Our Speakers
SHIRIN RAJAEE joined NewsChannel 3 in 2011 as their coanchor at 5pm and 6pm and reports live every night at 11pm.
She was assignment editor for the CNN Los Angeles
bureau and assisted with producing shows on both CNN and
Headline News. Shirin was entertainment anchor and producer for PBC TV (Persian Broadcasting Co.) in Calabasas.
She graduated from UCLA with a BA in Communications,
and continued her studies in UCLA’s TV Journalism Program.
While at UCLA, she joined a nonprofit called “Corazon de
Vida”, which supports children in orphanages in Mexico.
DAVID DEBIN graduated Adelphi University and began
his show business career as an Equity Stage Manager
for touring musical comedies. He has written and produced numerous television works in Hollywood for NBC,
CBS, Columbia, MGM, Disney, Warner Bros., and Fox. An
author of 7 novels, he is a member of the Writer’s Guild
of America, the Mystery Writers of America and the Author’s Guild. In 2012 he wrote and produced a comedy
pilot for Mexican TV, “The Mexico City Angels.” He taught
Creative Writing at Antioch University SB and SBCC.
STARSHINE ROSHELL is best known locally for her lifestyle column in The Independent. Nationally she’s known
as the irreverent author of the Tough Love advice column
for TheWeek.com. She writes marketing copy for lynda.com
and travel stories for Westways and 805 Living magazines.
Her recent books are Keep Your Skirt On and Wife on the
Edge. Experienced as a news reporter and rock music critic,
Starshine has interviewed George Clooney, Ellen Degeneres,
Tom Hanks, and taught journalism at UCSB and SBCC. She
has received awards for column-writing and business and
financial reporting. Her work has been published in national
newspapers and magazines.
PAUL WELLMAN is the staff photographer and photo editor for The Independent, where he got his start in 2001 as
an amateur photographer working part-time in the editorial
production department. Eighteen months later, he took over
the job full-time. Paul and his camera bag have since covered many miles of SB County and beyond, shooting concerts, court cases, pop stars and politicians, portraits and
protests, spot news and sports, festivals and fires. His work
was featured in dozens of publications including The New
York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and National Georaphic.

CECILIA MARTINI MUTH received her BFA in Dance in
1997 from UCSB. Her passion in the arts extends from
movement on the stage to movement of the page. Cecilia
owns CCDesign Graphics and Marketing, is president of the
SB Dance Alliance, and is the marketing directer for funKshades. Her clients include many nonprofit organizations
such as the Lobero, Ventura County Music Festival, CASA LA,
Planned Parenthood, Speaking of Stories, SB Dance Alliance,
Art Without Limits and a number of local businesses. Cecilia lives in Santa Barbara with her husband and two children.
SAMUEL McKAIG, billed as Sammy Styles, discovered breakdancing when he was 13, and like most guys at that age, he
had too much energy and no place to put it. While many of his
friends followed the path of drugs, gangs and prisons, Sammy’s family encouraged him to follow his passion and because
of this, he is now one of the top professionals in his field, flown
across the globe, teaching hundreds of students, performing
in major shows, and filming commercials and motion pictures.
PATRICIA L. FRANK serves as Director of Design and Technology for the Department of Theatre Arts at SBCC. She has
been an educator for over 25 years and has taught courses in
Stagecraft, Lighting Design, Scenic Design, Scenography and
Theatre Appreciation. She is the primary designer for The Theatre Group at SBCC. Pat is an award-winning designer, who has
worked on over 100 theatrical productions. Prior to teaching,
Pat worked in the broadcast industry serving as an Art
Director for a Midwest television station. Pat received her MFA
in Visual Arts in 1984 and her MA in Dramatic Arts in 1985.
JULIE McLEOD is the founder, director of Art Without Limits,
served as Executive Director of SB Dance Alliance, producing over 100 concerts and had a SB studio, Dance Warehouse for 20 years. She is the driving force behind this year’s
Art Career Day Conference. She studied dance with Martha
Graham, Jose Limon and Anthony Tudor at Juilliard in NY. Julie
was in the original cast of West Side Story on Broadway and
toured with Yul Brynner in King and I. She has served on many
boards of nonprofits and community organizations. Julie has
nurtured many budding artists, hence her inspiration for Art
Without Limits’ one-on-one mentorships to keep the arts alive.
