine physician and Civil War surgeon. Take some
time to walk down Princes Street to see the Gothic
and Victorian architecture by beautiful Victoria Park.

Market in the Park
Searching for a good deal or maybe some hidden treasures? Maybe
some unique items, antiques, toys, clothing, kettle corn or fresh produce? Check out Kincardine’s Market in the Park every Monday from 9
a.m. to 3 p.m., in Victoria Park, from May 19 weekend until Labour Day
(Sept. 1). You’re sure to find something as vendors from all over the area
showcase a wide variety of booths under the canopy of the huge trees in
the park. There’s never an admission cost, so come enjoy the shade and
see what deals are to be had!

Farmers’ Market
Visit the Farmers’ Market every Saturday during the summer from
Victoria Day weekend until Thanksgiving weekend (May 16-Oct. 10)
from 9am-12pm at the Connaught Park fairgrounds, located west of
Queen Street at the base of Broadway Street. The expanding event
is always looking for more local producers and vendors to showcase
their products, in an effort to strengthen the ‘Buy Local’ revolution.
Admission is free, so come shop for fresh, local fruits, vegetables, meat
products and baking, as well as agricultural products. You won’t leave
empty-handed!

Kincardine Trails System
On a bright sunny summer afternoon, take a stroll through one of the many Kincardine Trails. The winding system features 22 km of all-season trails within the Town of Kincardine. Last year saw a number of successful guided tour events
hosted by local business partner, Penetangear. With a variety of themed events like hiking and biking, monthly trail yoga
and other complimentary classes, new opportunities for social and physical fitness are emerging on the trails. Keep an
eye out for event postings online and on social media. A large portion of the trails are treed, providing excellent shade
on those hot summer days. From downtown, Geddes Environmental Park by Queen Street bridge is a great spot to get
started. Look for entrance signs off major roads to get started on your adventure. The Kincardine Labyrinth Peace Garden
is located in the heart of Kincardine at Geddes Environmental Park. Many new wooded area trails have also been added

The 2015 Bruce Telecom Lighthouse Blues Festival has been recognized as one of
the Top 100 Festival and Events in Ontario by the tourism industry. Only six years old,
the July 10-12 blues music showcase has gained the attention of fans from across the
province with its line-up of major Canadian and international artists. The Bruce Telecom Main Stage outdoors in the Bruce Steakhouse parking lot will feature 12 acts
on Friday and Saturday night including Southern Hospitality with Victor Wainwright,
JP Soars and Damon Fowler, the Ghost Town Blues Band, Jeff Jensen, the 24th Street
Wailers, Crystal Shawanda and from Ireland, Grainne Duffy. On Saturday afternoon,
Lakeside Downtown Kincardine closes Queen St. and hosts the free BIA Saturday
Street Festival. There are four performances stages featuring such Canadian talent
as Rick Fines with Roly Platt, Samantha Martin, Suzy Vinnick and Trouble and Strife.
Added features of the Street Festival include a motorcycle show and shine, a vintage
British sports car display, the TD Bank Children’s Zone, an Artist Row, and a street
marketplace. On Sunday morning in the gazebo in Victoria Park, fans will gather for a
Gospel Revival led by Diana Braithwaite and Chris Whiteley along with the Bluebelles.
Attended by over 4000 people in 2014, the Bruce Telecom Lighthouse Blues Festival
continues to grow and attract new visitors every year.
The festival is a not-for profit with proceeds in support of the Kincardine Lions Club
Davidson Park Redevelopment Project and Splash Pad.

Kincardine Splash Pad
The Kincardine’s Lions Club is expected to open its new splash pad at
the Davidson Centre in 2015. The facility is planned to have 10 to 15 water
features across a 3,000 square foot pad. Also planned are walkways, a
picnic shelter and fully accessible washrooms.

Scottish Festival &
Highland Games
The Kincardine Scottish Festival & Highland Games has become a tradition in Lakeside Downtown Kincardine,
celebrating its 16th year running in 2015. Celebrate Scottish heritage and culture at historic Victoria Park in the
scenic downtown core from July 3-5, 2015. From the Pipe Bands, to Heavy Events, to Highland Dancing, everyone
in the family will enjoy themselves! Festivities begin on Friday evening, with the Opening Ceremonies kicking off
the evening’s musical entertainment and Kincardine’s own Community Singers performing the national anthem.
Piping in the haggis is a unique experience, while an authentic scotch tasting from Companions of the Quaich
will warm the spirits for the weekend. Saturday’s events feature competitions spread out across historic Victoria
Park. With 30 pipe bands competing, the sounds of Scotland echo across town. Bands are judged and ranked into
grades according to skill. Highland Dancers take the stage with dramatic flings and graceful movements. Dancers are awarded merit for their appearance, position and execution of graceful dance moves. At the Heavy Events,
men and women compete with athleticism. Cabers the size of telephone poles will be tossed, hammers will be
thrown great distances while the athletes will shot-put stones the size of bowling balls. Regalia and food vendors

The Phantom Piper
Most nights from July to Labour
Day, visitors and local alike can bring
in the evening with the soothing
sounds of the bagpipes as the Phantom Piper plays down the sun from
the Kincardine Lighthouse. The pipers are proud members of the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band who donate
their time to perform every year. Pipers start their tunes shortly before
dusk and wrap up shortly after the
sun passes beyond the horizon.

While our summer residents may leave, many more enjoy calling Kincardine home year-round.
Every fall many shoulder-season events usher in the falling of the leaves. The Artful Hands event
brings together over 20 local artists. Remembrance Day is always a significant event to witness
in Kincardine. The Kincardine Theatre Guild is active all season long, adding many much-needed
laughs during the darker days of winter. Leading up to Christmas, the Santa Claus Parade and
Hometown Christmas offer two traditional events to blow away the winter blahs. As the New Year
passes, the community keeps busy with many other events, like the Grand Prix de Kincardine Vintage Snowmobile Races and local winter carnivals. In early spring, the Kincardine Home and Garden Show and Multicultural Day bring in the crowds, and before you know it we’re right back where
we started! Kincardine is a busy place year-round!

Scottish Pipe Band’s
Gathering
ofthe
Bands
The 24th ‘Gathering of the Bands’ is set for August 29 at Victoria Park. What started as a gesture of thanks to
the community from the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band now draws pipe bands and other musical acts from across
Ontario for the 12-hour Mass Pipes and Drums Gathering Festival. Take the day to relax in Victoria Park to the sounds
of over a dozen pipe bands, the Toronto All Star Big Band and various other Celtic entertainers from the Kincardine
Lions gazebo. Over 3,000 people turn out during the noon to midnight event, with even more for the Mass Band
Parade at 8 p.m. The main event sees upwards of 200 pipers and drummers join together as the Mass Band, creating a thunderous, echoing sound as they march throughout the historic downtown. A refreshment tent keeps visitors
satisfied all day long and into the evening. With no admission to enter and only a nominal cost for all-you-can-eat hot
dogs and corn on the cob, it’s a day away that has little cost, but a lot of value. Don’t forget a lawn chair.

Guild
For nearly 30 years the award-winning Kincardine Theatre Guild (KTG) has been delighting audiences from near
and far with its broad range of productions. Each show
demonstrates the talents of many local actors and crew
members that volunteer their time to make each performance a memorable one.
The theatre season runs from September to June and
produces three shows each season. The Guild was born
in 1982 when a small group of residents responded to the
need for live theatre in the community.
KTG is a wholly volunteer, non-profit, fun, community
theatre company run by an elected Board of Directors. It
has since climbed to an award-winning level that is envied
by both professional and semiprofessional theatre groups.

The Bluewater Summer Playhouse is Kincardine’s professional summer theatre group. Each year the organization draws visitors from near
and far to see a line-up of comedies and musicals that split sides and
get toes tapping. The professional acting and performances at Bluewater make it a unique experience for each patron, whether a first-time
theatre-goer or a regular each year. Patrons enjoy shows in a cabaret
setting with refreshments of their choice. The facility is air conditioned
and wheelchair accessible in the newly renovated Kincardine Centre
for the Arts! This summer’s shows will feature 39 Steps (July 9-24),
Walk Like A Man (July 28-30), Born In A Barn (Aug. 4-7) and The Ladies
Foursome (Aug. 13-29) with dates featured inside the event listing. The
Summer Drama Camp will run for two weeks in July, offering young

Inverhuron Beach
Inverhuron Beach, located in the hamlet of
Inverhuron, is sheltered, beautiful and open
to the public. It is accessible by driving west
of Tiverton on Bruce Rd. 15. The area is perfect for swimming, kayaking, bodyboarding,
building sand castles, picnicking or just laying
around, soaking up the sun. Just south of the
river, you can see the remains of the rocks that
once made up a large shipping pier that burned
over a century ago. McIntyre Park is just steps
from the water. Inverhuron Provincial Park and
the skill-testing Inverhuron Mountain Bike Park
are just a short drive north off Albert Street.
Inverhuron Kids Day is a popular event with
sand sculpting and food for guests. The season
wraps up with the Inverhuron Corn Roast and
the Inverhuron Fun Run to close off the summer. This quiet hamlet is a bustling network of
activities, with many summer residents enjoying its natural qualities.

Camping opportunities
The Municipality of Kincardine has a number of camping, hiking and adventure opportunities
for any outdoor enthusiast looking to take in the sights. • Inverhuron Provincial Park reopened
to overnight camping in 2005 after 29 years as a dayuse site. The 750-acre park features 125
electrical sites, a series of trails and a picnic shelter. The park features a beach with protected
dunes, wetlands and a young hardwood forest. The park also has a history, as natives used the
land for thousands of years. In the 1800’s, a small town was located in what is now part of the
provincial park. For info call 519-368-1959 (seasonal). • Brucedale Conservation Area features
lakeside camping north of Tiverton off of Hwy 21 between Bruce Twp. Con. 10 and 12. The campground offers 54 sites for tents and small trailers and 23 seasonal sites that are open May
until Thanksgiving, with 35 electrical sites available. • On the northern border of the municipality of Kincardine sits MacGregor Point Provincial Park. It has 360 campsites and 174 electrical

Conservation in 1977. The property is located approximately 5km north of Kincardine along the
Lake Huron shoreline. Stoney Island contains approximately 6 km of nature trails which welcome public use, be it for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing in winter, or hiking.

Park
Grab a mountain bike and test your might through the Inverhuron
Mountain Bike Park. The adventures begin in May when the 21-acre park
opens for the season. You don’t need to be an experienced mountain
biker as there are trails for beginners to experienced bikers, but check
out the map to get a grasp at what area fits your riding skill. The trails
have various features, dirt jumps, wooden ‘skinnies’ platforms and teeter
totters. It’s mandatory to wear a helmet. Protective equipment is also
recommended. The site is located on the east end of Richards Drive by
Woodland Camp Trailer Park.

Huron Fringe Birding Festival
The Huron Fringe Birding Festival swoops into our northernborder neighbouring MacGregor Point Provincial Park from
May 22-25 and May 28-31, 2015.
Morning activities are filled with guided hikes focusing on
birds, wildflowers, butterflies and insects, in and outside the
park. Afternoons feature additional hikes, workshops on bird
identification and nature photography, plus other natural
interests. Special events include a banquet and guest speaker.
Evening highlights include illustrated programs featuring
excellent presenters and night hikes.

The Kincardine Royal Canadian Legion Branch 183 is a
bustling hub of activity that welcomes all members of the
public to its events. Housed in Ardloch, former home of railroad tycoon and Canadian knight Sir Alexander Mackenzie, the building is a piece of local history. With a renovated
clubhouse, bar, hall, historic museum-like display and welcoming atmosphere, the Legion is a major point of activity

The arts are a valued part of the Municipality of
Kincardine and local artists showcase their work at
the Victoria Park Gallery, located in the newly renovated Kincardine Centre for the Arts. From photography, to paintings, sculptures and artwork from a variety of mediums, the gallery is a place to stop, shop
and come back often. Artists proudly display their
work, with featured artists regularly showcased. The
legendary work of Kincardine’s John H. Scougall can
been seen through his representation of the community in the turn-of-the century photography available. Scougall immortalized the community during the
early days of film, by capturing scenes, emotions and
landscapes that will be viewed for generations.

Surf, Paddleboard and Kiteboarding
Kincardine’s Station Beach is keeping up with
some of Canada’s coastal surf spots and is listed
as one of the top five places in the country to enjoy
various types of surfing and watersports.
Keep in mind, the weather plays a huge part in
the swell size and breaks here, but plan it out online
and you can find yourself with some solid 10-foot
waves. When it’s wavy, surfers flock here and use
social media, like facebook, to coordinate trips. The
Kincardine Lake Huron Fresh Water Classic surfing competition has also had two hugely successful events in Kincardine in late summer, welcoming
international competition to town. Station Beach
notoriety is growing and it’s listed at or near the top
of multiple surfing and watersport websites, as well
as a ‘kitesurfing haven’ - Google it!
Paddleboarders are a common sight on calm
days, or during our beautiful sunsets. Take your
gear down to the south pier stretching out into the
lake along the mouth of the Penetangore River. Last
year ‘Paddle for Purpose’ saw a huge crowd and
raised a chunk of money for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kincardine and District. Keep an eye out for
a date near the end of August.
For all boarders, keep a watchful eye out for the
exposed remains of the Ann Maria, shipwrecked on
the beach south of the pier more than a 100 years
ago. After surfing, enjoy a hot shower at the beach
and then a cold drink at a local restaurant in Lakeside Downtown Kincardine, just minutes away. Give
it a try so you can say you surfed the Great Lakes.

Kincardine Skate Park
The Kincardine Skate Park, located beside the
Davidson Centre, is open from dawn until dusk
and features challenging jumps for skaters, bikers, scooters and roller bladers. Wear a helmet.
Kincardine Teddy Bear Parade
The 21st Kincardine Teddy Bear Parade draws hundreds of children and their families each year, with wagons, bicycles and all methods of transportation suited up with their favourite stuffed bears.
A police escort leads the way from Victoria Park, north on Princes
Street, before returning back on Queen Street so children can show
off their bears to the community. It’s a family event that all ages can
enjoy! This year’s event is June 13, with registration at 9:30 a.m. for
the parade at 10 a.m. Rain date is June 14 at 1 p.m.

The second annual Kincardine Marine Heritage Days festival returns this summer Aug. 21-22, 2015, along
with a visit from the Toronto Brigantine Tall ships, Playfair and Pathfinder on Aug 21. Kincardine is known for
greeting the tall ships’ arrival in style, often with the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band members piping them in. to
port. The historic Kincardine Walker House, a stay-over for weary lake travellers dating back to its construction
in 1850, will feature exhibits, photos and many stories about ships and captains that sailed out of our historic
port over a century and a half. From people carriers, lumber, furniture and fishing vessels, Kincardine played a
major role in the marine history of Lake Huron. The festival captures that historic role through exhibits, tours of
the Kincardine Lighthouse and family events such as a children’s activity zone and artist’s alley.

Chantry Chinook Classic
Get out the fishing gear and get the boat ready for the 32nd Annual Chantry Chinook Classic Salmon
Derby, Saturday July 25 to Sunday August 9. This is Lake Huron’s largest fishing derby with participants
hitting the waters anywhere between Kincardine and Pike Bay. There’s over $125,000 in prizes to be won
during the event. Top salmon nets $15,000, while top trout hooks a $6,000 prize. A junior (youth) $500
prize for largest salmon is available. Other prizes include: second place salmon - $4,000 and third place

Walker House Museum
Located in the heart of the town’s heritage district on Harbour Street, directly
across from the Lighthouse, Walker House is the oldest building in town and the
oldest standing hotel and tavern in Bruce and Grey counties. Built in 1850 by Francis “Paddy” Walker, the building was severely damaged by a fire in 1995. It was purchased in 1998 by the newly established Paddy Walker Heritage Society with a
vision to restore it as a heritage centre. Over the next 10 years hundreds of community volunteers painstakingly donated their skills, labour, materials and dollars
and Walker House proudly re-opened its doors as a museum at the 2008 Old Boys
Reunion. The Walker House Exhibit Committee plans and creates many permanent
and changing historic displays for visitors to enjoy. The Program and Events Committee organizes children’s programmes, arts and craft activities, pub nights and
music presentations throughout the year so our building is always busy.

Thousands flock to Lakeside Downtown Kincardine to see the hundreds of classic and exotic cars, trucks and motorcycles that converge
during the Friday night Cruise Nights that take place on three occasions
throughout the summer. This year the nights sit on June 26, July 31 and
Sept. 4. Shows run 6-9 p.m. There’s always a great selection of rides,
with vendors and draws put on by local merchants. It’s a great opportunity to have photos taken of your vehicle, or take some of the many others from across generations as no classic, custom or unique vehicle is
turned away. Not many communities can boast a lake view site for such
an event, which is one of the main draws for enthusiasts. The show lines

Women’s Triathlon
The 15th Annual Kincardine Women’s Triathlon will welcome women from near and far
to compete for the coveted title. This exciting spectator event takes place July 11 and is
a celebration of a lifestyle for its participants.
The event begins with the piping in of participants, followed by a dash into Lake Huron for
the swimming portion. Athletes then take to
their bicycles for a stretch before rounding off
the triathlon with a run to the finish. The event
begins at 9 a.m. sharp. The race has enough
space for 300 eager athletes, but the event
has already filled up for 2015!

Swing Band Dances
The Kincardine Beach Pavilion will once again feature the sounds of
yesteryear with the return of the Lighthouse Swing Band Dance fundraising nights throughout the summer at the historic building that was
saved from being demolished and later restored through volunteer fundraising and municipal support. Two dances take place this spring, Sundays, May 17 and June 14 from 2-5pm. Thursday dances take place during the summer July 9, July 23, Aug. 13 and Aug. 27 from 7:30-10:30pm

Doors Open Kincardine 2015
Doors Open Kincardine returns to the municipality in 2015, taking place May 23-24. Having moved to a biennial format following our 2013 event, the
event returns with some new sites (along with some repeats), and a team of refreshed volunteers ready to help make this years’ event as successful as
the previous. Launched in 2002 by the Ontario Heritage Trust, Doors Open Ontario is host to many province wide events, as communities invite you to
discover the hidden treasures of their sites – some of which have never before been open to the public. Our doors will be open to various sites throughout the Municipality of Kincardine, including (but not limited to) local heritage homes, buildings of interest such as the Bruce Power Visitors’ Centre
and Bruce Telecom headquarters in Tiverton, as well as area favourites and regular participants of the event, the Kincardine Lighthouse and Paddy
Walker House – again acting as Event Headquarters for the weekend. This free event runs Saturday May 23 from 10am-4pm, and on Sunday May 24
from 1pm-4pm, and there is something for everyone, young and old, of varying interests.

The Municipality of Kincardine shares a neighbourly kinship
with the people of Huron-Kinloss Township in the Village of Ripley, and the shoreline areas leading south to Point Clark. Boiler
Beach is a notable stop on any visit, just south of Kincardine,
where the hulking steel wreck of the Erie Belle’s boiler sits as a
memorial to the four who died, of a crew of 12, when the steamer
exploded while towing the schooner Carter from a sand bar on a
cold day in November, 1883. Across Highway 21 and up Highway
6 takes you to Ripley, where unique shops, restaurants and artisans greet visitors kindly. Check out the splash pad at Lewis Park
or maybe pack a picnic. Stop by Pine River Cheese factory on
Highway 21 for a tour, or to grab some fresh cheese, and support
a local agri-food icon while you’re at it. Down the road further
you’ll end up turning towards the lakeshore and the historic Point
Clark Lighthouse, the just-restored imperial tower and National
Historic Site over 150 years of age. After years of waiting, its restoration is complete and the grand reopening is June 27 at the
Huron Shores Lions Club Canada Day fireworks celebration.

Huron-Kinloss’ Ice Cream Trail was recognized
province-wide with a ‘Best Tourism Marketing Initiative’ award in 2013, and the photo scavenger

The Bruce Botanical Food Gardens
enjoyed a successful 2014 at its site
along the old rail line, off of Ripley’s
Park Street. BBFG won the 2015 Farm
Related Business of the Year Award
from the Kincardine and District Chamber of Commerce Community Awards
after a stellar 2014 with new programs,
growth and expanded community support. With features like the new ‘Ripley Apple’ tree branded through a contest last year, on top of the the BBFG
is a growing ‘agri-tourism’ business in
Huron-Kinloss. Phase 1 of its development showcases over 250 varieties of
rare, endangered, heirloom and world
food plants - over 10,000 plants in all.
Considered still in its ‘birthing’ stage,
the BBFG is looking for support for both
its food security-establishing goals,
as well as its ability to draw visitors to
the Village of Ripley to see what the
‘uniquely Canadian’ garden is all about.
The volunteer-run operation is open
June to October, with entry by donation. No pets, because it’s a food operation, but they are welcome at the Apple
Rail Trail and Lewis Trail nearby.

Thousands of Old Boys and Girls will get reacquainted with their hometown during Ripley’s
2015 Reunion. The ‘All Roads Lead Home’ event,
which runs July 30-Aug. 3, promises to be a weekend full of activities, dances, food and fun.
It all starts on Thursday, July 30, with the
Ambassador Pageant, which takes place at the
Ripley-Huron Community Centre. A teen dance
will also be held Thursday night. On Friday, July 31,
the Reunion golf tournament will be held at Ainsdale Golf Course, with a shotgun start at 11 a.m.
Call the golf course to book your team as space
is limited. New at this Reunion is a more spacious
location for our dances and beer garden, which
will all be held in the arena parking lot, starting
with Friday night’s dance featuring Blackwater
Draw. Tickets are $20 and age of majority applies.
Saturday kicks off with the Back to School and
Registration events, which lead into the mammoth
parade at 11:30 a.m., which will come into town
from the east and down Queen Street, finishing
in the arena parking lot. The parade will run about
two hours and feature numerous bands (both pipe
and brass), family floats, heavy horses, kids, businesses and so much more. Register your float by

the form. Opening ceremonies and the traditional
tug-of-war competition will follow. The night will
be capped off with a dance featuring the Lulu’s
Roadhouse Band ($20 entry, age of majority).
Sunday is a day packed full of activities, including
the interdenominational church service, Ripley’s
Amazing Race, the Beer Garden Olympics, co-ed
outdoor volleyball tournament, BMX skills show,
and much more. Sunday culminates with the free
Shirt Tail dance, which will be an age of majority
event inside the beer garden/dance area (regular
liquor rules apply), and featuring local band Crazymaker. Monday’s events start in the afternoon
with the bed races at 1 p.m. through the downtown
core. Read the rules and register at www.ripleyreunion.ca. After the bed races, rush to the beer gardens for the fantastic beard growing contest (sign
up on our website) and an afternoon and evening
of music with Left Turn Clyde and the Brad James
Band, the latter of which played at the kick-off
dance in May 2014. The Reunion will be capped off
by a stunning fireworks display near the baseball
diamond at dusk. The Reunion committee will be
opening its downtown storefront this spring. It will
feature historical displays, bunting for purchase,
the updated Families and Farms History Book,
dance and meal tickets, and our outstanding line
of Reunion merchandise.

Off-leash Dog Park
Does your pooch need to burn some energy and socialize with resident
dogs during your Kincardine vacation? The KinDOG Off-Leash Dog Park was
built in 2009 and offers a fully fenced off park with approximately two acres
of open fields and wooded areas. The area is the perfect place to let your
dogs unwind and exercise in a controlled area. To find it, follow Queen Street
south from downtown, turn left at the end of Queen onto Bruce Avenue. The
park is located on the right after the cemetery. The parking lot is located
next to soccer fields and baseball diamond. Please remember to clean up
after your dog and obey posted rules on the sign. Have fun!

Gun Club Open House
The Kincardine Nimrod Club Open house on June 13 will showcase
examples of hunting and archery at the facility on on Aintree Road,
east of Lake Range in Huron-Kinloss. Watch demonstrations of: Cowboy
Action and Soldiers of 1812. Try your hand at various rifles, black powder guns, and handguns under the direct safety supervision of qualified
members. Young and old, all are welcome. Enjoy a BBQ prepared by 4-H
Club. Come and see what it’s all about!

Kincardine’s local golf courses will test the skill of any
player, experienced or not. So lace up those shoes and
toss the clubs in the trunk and take your pick of four great
golf courses. • Ainsdale Golf Course is a popular course
with tourists and residents alike, located south of Kincardine on Hwy. 21.The 18 holes lie on scenic, rolling terrain on
the shores of Lake Huron and measures 6442 yards, long
enough to challenge the best golfers. The large number
of water and sand hazards in play throughout the course
makes sure that things always stay interesting. Whether
you’re up for a round of 9 holes, or 18,Ainsdale meets your
needs. • Ainsdale’s sister course - Somerhill Golf Course, is
located north of Kincardine and is again a popular course
among residents and tourists alike. This course offers 9
holes with some wonderful views during your round. The
course measures 5,700 yards.The large number of water
hazards in play throughout the course makes sure that
things always stay interesting.

Country Club and BlackHorse Golf Club.
Sunday Sing alongs & Music in the Park
Kincardine’s lakeside Dunsmoor Park offers opportunities for family fun
two days of the week, all summer long. Located by the beach around the
bend from Lambton and Durham streets, the park is named after the late
Norm Dunsmoor, a multiple Citizen of the Year winner, an avid singer, veteran of the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band for over 52 years, and a regular
performer at the Sing Alongs over the years, with his wife Norma. Wednesday’s Music in the Park during July offers an instrumental music treat with
a different band every week. The Sunday Night Sing Alongs from July 8 until
Labour Day weekend are a light-hearted way to enjoy the sunset, so bring a
lawn chair and enjoy the show. Singing and music start at 7:30p.m.
