IMI completes public
offering of shares
Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc, one of the leading providers of electronics
manufacturing services (EMS) in the world, completed its public offering on the
Philippine Stock Exchange on December 5. “We’re very proud to have completed our offer successfully, especially with strong
interest and support from the investment community,” said IMI President and CEO
Arthur Tan.
The company listed 215,000,000 common shares at an offer price of P7.50 per share.
IMI intends to use the net proceeds from the offer for capital expenditure, business
expansion, refinancing of debt and general corporate purposes.
IMI Chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala said, “IMI has come a long way since
its listing by way of introduction in 2010. In the past four years, its operations and
revenues have steadily increased, boosting its position as a global manufacturing pillar
for the Ayala group.” Tan added that the company is now focused on high-growth, nontraditional products “with high-quality requirements and opportunities for customization such as
those found in automotive, telecommunications infrastructure, industrial, and medical electronics markets.”
IMI earlier reported that its nine-month revenues expanded 19 percent to $650.1 million, resulting in a surge in the nine-month net income to $21.0 million in 2014.
BPI Capital Corporation served as the book runner, issue manager and lead underwriter for the public offer, with Investment & Capital Corporation of the
Philippines and SB Capital Investment Corporation as participating underwriters.

Kobe on the
Globe GEN3 experience
The new stores opened simultaneously in SM North EDSA and in Limketkai Mall in Cagayan de Oro City
on December 15, led in Manila by JAZA, Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu, SingTel Group CEO Chua Sock
Koong, and SMM EDD Corporation Vice President Hans Sy Jr.
Eight Inc is a strategic design firm known
Said Cu, “Globe is proud to bring to Filipino consumers another world-standard differentiated experience. Our
passion for our customers inspires us to end the year on a high note by bringing innovation a notch higher in
our stores, one of our key customer touch points, allowing us to truly empower our customers’ digital lifestyles.”
among others. Tim Kobe shares his design
Delighting customers, fueling passion
The Globe GEN3 Stores are all about interaction. There are distinct lifestyle zones for customers to
experience and enjoy. The latest mobile and broadband devices and apps are presented not simply as
products but as connected solutions that support a complete digital lifestyle.
Customers looking to buy a gadget, choose a plan, or pay a bill, will find many ways to complete their
transaction. There are self-service tools, video hotlines with customer representatives, a Play Bar where
customers can be guided by store staff on how to use a device or app, and interactive product displays.

“Design and great user experience
is a core strength at Globe. It means
the things that matter to you are
things that matter to Globe.
Retail is one touch point where
brands build relationships and sell
products and services. It is important
today to have a place to demonstrate
what you stand for.
Globe senior leaders and partners with Tim Kobe (fifth from left) and JAZA tour the new Globe GEN3 store; Ernest Cu
tries the customer video hotline; Ross Capilli and other visual artists lend a creative touch to the simultaneous launches
in Quezon City and Cagayan de Oro City
Explained Joe Caliro, head of Retail Transformation and Management: “The concept and design of the
GEN3 Stores have undergone intense research and consultation with the world’s top-notch designers and
architecture experts. We are inviting customers to explore and be inspired by the stores’ four zones—
music, entertainment, productivity, and life—so they can fully enjoy a wonderful world.”
The Globe GEN3 Stores seek to further engage and delight customers by fueling their passion in these four
areas. Vignettes of people who are blazing new trails in their respective art, community, and technology
spaces are shared. For the first quarter of 2015, with music as the main theme, Globe GEN3 will feature
four of the coolest DJs of this generation: DJ Badkiss, Callum David, Mars Miranda, and Eric Capilli.
“Black Box” inspired
As inspiration, Kobe mentioned the “black box,” a theatrical reference to a flexible space for inspiring
people’s imagination. “We know that this meant it could not be like any other telecom store. This meant we
needed to create a communications space where storytelling was a core attribute of the experience. It was
a fundamental shift from traditional retail presentations of products and services to stories of what I can
do, dream about, and create with technology,” said Kobe.
Leading up to the launch of its GEN3 stores, Globe collaborated with homegrown talent to take part
in its biggest retail transformation project. Led by multi-awarded artist Ross Capili, the artists turned
their design inspirations into live art galleries that showcased murals exhibiting Globe’s brilliant vision,
complementing the look, feel, and experience of its GEN3 Stores.
In 2015, Globe will change more of its existing stores into GEN3 Stores to bring this unique and gamechanging retail experience to more Filipinos.
The new Globe experience is
a paradigm shift for
telecommunications companies.
The space is dynamic... There
will still be a service point. You
come in and if you want to make a
transaction, you log in and enjoy the
space and explore things. We’ve taken
away the lines.
I see Globe as becoming more
essential to its customers by
becoming closer and more relevant.
If you can connect with people with a
meaningful story, you engage them.
If we’re being generous with helping
people be successful, the respect and
love for the brand will continue to grow.
We really want to empower people.”

Alviera to create
new growth hub
in Central Luzon
Alviera, a new 1,125-hectare masterplanned community launched in
September, is envisioned to catapult
Porac, Pampanga as the new
growth center and a major hub for
commercial and business activity in
Central Luzon.
Jointly developed by Ayala Land and
Leonio Land, Alviera is their first
large-scale estate development in the
region. The first phase will include a
PEZA-registered industrial park, two
universities, residential communities, and a country club. It will entail an investment of P8 billion over three
years and will generate about 5,000 new jobs as it begins development.
Over the next 20 years, Alviera will enhance quality of living in the region by creating a community with
about 20,000 office and industrial workers, 65,000 residents, and 20,000 students.
Local businesses with products for export have already expressed interest in locating to the 30-hectare
Alviera Industrial Park. Moreover, all three residential brands—Ayala Land Premier, Alveo Land, and Avida
Land—will develop communities for their specific markets. Holy Angel University, Pampanga’s largest
university, and Miriam College will be the first educational institutions in Alviera. There will also be a mall,
office buildings, hotel, hospital, transport terminal, and parks later in the development.
Explains Meean Dy, head of Strategic Landbank Management: “We are known for creating communities
that become thriving economic centers in their respective regions. These growth centers serve as platforms for
our various product offerings, integrating into thriving communities that generate value over time.”
Ayala Auto opens three new
showrooms in the Visayas
Ayala Automotive Holdings Corporation celebrated
triple milestones in growing its network of dealerships
in the Visayas region.
In early 2014, Honda Cars Cebu welcomed customers
to its new home in the North Reclamation Area of
Cebu City. The new dealership has improved and larger
facilities, including state-of-the-art service areas.
Isuzu Cebu Inc opened its newly reconstructed
showroom in Tagbilaran City, Bohol on September
25, with the all-new Isuzu MU-X leading its fleet. The
opening of the showroom, which coincided with the
branch’s sixth anniversary, was the latest business
development of the Ayala group to help spur economic
activity in Bohol a year after the earthquake.
Then on September 26, Iconic Dealership Inc inaugurated its flagship Volkswagen showroom in the Visayas.
Volkswagen Cebu is also located in Cebu City’s North Reclamation Area, a rising commercial and business
district. The event also introduced the much-anticipated VW Golf GTI.
“Cebu has always been cosmopolitan and at the forefront of innovation. Hence, it only makes sense that we
open our second dealership in the automotive row of Cebu City. Not only will it cater to discerning Cebuanos, it
will also serve as the hub for the entire Visayas region,” said Ayala Auto Chairman and President JP Orbeta.
Ayala and Mitsubishi Corporation celebrate
40 years of partnership
In 1974, Ayala Corporation and Mitsubishi Corporation—two respected conglomerates with a long history
of contributing to the development of their country’s economies—agreed to jointly explore investment
opportunities in the Philippines. The business relationship they started would be strengthened over time,
leading to successful investments in automotive dealerships, industrial estate development, electronics
manufacturing, and water infrastructure, among others.
As the business relationship and the cultural affinity grew stronger, this partnership has become an enduring
corporate kinship.
In 2014, as Ayala commemorated its 180th year, the two conglomerates marked the 40th year of their
cooperation, celebrating the occasion in November in Tokyo, Japan.

For 180 years, Ayala’s investments have spurred the growth of Philippine industries as well as

Said JAZA: “We, as businesses, need to collaborate and work across sectors to define where we
can carve out unique strengths and capabilities that will allow us to thrive in an increasingly
interconnected and interdependent world. All of this becomes next to impossible without an
educated, progressive society that can work efficiently, live comfortably in safety and peace, and

clear commitment to the social and civic responsibilities of their community.
Ayala Land President Bobby O. Dy
received the award on October 16 in
Singapore.
“The Ayala story is close to two centuries old, and is both fascinating and impressive,” said IMD
President Dominique Turpin. “Over seven generations, this company has provided numerous lessons
for other family businesses to learn from, in particular the importance of long-term vision, a broader
social awareness and an ability to adapt. I warmly congratulate Ayala on winning this year’s award.”
Thierry Lombard, FBN-I chairman and managing partner of the Lombard Odier Group noted, “This
award highlights the vital contribution that family businesses like Ayala make to the global economy.
We want to recognize an outstanding company operating according to the very best practices and
offering inspiration to its peers. Ayala’s exceptional standards show just what family businesses are
capable of.”
FZA, together with several sisters and their spouses were present in Dubai to receive the award. In a
joint statement on behalf of the family, JAZA and FZA said: “We are absolutely delighted and honored
to be the recipients of the IMD-Lombard Odier Global Family Business Award for 2014. As we celebrate
our 180th anniversary this year, we share this award with the many generations of exceptional
executives, board members, and family members that have led the company over the years.”

Ayala Beats @ 180
Employees and executives from the Ayala group gathered at Ayala
Triangle Gardens on December 5 to celebrate Ayala’s 180th founding
anniversary with a grand Christmas party.
Called Ayala Beats @ 180, the event featured thematic dance and
musical presentations by Ayala companies celebrating the historical eras
throughout which Ayala has helped shaped the nation. The last time the
entire Ayala group gathered to celebrate Christmas was in 1976.
Employees enjoyed the streetdance competition, the awarding of
the 2014 JZA Cup to Ayala Land, interactive exhibits including a giant
Christmas card from Ayala Corporation Chairman Emeritus Jaime Zobel
de Ayala, game booths as well as a Mercato-style food park using a
commemorative debit card. JAZA, FZA, and Ayala group CEOs presented
the major raffle prizes to winning employees.
The program closed with a rendition of “Sigaw Ayala”, the winning entry of
BPI’s Bas Cadelina in the search for an Ayala hymn and sung by a choir of
180 employees from across the group.

Sparking
innovation
in Ayala
Ignite curiosity and different thinking. Incite
discourse and debate. Inspire long-term
vision. Kindle new collaborations. Create new
possibilities. With these goals in mind, nearly
200 executives from Ayala companies gathered
for the conglomerate’s first Innovation Day held
August 18 at the Mind Museum.
Called “Spark*”, the event also kicked off a
yearlong series of activities aimed at fostering
innovation in the group.
Ayala group CEOs discussed how they perceived
disruption in their industries, and how they plan to
respond. Participants listened to and engaged in
discussions with innovation thought leaders and
practitioners. Experts from Innosight explained
the findings of the Disruptive Change Readiness
Study. Start-up founders of Kickstart discussed
how they innovate very quickly.
Peers in BPI, Globe, and Manila Water shared how
challenging—but also how necessary—it is to
innovate even among successful companies. Ideas
from participants were welcomed via post-it notes
on the “Ayala Future Wall.”

Sustainability Summit focuses
on creating shared value
The Ayala group held its 4th Sustainability Summit on October 13
at InterContinental Manila, with close to 300 officers from all
of Ayala’s line of business, led by their CEOs, CFOs, and Chief
Risk Officers.
The 2014 summit featured a panel discussion with Ayala group
CEOs and talks by Incite South Africa Director Nicola Robins,
Nielsen Philippines Executive Director Carole Ann Sarthou,
and Unilever Philippines Chairman and CEO Rohit Jawa.
The event launched Ayala’s 5th sustainability report, which
introduces the 360º Sustainability Framework to shape the
group’s business and sustainability agenda. The 2013 report is
the first conglomerate report in the Philippines to use the Global
Reporting Initiative G4 framework.
As part of the summit, a My Fair Share bazaar was once again
organized in support of community partners of Ayala companies.
Globe also collected electronic wastes such as cellphones,
batteries, and chargers as part of its Project 1 Phone, a recycling
program that also aims to rebuild schools in Aklan.

Idea’Yala brings innovative
mall ideas to life
Idea’Yala, Ayala Malls’ inspiring new competition, reached its peak on October 24
when its final five teams of young innovators went to Anvaya Cove to present
their final pitches to a panel of industry experts.
Of the 175 teams that applied, Team “Barkadayala,” composed of five students
from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, emerged as the winner. Their
concept was a customer-service tool that will make the mall experience livelier,
more efficient, and more meaningful for the youth.
Created by Ayala Malls and co-founded by Paloma U. Zobel, Idea’Yala invited
young individuals in the Philippines to develop design concepts that will define
the “mall of the future”—one that is sustainable, market inclusive, and with the
potential to address social and environmental concerns.
The competition, launched September 9 at the Glorietta Activity Center, challenged
the youth to imagine innovative mall experiences that go beyond established
business or market assumptions, and turn them into viable entrepreneurial
and design solutions. These could be in the form of mall enhancements such as
new concepts for retail, dining, and entertainment, or ideas for sustainable mall
development that Ayala Malls can then implement.
Mentoring was an important aspect of the competition. Shortlisted teams
participated in workshops with young mavericks Dan Matutina, Tal de Guzman,
Anne Enriquez and Louie Poco, Katrina Razon, Atom Araullo, and Carlo Katigbak.
Other speakers and mentors were Ayala’s corporate strategy associates Mariana
Zobel and Jaime Urquijo, TED Talks fellow Juliette LeMontagne, Google’s Alex de Leon,
Samsung’s Chris Concepcion, TBWA’s Melvin Mangada, Kickstarter’s Christian Besler
and Patch Dulay. VJ and actor Robi Domingo and volleyball star Gretchen Ho joined
them during the caravans’ series of pep talks.

Make the best happen with BPI
“Our country is beginning to generate the kind of economic momentum
that should better people’s lives. For our clients, it’s no longer about
access to financial services; it’s about using that access to make the
kinds of financial decisions that improve and enrich their lives,” said BPI
President and CEO Bong Consing to BPI Unibankers at the launch of the
bank’s new marketing campaign in March.
“When you change the way you think about money, you can get the
best out of life,” he said, emphasizing BPI’s new brand promise. He then
asked employees to live out this promise in their everyday transactions
and lives: “This tagline defines us as an institution. I ask you to give life
to our new tagline. Working together, we will make the best happen.”
Recognizing its role in economic growth and nation building, BPI aims
to inspire Filipinos to achieve their dreams by changing their attitudes
and decisions regarding money. The bank is ready to enable them with
various products from saving accounts and investment funds to credit
cards and loans, as well as services such as the Express Mobile App and
Bank Anywhere.
With this new mindset and superior solutions, financial advice, and
first-rate customer experience, BPI is poised to lead as the Philippine
Banking Champion and be a catalyst for people to make positive
changes in life.

Project Wonderful:
Bayanihan in the time
of social media
Harnessing the power of digital media and Filipinos’ inherent desire to help
their fellowmen, Globe has raised over P50 million in cash and in kind to help
build homes and school buildings and provide livelihood opportunities to
families affected by Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda.
Under Project Wonderful, Globe’s corporate response to the devastation
caused by the supertyphoon, digital lifestyle products and services were used
by customers to donate time, finances, and talent towards rebuilding the nation.
Globe developed compelling, documentary-style YouTube videos that
recounted the stories of Globe ambassadors Bamboo, Georgina Wilson,
Liz Uy, and Chieffy Caligdong as they helped deliver 2,000 Christmas toys to
kids in Ormoc, build 100 homes for Ormoc families, and distribute almost
1,000 learning kits to Iloilo schoolchildren.
Likewise, using the hashtag #ProjectWonderful on social media and blogs,
Globe spurred Filipinos from various walks of life to voice hopes and wishes
for the country and encourage them to donate or even volunteer.
The campaign received 779,239 combined YouTube views, 306 million
impressions from 112,588 mentions by Twitter and Instagram users, 136
unique blogger stories, and an average of 50,000 unique visits to
www.ProjectWonderful.ph per month for the first quarter of 2014. All these
resulted in over 1,000 registered volunteers and supporters.
Its impact has not gone unnoticed. In December, Project Wonderful won in
the 9th ARAW Values Awards of the Advertising Foundation of the Philippines,
for use of digital media in promoting and inculcating positive values for social
change and nation building.

Marikina, Pasig, and Quezon City), with plans to build more.
At the official launch of the venture held May 15 at Ayala Museum,
FZA said, “The global demand for Filipino talent is proof that one of
the Philippines’ greatest resources is its people. Ayala believes that
investment in education is key to securing national competitiveness, and
every Filipino’s future. Our vision is to provide affordable, world-quality
education that can allow every student to achieve his or her full potential.”
Added APEC Chairman Fred Ayala: “Our aim is to transform and

Ayala Corporation, Ayala Land, BPI, and Globe
showed marketing synergy as the group
celebrated One Ayala on its fourth consecutive
year. Thousands of Filipinos gathered on
December 7 at Edinburgh Place in Central Hong
Kong to experience the “Paskong Pinoy Fiesta.”
One Ayala is the international marketing synergy
program of the Ayala group. It is a way of raising
awareness for its products and services while
promoting Filipino heritage, history, culture, and
financial literacy in the international market and
reaching out to Filipinos abroad.
The event featured booths of various
organizations of Filipino migrant workers that
were adorned with their creative handiwork of
Christmas decorations. The Consulate General
of the Philippines in Hong Kong Bernardita Catalla
spoke of the importance of keeping Filipino values
alive while working in other countries.
Amaia, BPI, and Globe promoted products
and services that address the needs of
overseas Filipinos. Amaia featured its property
investments. This was complemented by BPI’s
financial literacy talk and remittance services.
Globe, through its local telecom partner CSL,
provided free call services to the Philippines as
well as free power banks.

A new school for Old Sagay
The Old Sagay Elementary School, destroyed by Typhoon Yolanda, is
now a disaster-resilient learning environment thanks to the support
of the private sector and local government. Its two new buildings are
equipped with emergency alarm systems, kitchens, and showers. It can
withstand over 300 kph of wind.
Building resilient schools, such as this one in Negros Occidental, is a
component of Ayala Foundation’s integrated approach to post-disaster
recovery and rehabilitation. It also brings Text2Teach and Training
Institute programs to improve learning and upgrade teacher skills.
Another component is sustainable livelihood. Fishing boats and seeds
for farming have been distributed in Sagay and Cadiz, respectively.

Ayala Museum
invites everyone to
“Inspire Every Day”
Art and history have the power to inspire and motivate people
to do and see things differently.
Ayala Museum and Filipinas Heritage Library’s “Inspire Every
Day” campaign has been presenting special events and using
their special collections to tell stories of creativity, strength,
courage, pride, curiosity and other universal values.
The campaign was launched on July 19, with Ayala Museum
opening its doors to the public for free. By midday, a queue
had formed outside the museum as the building reached its
maximum capacity. Aside from enjoying the galleries and the
new library, visitors made creative use of products from partner
merchants such as Fully Booked, Power Mac Center, and Uniqlo
at their respective “inspire stations.”
Several musical acts also performed during the day including
the Manila Symphony Orchestra, artists of Terno Recordings,
and Up Dharma Down. Guests were given free soda provided
by Coca Cola Philippines as souvenir.
Ayala Museum also saw a significant spike in social media
activity as users engaged with “Inspire Every Day”-related
posts or created their own.
Other activities soon followed suit including “Midnight Museum,”
an evening Halloween event in partnership with the Japan
Foundation, theatre company Sipat Lawin, and Museum Café.
Similar events will be done in 2015 to inspire more people and
open their minds about museums, libraries, and cultural
institutions as places where one can gain life lessons through art
and history.
FHL and Google present online history of Baguio
In September, Filipinas Heritage Library joined Ayala Museum in becoming the first cultural institutions
from the Philippines to partner with Google Cultural Institute. Through its online exhibit on the GCI
site, “We look before and after, and pine for what is not: A history of Pines Hotel and Baguio,” FHL
made some of its collections free and accessible to the public.
The Google Site hosts exhibits and features collections from museums and archives from
around the world. Other partner libraries include the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, the
Vaclav Havel Library in Czech Republic, the Kyoto Prefectural Library and Archives, the Library of
Birmingham in the UK, the National Library of Ireland, the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library
in India, and the Royal Library of Denmark. Exhibits cover biographical profiles, geographic
histories, and narratives of historical events. Each high-resolution item in the exhibits can be
viewed in detail.
“We look before and after” talks about the Pines Hotel, an iconic landmark whose history is closely
intertwined with that of Baguio City. The site of the Pines Hotel was originally that of the Baguio
Sanitarium, arguably the most popular colonial hill station built by the Americans in Asia.
The exhibit is only the first that FHL plans to curate and upload on Google Cultural Institute site.

Cesar Legaspi, KARGADOR (detail, 1982). Oil on canvas. 121.5 x 183 cm. Paulino and Hetty Que Collection.
Cesar Legaspi: The Brave Modern
In the halcyon and heady days in pre-war Philippines, a group of young artists were paving the way
to a brave new world of modern art. Learning from the acknowledged Father of Modern Art, Victorio
Edades, the young artists, who called themselves the Thirteen Moderns, were eager to find new ways
of visual expression. Among them was Cesar Legaspi.
The work of Cesar Legaspi shows the progression and development of Philippine painting in
the twentieth century—from the rigorous intellectualism of Cubism in his early paintings to the
harmonious unity of stylized figuration and tropical chromaticism at the peak of Neo-Realism.
His fragmented pictorial style, intense color, and stark social commentary contributed significantly to
the acceptance of Philippine modern art, earning his place in the pantheon of Filipino National Artists.
“Cesar Legaspi: The Brave Modern” runs from December 2, 2014 to April 26, 2015 at the Third Floor
Galleries of Ayala Museum. The exhibition includes the artist’s works from the pre-war period to the
1980s, including select paintings from various collections.
