The area is rich in history and outdoor attractions. Magnificent high desert scenery, golf, hiking, fishing, hunting, water recreation on Flaming Gorge and the Green River, and off-road adventures in nearby sand dunes provide great opportunities for outdoor escapes. Explore the Wild Horse Loop on White Mountain and view pronghorn herds across the Green River Basin, rare desert elk in the Red Desert, or water fowl in the Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge. Western has numerous student groups. Some of which include: Associated Student Government (ASG) Residence Hall Association (RHA) Intramural Athletics Mustang Express (student newspaper) Omega Radio Club Phi Theta Kappa (honor society) 6 On-campus living at Western is designed to provide you with comfortable, affordable housing near campus services. Western’s on-campus housing is among the best in the country. Living on campus has numerous benefits. Besides living close to classes, you have computer access, private voicemail, a security system, and friendly Resident Assistants who are trained to help, if needed. Living options range from suite clusters, semi-private rooms, and one- and two-bedroom apartments. Non-apartment style rooms are furnished and have a MicroFridge (microwave-refrigerator combination). Apartments are fully furnished. Western’s housing is technology friendly. A computer lab in Rocky Mountain Hall is open 20 hours each day, and all rooms are provided with T-3 internet connections or wireless internet capabilities. Mitchell’s & T-Rex Grill Quality and availability are two key aspects of campus dining services. On-campus dining options include Mitchell’s cafeteria and the T-Rex Grill. Mitchell’s offers premium dining possibilities at affordable prices. Meal plan options of 10 or 18 meals per week are available. Scholarships or stipends are available in the following sports: Men’s Basketball Women’s Basketball Men’s Wrestling Women’s Volleyball Men’s Soccer Women’s Soccer Spirit Squad 10 Western Wyoming Community College offers six intercollegiate athletic teams, three for men and three for women, and a CoEd Spirit Squad. The Mustang intercollegiate athletic teams are definitely a vital part of WWCC and the surrounding community. For the athlete and the non-athlete, Mustang athletics enhances the overall learning experience on campus. WWCC athletics has a strong tradition of serving the local community and is honored to serve an area rich in tradition, natural beauty and friendly people. The coaches and athletes alike enjoy performing for and interacting with community members, organizations, local business and industry. 11 Student Life Western has taken advantage of the natural history from the local area and has one of the most extensive dinosaur collections in the Rocky Mountain region. Dinosaurs are displayed throughout the campus and are complemented by the Natural History Museum and Weidner Wildlife Collection. At Western, learning is not limited to the classroom. In fact, academic opportunities seem to crop up everywhere–on stage, in laboratories and in athletic competition. Students get involved in “Hands-On” learning activities during the freshman and sophomore years that help them decide on a major. Education majors work in local schools during their first year. Social science majors can serve as interns; exercise science majors get the opportunity to work as personal trainers; students interested in archaeology and geology can participate in field studies in Wyoming, Colorado and around the world. 12 13 Getting Started To get started at Western, go online and create your Western Account.
