Happy Easter!
During Lent our school families participated in the Catholic Relief Services
Rice Bowl Lenten faith-in-action program. We heard stories from our
brothers and sisters in need worldwide, and devoted our Lenten prayers,
fasting and gifts to change the lives of the poor. Our school families
succeeded in giving over $2000 to Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl!
75 percent of this gift supports Catholic Relief Services programs around
the world. Some examples include:
Agriculture projects help farmers improve harvests
Water and sanitation projects bring clean water to communities
Microfinance projects support small businesses
Mother and child health projects offer health and nutrition services
Education projects provide resources and training
25 Percent of your donations go to hunger and poverty alleviation efforts in our own community.
Thank you so much for supporting this program.
Three Pillars of Lent
By Mrs. Diederichs, Third Grade Teacher
The three pillars of Lent include prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Third grade has been
practicing these pillars throughout the season of Lent in various ways. For prayer they
have been going to 8:00 mass on Friday mornings, reciting the Rosary once a week, and
focusing on the Stations of the Cross. For fasting, students have chosen to give up
something (e.g. television, video games, candy, gum, pop, etc…) For almsgiving students
are giving to the Rice Bowl. Students made Lent/Stations of the Cross games to play
with each other and also share with their families.

Getting to know you . . . . Miss Julkowski
Grade/Subject: First Grade Teacher
Hometown: Cedar, MN
Family: I still live at home with my amazing parents Sue and Doug. I have two brothers both in
college, Andy (21) goes to Augsburg College majoring in math and chemistry and Alex (19) goes to
St. Cloud State majoring in Physics. Lastly, there’s my dog Molly and my horse Chance.
Education: Graduated from St. Francis High School in 2009. I have an Associate’s degree from
Anoka Ramsey and an Elementary degree from St. Catherine University.
Teaching History: I just graduated from college this past December so this is my very first teaching
job! I absolutely LOVE IT!
When did you know you wanted to be a teacher? I remember as a kid playing school with my
brothers. I was always the teacher and would set up a desk in our basement and use our little art
easel that had a whiteboard. I would also make up spelling words for them. I think I might have
enjoyed it more than them, since I made them do homework! Ha ha!
What is the secret to being a successful teacher? To build strong relationships with your students
and their families.
What is the most rewarding aspect of teaching at St. Stephen School? I love being able to share my
faith with others. It’s something that I am so grateful for! I also enjoy working with my colleagues,
they have all been so helpful!
What is one piece of advice you have for current and future St. Stephen students? Always
remember to follow your dreams and never give up!
Who do you admire or who most inspires you and why?
My mom, because she inspires me to love everyone, to stay humble, and to live life to the fullest!
People may not know this but I … Show and train horses in my free time. I have ridden horses since I
was 8. I rode horses at Roselawn Stables in St. Francis, showed in 4H and at the State 4H Show, and
now I do local shows at various saddle clubs. I am also the queen of my saddle club and will be
competing against women all over the state for the title of WSCA Queen (Western Saddle Club
Association) in September. This year I also hope to show at the MN State Fair! Come and visit us!
