Please see the housing information for approximate travel times between your housing and IPSB
College. Google provides an excellent trip planner whether you are traveling by car, bus, on foot
or by bike. You can visit their site at: https://www.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&f=d&dirflg=r

OPT - SEVP Policy Guidance 1004-03 Update to Optional Practical Training
A copy of the full guidelines may be found at http://www.ice.gov/doclib/sevis/pdf/
opt_policy_guidance_042010.pdf
3. GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT OPT AND THE CAP GAP
1.
3.1. What is OPT?
OPT is training that is directly related to an F-1 student’s major area of study. It is intended to
provide a student with practical experience in his or her field of study during or upon completion
of a degree program.
2.
3.2. Who is eligible for OPT?
An F-1 student who has attended an SEVP-certified college, university, conservatory, or seminary
on a full-time basis for at least one academic year may be authorized for up to 12 months of OPT
per education level. However, F-1 students who have one year or more of full-time curricular
practical training are not eligible for OPT for that degree.
3.
3.2.1. Pre-completion OPT
Pre-completion OPT is OPT authorized to be engaged in before the student’s program end date.
Students with approved pre-completion OPT may work up to 20 hours per week while school is in
session. Students who are eligible to register for the next term and who plan to do so may have
approval to work full time when school is not in session.
4.
3.2.2. Post-completion OPT
Post-completion OPT is OPT authorized to be engaged in after the student’s program end date.
Welcome!
International Students
to IPSB College.
Live Scan
Live scan fingerprinting refers to both the technique and the technology used by law enforcement
agencies and private facilities to capture fingerprints and palm prints electronically, without the
need for the more traditional method of ink and paper. All massage therapists, including US
citizens are required to have their fingerprints recorded. International Students must meet
additional requirements before being fingerprinted through Live Scan.
1) Live Scan or fingerprinting is required for those students who wish to work as a massage therapist in
the City of San Diego and in the state of California
2) Students will need to complete 500 hours of schooling before Live Scan
3) It is recommended that students apply for the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) Massage
Therapy License AND obtain their Live Scan at the same time.
Welcome!
International Students
to IPSB College.
Massage Certification
There are a variety of ways to become certified and or to obtain licensing to practice massage
therapy in San Diego.
Each city in San Diego County has different rules and permits for licensing. Most cities require
national certification through the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and
Bodywork (NCBTMB) and a massage permit or license. The NCBTMB requires:
• Pass the Board Certification exam (The exam may be taken twice within a six-month
period, with a 45-day wait between sittings.)
• $250 for new applicants
• $225 for applicants who have taken an NCBTMB test for state licensure
• Complete a minimum of 750 hours of education
• Complete 250 hours of professional hands-on experience over no less than six months
from graduation
• Pass a thorough national background check
• Obtain a current CPR certification
• Affirm their commitment to the NCBTMB Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics
• Commit to opposing Human Trafficking
If students wish to work at several locations, do not know the city they wish to work in, or want
certification which allows them to work anywhere in the state of California, the best certification
is through the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC). CAMTC requires:
• Download Application.
• Send Transcripts and Exam Proof. Complete 500 hours or more of education
• Send Fingerprints. Get your Live Scan Fingerprints completed in the State of California.
• Pay Fee. Pay your Application Fee of $150.
• Get Passport Photo. Get your Passport Photo taken.
• Include Photocopy of Driver’s License or State ID.
Please Note: Most students choose to obtain the CAMTC certification.
