Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to Term 4 and the beginning of Spring and daylight saving.
The term ahead is a full one with the HSC students starting their final examinations on
Monday the 12th October. The holidays for these students have been a study break and I
thank all the Year 12 teachers who have been meeting students for tutorials and giving
feedback via email to essays and past papers that students have been submitting during
this period. We wish all these students a calm examination period where they can perform
at their optimum.
Many other activities occurred during the holidays:

The Dance Department has received great news that our Junior Dance Company
were accepted into the first Independent Schools’ Dance Festival and performed at
Inuburra High School, who hosted the event.

Ms. Collier Walsh also received confirmation that all six of her HSC Dance students
have been nominated for Callback. This is the showcase of exemplary performances and compositions by HSC students of Dance. Performances of Callback have
provided valuable demonstrations of HSC standards to students and teachers of
Dance since 1993. This is a great achievement because of the possible 18 categories, for which these six could have been nominated, Reddam received fifteen nominations. Well done, this is another very proud moment for Dance at Reddam.


We are pleased to announce that Luc Siboulet has been selected to join The Sound of Music Production as Kurt. This is a significant achievement as the audition process was extremely
rigorous. Congratulations Luc.

Yonatan Freund won a silver medal competing for Australia in the U-14s at the Commonwealth Karate Championships in Delhi, India. Over 600 participants from over 20 countries
were there with 24 athletes chosen to represent Australia. This is the first time Yonatan has
represented Australia at an international event and a fantastic achievement in coming second.


The thirty three students returned from Nicaragua and Costa Rica where they spent time
building and completing three classrooms for a community school, witnessing turtles emerging from the sea, laying their eggs and returning to the sea in a turtle sanctuary, and trekking
up three active volcanoes. The students and teachers who accompanied them have not
stopped raving about their experiences. Many have said the three weeks include some of
the best days they have ever experienced. Wow!!

Anthea Kasses was awarded the Abbey Borgia award by Sydney Comets basketball. Anthea
plays rep basketball for Sydney Comets and out of the 20 girls in Anthea's age group she was
chosen to receive this memorial award. Abbey Borgia was killed in the Bali Bombings along
with her mother. At the time, Abbey played for Sydney Comets in the same group as Anthea.
Abbey’s father returns each year to the Comets presentation night to present the
award. Anthea's current Reddam basketball coach Jaimee Cohen also won this award when
she was in the same age group.

In the last week of Term 3, Emily Wang in Year 7 entered the United Nations Voice Public
Speaking Competition. Emily researched her topic of “Gender Inequality” extensively and performed admirably on the day. During the holidays, we received the exciting news that she has
progressed to the Semi-Finals of this competition.

Mr. Fenner took five Year 9 students on a Duke of Edinburgh expedition into the Royal National Park and the beauty and splendour of the surroundings made the trip so much more memorable.
Have a good week.

DANCE NEWS
During the holidays our Junior Company stayed busy representing Reddam House at the first ever
Independent Schools Dance Festival held at Bangor. Our amazing students spent the day rehearsing and dancing with students from 10 other Independent schools from all over NSW and performed that evening in a beautiful showcase of Dance ranging in styles from Jazz to Contemporary. It was such a fun day, which also included a Contemporary Dance workshop with the very
talented Eden Petrovski from SYTYCD Australia. I'm so proud of how talented our kids are and of
what a lovely, professional ensemble they are becoming. It was clear to me that our students are
filled with potential in the Dance industry and it was a pleasure spending the day together.
Students involved in the event were:
Avital Greenberg
Sunday Jones-Evans
Adina Herz
Caitlin Robinson
Charlotte Brinkworth
Natasha Carroll
Mckenzie Phillips
Rubi Carr
Thea Phillips
Paris Spennato
Elise Turco
In other exciting news, we have received notification that ALL of our incredible HSC Dance students have received Callback nominations for their practical work!!!!! Callback is a highly prestigious event that showcases the best of the best practical HSC examination works seen throughout
all of NSW. I'm very pleased and immensely proud to be able to say that this year's cohort of dancers at Reddam House have received together a total of 15 out of a possible 18 nominations. This is
a truly outstanding result and testament to the talent and hard work shown by our beautiful students. Bravo, Girls - this is well deserved by each and every one of you!

PUBLIC SPEAKING SUCCESS
In the last week of Term 3, Emily Wang in Year 7 entered the United Nations Voice Public Speaking
Competition. She was given a choice of topics requiring her to discuss a global problem and provide creative solutions. She was then asked impromptu questions on the subject.
Emily researched her topic of “Gender Inequality” extensively and performed admirably on the
day. During the holidays, we received the exciting news that she has progressed to the Semi-Finals
of this competition.
Thank you very much for your enthusiastic participation in the preliminary rounds of the 2015 Voice
Public Speaking Competition. It was a phenomenal competition and all the judges were very impressed with every participant.
However, CONGRATULATIONS are in order as you have been selected to attend the NSW State
Semi-Finals for the 2015 Voice Competition for your brilliant speech, well-thought out solution and
speaking ability.
We wish Emily all the best for the future round of this competition.
