High School Diploma Equivalency Procedure to get High School Diploma Equivalency: Turkish Higher Education Policies require that a foreign student, who will be enrolling to a Turkish University, must obtain a “High School Diploma Equivalency”. Therefore, as soon as you arrive in Istanbul, you need to obtain the Equivalency of your High school diploma. For this, you need to go to the Local Equivalency Office (Istanbul Il Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğü) with the following documents: Original Passport ( and the copies of the first page and the student visa’s page*) Original High-school Diploma (and its copy) Istanbul Bilgi University Acceptance Letter (and its copy) Processing time is 1-3 days. But it may take longer during July, August and September. * If you do not hold the student visa, you have to submit the “residence permit application form” instead. School Registration Once you have all the necessary documents ready and have arrived in Istanbul, you will need to proceed with the actual registration to our university at the Student Affairs Office in the Santralcampus, with the following documents: Original High School Diploma (in English or Turkish) Equivalency document for your high school diploma Original High School Transcript (in English or Turkish) Original Passport Tuition fee bank receipt 3 Passport Size Photos Certified copy of an English proficiency test if available (IELTS, TOEFL, BIET) 2 3. Student Certificate In certain circumstances such as health insurance, residence permit etc. students need a University certificate in order to prove student status. Procedure to apply for a Student Certificate: 1. Go to Istanbul Bilgi University’s website and make an application through SIS/Student Pages. 2. After completing the application go to student affairs at the campus you have chosen. Your student certificate will be ready in one (1) working day. You can find the student affairs at santralCampus in the ÇSM-building on the ground floor. 3 4 5 6 4. Tax Number In order to apply for a health insurance, you need to get a tax number first. All you need is your passport and a photocopy of the passport page with your photograph on it. Health Insurance (Allianz) It is a state required procedure that all foreign students must obtain a health insurance during their study in Turkey. You will need a tax number (above #4) to be able to complete your health insurance application. You can get your tax number from the Tax offices. Apply online at http://yabancilar.iem.gov.tr/ 2. On your appointment day, go to the Police Headquarters (VATAN) with all the required documents. 3. Submit all of your documents to Desk number 19, which deals with international student’s residence permit. Afterwards, go to Eminönü Mal Müdürlüğü (Local Tax Office) with a photocopy of your passport to pay the 50 TL application fee. Please be aware that payments can be made until 15:00 PM. After making your payment, take the receipt to the Police Headquarters (VATAN). 4. Upon completion of all the above mentioned steps, your Resident Permit will be sent to your university around a month. Documents to print and get ready by the Appointment day: 1. Passport 2. Three Photocopies of passport pages (the page with your photo, the page where validity and expiry dates are written, and the page of the last entry ) 4. 50 Turkish Lira 5. Kat, Sirkeci-Eminönü; Behind Istanbul Ticaret Odası 11 How to get to VATAN Police Headquarters: If you exit the campus from the back gate located next to the mosque and the E1 building, you can take the buses 39 or 39D from the bus station across the road. In addition, you can also take the yellow minibus “Eyüp-Aksaray” to go to Vatan. Another option is to go to Kabataş with our Kabataş Shuttles and take the tram there. You need to get out of the tram at Yusufpaşa Station to change trains and get on the Metro. Leave the Metro at the next station ‘Emniyet’ and Vatan is right there. Another option is to take a taxi from Santral to Vatan Police Headquarters which will cost you around 25-30 TL. How to get to Eminönü Mal Müdürlüğü (Local Tax Office): Eminönü Mal Müdürlüğü (Local Tax Office) is right behind “Istanbul Ticaret Odası”. You can take any bus that goes to Eminönü. 12 Attention: Please do not make your online residence permit application before being physically here in Istanbul! According to the laws, you can only make this application after you cross the Turkish border. 13 14 15 16 17 8. English Proficiency Test If you do not hold one of the required English test results stated below, you will be required to take BİLGİ English Exemption Test. BILET Stage II: Students who have passed BILET I, are required to take BILET Stage II examination. BILET II is divided into two parts: 1. BILET Stage II (Speaking Part) 2.
