is a suspenseful drama about an unlikely relationship between two women. The main
characters, Saara and Tuuli, are irresistible and unpredictable women of equal strength.
Saara is a gynaecologist on the verge of her 40th birthday. She is married to Leo, an architect
and a lecturer at the University of Technology. They have postponed having a child of their own.
Saara suspects her husband of having an affair. Tuuli is a 25-year-old architecture student, who
also instructs a taekwondo class. Her boyfriend is the lecturer, Leo. Everything would be fine, if
only Leo could be man enough to sort things out with the “almost ex-wife”.
Saara finds out about Tuuli and starts to follow and investigate her. Saara attends Tuuli’s taekwondo class under a false identity. Taking advantage of knowing Tuuli’s interests, Saara gradually
wins Tuuli’s trust. Saara becomes addicted to find out more and more details. Tuuli, unaware
of Saara’s identity, opens her heart about her relationship with Saara’s husband. Surprisingly
enough, Saara seems to enjoy Tuuli’s company until Tuuli tells her she might be pregnant with
Leo’s baby. A journey towards an inevitable disclosure of lies begins. It is finally Tuuli who has to
choose a false identity in order to get close to Saara for one more time…

Christmas Story
[
J o u l u t a r i n a
]
Christmas Story recounts the unique and amazing journey of Santa Claus on his way to becoming the
Santa that the world knows and loves. Opening across Finland in November, the family film became
an instant hit, winning the #1 position at the national box office and keeping it for several weeks.
Synopsis: Hundreds of years ago the world’s greatest story was born… In a remote village
in Lapland, young Nikolas loses his family in an accident. The villagers decide to look after the
orphaned boy together. Each family will take care of Nikolas for one year. At the end of each year,
on Christmas Day, Nikolas has to move to a new home. To show his gratitude to the villagers,
Nikolas decides to make toys for the children of the families as good-bye presents. Over the years,
Nikolas’s former adoptive families become many, and soon almost every house has presents on its
doorstep on Christmas morning.
When the village suffers a food shortage, the villagers have to send Nikolas to work as an apprentice for the hermit carpenter, Iisakki. Under the cruel tutelage of Iisakki, Nikolas develops
skills that enable him to create even better presents and to work even faster. The child-hating
Iisakki, however, forbids Nikolas from making presents. The Christmas present tradition is in
danger of coming to an end.

Colorado Avenue
Colorado Avenue tells the story of Dollar-Hanna, dealing with humiliation, shame and respect.
When Hanna is little, she and her mother are forced to leave their home island in the Bothnia
archipelago after Hanna’s father drowns at sea.
Hanna becomes a hired girl at the Smeds’ house. She starts to save money to go to America. In
1893, at the age of 18, she travels to the Unites States and Colorado, determined to make money
in the Great West. Ten years later in 1905, Hanna returns to her home village Siklax with her son
Otto and daughter Ida, but without a husband. With her American dollars she buys a parcel of
rocky land and opens a country store. The store becomes the village centre and the local people
begin to respect the industrious Hanna – or Dollar-Hanna as they choose to call her.
When prohibition takes effect in 1919, Otto starts his career as a smuggler. Soon he becomes
the King of Containers, with detective Hoxell fervently trying to catch him. Dollar-Hanna feels
ashamed again. She cannot forgive Otto for choosing the criminal path. Otto is also accused of
killing his helper Dåhli-Johan.
Claes Olsson

Dark Floors –
The Lordi Motion Picture
Sarah is an autistic little girl whose father is worried about her health. Concerned for her, the
father sees a removal from the hospital by force as the only option. An elevator break-down prevents a smooth exit and renders them trapped with others. Yet the incident is only the beginning
of a descent into nightmare. As the doors open, the hospital appears mysteriously deserted. When
mutilated bodies are found, creatures from a dark world start a frightening attack. It soon becomes clear that the survival of the group may rest solely on the little girl.
Pete Riski
Pete Riski (b. 1974) is a quiet guy who was born and raised in the northern part of Finland.
In the cold winters there was nothing else to do but to watch telly and see every movie that played
in the local theater. As a teenager, he made lots of short VHS horror movies and music videos for
local bands. Couple of years in an art school led to a
career in directing commercials and music videos.
His music videos are something different from what people
are used to,and his commercials are a combination of
different visual looks and interesting stories. Music is
always one of the key things in his works. A decade in the
business and lots of different kinds of awards later, he is
still the same quiet northern guy as in the beginning.
So let the reel do the talking.

Committing petty theft in his teenage years, Remu meets rock and decides to become like Chuck
Berry. He steals money in order to buy a drum kit, gets caught and is sentenced to prison.
Once free, Remu joins a band called Kalevala. He ends up having a row with Kalevala’s guitarist, Järvinen, who eventually quits the band. As a result, Remu is kicked out of the band as well.
Remu starts his own band, Hurriganes. He gets Cisse to play bass and the young Ile on guitar.
He keeps pushing the band and manages to get some gigs. Then Ile leaves the band, forcing Remu
to swallow his pride and ask Järvinen to be the band’s guitarist.
The band becomes more and more popular. Intoxicated by his success, Remu bad-mouths a
police officer named Hurme who, despising Remu, puts him in prison on the eve of the signing of
a record deal. Remu arranges a break-out but realises at the last minute what a mistake it would
be. Instead he deals with the humiliations of prison and is freed just in time for recording.
The Roadrunner album is recorded in Stockholm. Remu agrees to transport a drug package
to Finland on behalf of a friend. When he reaches customs, a thorough search reveals only the
master tape for the new record.
Hurriganes has its breakthrough and becomes a huge phenomenon.

The main character of the movie is Juhani, a boy haunted and oppressed by a traumatic childhood
experience. After being bounced between a number of foster homes for six years, Juhani ends up
in a boys’ home, at a place called The Island. The Island is run under the laws and regulations of
Olavi Harjula, the superintendent of the place, who is ruthless in his administration. Besides the
seven boys who have ended up at the home and Harjula, the only other inhabitants on the Island
are Harjula’s wife and their two daughters, along with Tyyne who is in charge of the livestock and
the cooking. The isolated community is a world of its own.
The movie forces the viewers to ask themselves how long you have to keep paying for past
mistakes and deeds. When can you forgive yourself and be set free? Or can you? And are you
responsible for other people’s actions?

The Matriarch
[
L i e k s a !
]
Worn out after a number of travels, but united and strong, Koppelo family is proud of their history: “We are not just any gang of vagabonds; we are part of world history!”
Members of the Koppelo family were once court tailors for Nicholas II of Russia. When the
Russian revolution started, they fled first to Finland and then to Europe. Years passed, and the
family spread throughout the United States and Southern Europe. In 1970s, part of the family
returned to Finland and settled in Pyhäselkä, Northern Karelia, in a house called Lotokka.
The Matriarch begins when a thirty-year-old peaceful existence in Lotokka ends – the family
is evicted! Martta, the matriarch of the family, faces a big challenge. Her family has been through
some rough times, and it is her responsibility to lead them to Lieksa, a town of dreams.
The Koppelo family love, fight and make up fiercely. Martta’s sons are about to slip into the
world of crime, and the situation is further complicated by a dumb young man who the family
picks up on the road and whose identity is a mystery. Travelling in a caravan of cars, the Koppelo
family sets up camp next to a lake, and Martta finally has time to take a break. But not for long, as
evil is already on its way. Laszlo, the criminal and the black sheep of the family, suddenly arrives
and notices Lara, Martta’s beautiful daughter who has grown into a beautiful young woman.

It is 1918, and the Civil War is raging in Finland; the Social-Democratic Reds are fighting the
Senate-supported Whites. Private Aaro Harjula returns from Germany and joins the non-socialist
Whites. He is shocked to see how the Whites treat the defeated, rebellious Reds. He witnesses Red
female soldiers being group-raped and executed without a trial.
One of the women escapes execution, and Harjula decides to take her to a nearby military
tribunal. When Harjula is transporting his prisoner in a rowboat, she tries to escape, causing the
rowboat to capsize. Both Harjula and the female prisoner are forced to swim to a desolate island.
On the island, her anger gradually dissipates, and a strange friendship develops between the
two. They are rescued by a fishing boat and transported to the mainland. Harjula believes it
would be best to take her to the court where a good judge will surely make a just decision.
But in the end Harjula must make a decision that will be unlawful and against the orders given
to him – he must follow his heart. He wants to save the woman from death by any means necessary.

The father of a Finnish family visiting the crumbling Berlin Wall rescues a cute puppy, Stormheart, and takes him back to Finland as a pet for his daughters. No one in the family knows anything about the dog, not even its breed.
Little by little, the mystery of Stormheart unravels, and the dog’s new owners learn more about
him. They find out that Stormheart’s parents had served as guard dogs at the Berlin Wall.
In the film, drama, comedy and tragedy are created by the mere breed-typical behaviour of
the Caucasian Shepherd. Pearl, the 7-year-old daughter of the Finnish family, takes the puppy
under her wing. In the care of the tender-hearted family, trained only by little Pearl, Stormheart
grows up with no rules or boundaries. In six months, the dog that has grown up to the size of a
bear undertakes the task of removing all dangers, threats and obstacles from the path of Pearl,
his little protégé. And Pearl, in return, loves Stormheart unconditionally.
Stormheart is a great animal story for schoolchildren and their families; it is a film for all
people who love animals.

”It is where Finland’s fate will be decided.” General A. F. Airo
Finland’s defences on the Karelian Isthmus break and Soviet troops advance with an overwhelming advantage in manpower and military equipment. The Finns have been beaten. Guerilla tactics
in the forests are no longer enough, and some other solution must be found to contain the unprecedented offensive.
Tali – Ihantala 1944 recounts the events of the largest battle in the history of Scandinavia
through five short stories. The defensive victory was a miracle. How was it ever achieved?
The film tells about the failed attempts of the summer of 1944 to achieve the impossible, stopping a greatly superior enemy and the final efforts to avert a defeat that seemed certain. This epic
film deals with the miracle of Ihantala through the perspectives of ordinary people. Soldiers had
to exhibit an unbelievable capacity to endure the inhumane harshness and brutality of war. But a
soldier had a job to do. That is what this film deals with: men at work.

The story takes place in the first half of the 20th century. The setting for the film is an isolated,
run-down farm in the Finnish countryside where a 10-year old boy lives with his mother. The
boy’s father is serving time in prison but still has a strong hold on the family.
One rainy evening a visitor arrives. A man who has been wounded by a gunshot brings a note
from the boy’s father. They let the man hide in the stable.
Slowly the man gets better. He begins to help out on the farm and teaches the boy how to take
care of their horse. The boy befriends the animal, confiding his secrets in him.
Gradually the visitor gains the boy’s trust and the affection of the woman. For the short summer, they all feel as if they are a family.
The summer, however, ends abruptly with the death of the horse, and a long fall begins for all
of them.

from the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Omar Dykes from Omar & The Howlers, Barrence Whitfield
– lead singer of The Savages, Sven Zetterberg and Clas Yngström from Sweden, Eric Bibb, plus
Lazy Lester from the deep south in the States. All of the abovementioned guests have a long history
with the Wentus Blues Band. The film is about the family meeting of these musicians. The audience will feel like standing on the stage at the same time as these great musicians. Play what you
feel, feel what you play!

Tuomari Nurmio becomes interested in Finnish tango. Modern Finnish tango puzzles him; it has
no kick, no vigor. He begins his research on how tango came to Finland and what affected the
development of Finnish tango.
Tuomari forms an orchestra, and together they start arranging his old songs into tangos and
rearranging some evergreen tangos.
The orchestra adopts the name ‘Kongontien orkesteri’, records the album ‘Tangomanifesti’
and performs to a live audience.
Archive material, and footage of Tuomari’s research and the arranging and recording of the
music are intercut using the association technique.
The film follows Tuomari Nurmio and Kongontien orkesteri during the making of the album,
as well as Tuomari’s research of the arrival of tango and its history in Finland. The film is both a
unique documentary about making an album in today’s Finland and a profound look by old-timers of the rock generation at a musical genre that was previously unfamiliar to them.

conveys the amazing vitality of punk music and punkers. The “do it yourself” ethic draws young people to punk the same way it did when this new music style arrived
in Finland. Pelle Miljoona, the great dinosaur of Finnish punk, is still going strong, and band
members celebrate their 50th birthdays on the tour bus. They have released a new album and are
adored by old and new fans alike. Akupunktio is punk. Just like the generation of thirty years ago,
the kids today are drawn to shout their message to the world. But the makers of punk music also
have other goals in their lives. Punk’s power is wide-reaching.

Shadow of the Holy Book

Why are some of the world’s biggest international companies translating an absurd foreign propaganda book into their own languages? Why are they trying to evade any serious discussion
about their motives, and about the grim human rights problems and free speech violations in the
Central Asian country of Turkmenistan?
Shadow of the Holy Book investigates the morality of international companies and the dictatorship of oil-and-gas-rich Turkmenistan. These companies help give the dictatorship the propaganda support that it needs to survive. Turkmenistan’s dictator, Saparmurat Niyazov, has written
a ludicrous book: the Ruhnama, the Book of Soul, a key tool in the government’s subjugation of
human rights and free speech. Yet many international companies give their clandestine support
to the Ruhnama and help suppress the country’s voices of opposition and dissidence – in return
for multimillion-dollar business deals.
Arto Halonen
Arto Halonen has directed numerous films, including e.g. Pavlov’s Dogs
(Pavlovin koirat, 2005), Conquistadors of Cuba (Kuuban valloittajat, 2005),
The Tank Man (Tynnyrimies, 2004), The Star’s Caravan (Taivasta vasten ,
2000), A Dreamer and the Dreamtribe (Unelmoija ja unikansa, 1998) and
Karmapa – Two Ways of Divinity (Karmapa – jumaluuden kaksi tietä , 1998).
In 2005he got the Finland Prize, the highest annual prize in the arts given
by the Ministry of Culture and the state. Among other important prizes,
he received the Humanitarian Award of the EU in 1998. Halonen is also

is a surprising and emotional dive into the world of rhythm – an extraordinary trip
to discover the magic relationship between Life and Rhythm. Drum legend Billy Cobham takes
us from the bandstands of the Western world to the primal music of African origin with kids in a
Brazilian community and on to the completely secluded world of musical experiences of autists.
These different worlds are yet connected through music in a mystical and secret way. The relation
between the collective and the individual consciousness becomes obvious when, in a fantastic final
moment, symbiosis is achieved. Music is emotion. Music is communication. Music is identity. Music
becomes a true universal language to express hope, love, ambition and joy. Sonic Mirror is a film
full of vibrancy and compassion, authentic and hypnotic from the first to the very last moment.
