MAJLIS AMANAH RAKYAT GENERAL TECHNICAL STANDARDS COURSE LAB 2.4 Prepared By: Bahagian Pembangunan Sumber Course Lab LO Development Guide 1 1.0 INTRODUCTION The aim of the LO Development Guide is to facilitate Bahagian Pembangunan Sumber’s (BPS) LO Development Team to develop LOs either internally or with other strategic partners. It should be used in an ongoing way by the team members as a reference tool when developing new LOs of any subjects cross the curriculum. 2.0 LO COMPONENTS In every LO developed for the LO project comprises THREE main components, i.e. Objective, Learning Activity and Assessment (in Bahasa, the components are named as Objektif, Aktiviti Pembelajaran and Penilaian). Each SCO in every component of an LO is independent so that they can be integrated and disintegrated for the purpose of reusability. Diagram 1.0 gives more details of the components. OBJECTIVE SCOn SCOn LEARNING ACTIVITY ASSESSMENT • SCO 1 is the objective(s) of the LO. This SCO is compulsory. • SCO 2 is the prior knowledge of the LO. This SCO is optional. SCOn • The contents can be divided into different SCOs and must be given headings and/or sub-headings SCOn • Activities can be incorporated into the contents or exist on their own. SCOn • The last SCO of this component can be the summary of the LO. SCOn • There are 3 types of assessment that can be used. • Questions should be between 812. • All questions will be in 1 SCO. Diagram 1.0: LO Components Note: The number of SCOs in an LO is not fixed, but dependent on the objectives and other factors. Course Lab LO Development Guide 2 3.0 LO TECHNICAL STANDARDS This section will outline the standards that shall be followed.. 3.1 SCORM 2004 (3rd Edition) Standard The LO Development uses SCORM 2004 3rd Edition standard and guidelines, but it only choose and select a few major components in SCORM to make sure the learning process can be tracked by the LMS Sequencing Information - The LO development applies No Sequencing rules for navigation between SCOs Learners can jump to any other SCO in the LO. Manifest file - 3.2 A manifest is an XML document that describes the components of the content package. In manifest, o completion threshold is set to 1 (Completion status only set to Completed if learners view all screen of the SCO) o hide LMS button like Continue and Previous to avoid confusing to the navigation button embedded in LO o metadata location for all asset, SCOs and the LO package itself (Use external metadata file to describe each element of LO to make sure the metadata file can be reuse in future) LO General Technical Standards The LOs that are developed and will be developed shall follow the technical standards as outlined below: 1. The LOs are web-based with conformance to SCORM 2004. 2. The LOs are able to both stand-alone version and also LMScompliant. 3. The LOs shall run efficiently in a personal computer with the following minimum specifications: (a) Pentium III (800 MHz) and equivalent or better (b) Free disk space of 200MB (c) SVGA card and monitor supporting a display of 800 x 600 16 bit colours (d) Internet connection with the transfer rate of 512 kbps or better (e) CD-ROMs with read speed of 24 x or better (f) Any sound card with speakers LO Development Guide version 2.2 3 (g) Any kind of screen resolution (as long as there are no scroll bars) 4. The LOs shall run efficiently in the following environment: (a) Main platforms, which are Windows, Macintosh & Linux operating system. (b) Browser: Internet Explorer for Windows, Safari for Macintosh & Mozilla for Linux. (c) The preloader should appear in less than 2 seconds. The preloader shows the loading progress of the content. (d) The montage (first page of each LO) shall take in ± 5 seconds. (e) Options of using a cross platform browser to be developed to accompany the LOs. (f) All the LOs can be run either offline or online without any bugs (g) The same LO files should be used for the same LOs when they run offline. 5. Programming approach: See CourseLab Action 6. Navigation Standards: (a) All navigation must be designed according to SCORM – bookmarking and tracking. (b) Navigation standard buttons are found on all pages (c) Students shall have the flexibility to navigate to the next and previous activity, to repeat an instruction or activity using suitable navigational icons. (d) There shall be buttons for students to confirm a selection. In the test, there shall be a button to initiate the test. Students shall also retry the question before confirmation. The instructions for the test should be concise but clear. (e) For all ‘mouse over’ effects there shall be a tool-tip to describe its function. Selecting navigation button shall have the visual and sound effect of depressing the button or some movement on the button. (f) Standard LO’s button terms are as follows: Bahasa BI BM Simbol / perkataan 1. Next Maju Simbol Navigasi ke muka seterusnya 2. Back Undur Simbol Navigasi ke muka sebelumnya 3.
