L
ast month we made a Valentine cake set on a draped table. If
you looked closely, you may have noticed a greeting card
formed the background and base for the setting. Here’s how
to create a birthday card “room” as a gift for someone special, or
make a keepsake for yourself using a special card you have
received.
Walls
1. Cut the colored cardstock
so it is a little
larger than the
dimensions of
the inside left
page plus the
inside right
page of your
greeting card.
2. Lay the
greeting card
face down. Run
glue stick all
around the
back of front
page and back
of inside left
page (Fig. 1).
3. Put the edge
of the cardstock at the
fold between
these two

pages. Close

stock. The cardstock will be
glued between the front page
and the inside left page. It
will stick out beyond the
back of the inside right page
(Fig. 2).

4. Crease the cardstock over
the fold between inside
pages. Spread glue around
back edges of inside right
page (the bar code side).
Hold right page at a 90degree angle from the left
page and glue the cardstock
to it (Fig. 2).
5. Trim cardstock to edges of
printed card. The extra cardstock makes the card sturdier
and covers the bar code side
of the greeting card. If you
wish, put your own artwork
on this plain side, or use a
glue stick to add a photograph.
6. If this will be a gift, sign
the card before you attach
the floor.
Floor
1. Stand the card upright. Cut
a square “pocket” from a
bottom corner of the envelope so that it will fit the
inside corner of the standing
card (Fig. 3).

this “pocket.” Glue them
together. Put cardboard in
the “pocket” and glue the cut
edges of the “pocket” to the
cardboard.

3. Run a thin line of white
glue around the cut edges of
this floor. With the floor flat
on your work surface, push
floor into the corner of your
standing card and hold it
tight against the floor until
the glue sets up (Fig. 4).
