MASS SCHEDULE:
Old San Miguel Mission
Founded 1598
One of The Oldest Catholic Churches in the United States
Mission Statement
“We Strive to Bring People Closer to God.”
(Adopted August 5, 2008)
Parish Vision Statement
We, the faith filled members of San Miguel Parish and its
Missions, a part of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, find strength,
unity and grace in the Celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the
Mass. As the voices and hands of Jesus in our time, our
purpose is to express God’s grace by offering Christian Love
and Service to each other and to everyone we meet. We reach
out to the world in prayer, action and deeds in unity with the
Holy Roman Catholic Church.
(Adopted May 15, 2007)
He took the child by the hand and said
to her, “talitha koum,” which means,
“Little girl, I say to you, arise!”
The girl, a child of twelve, arose
immediately and walked around.
At that they were utterly astounded.

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
July 1, 2012
In the readings today, the emphasis is that
our God is the God of life. In our Gospel reading,
we hear the story of Jesus bringing Jairus’ daughter
back to life. Within the story of Jesus and Jairus
and his daughter, we also are told of the woman
who suffered from bleeding for 12 years. I am awestruck by the faith the woman shows in Jesus! She
knows that all she has to do is touch the end of His
garment in order to be healed.
Both Jairus and the woman are examples to
this day about true faith. Jairus knew Jesus would
heal his daughter. He had no doubt about that. But
when they arrive at his house, he believes it is too
late. It is never too late for Jesus—just as He raised
the little girl from her untimely death, He is always
ready to heal whatever ails us, and, ultimately, raise
us as well. But because
Jesus knew that it is hard for us at times to persevere in our faith, He gives us the Holy Sacraments
and the Holy Word of God.
Saint Paul clearly understood the struggles
of our daily lives. He tells us in the Second Reading
that Jesus “became poor for our sake.” Faith
weakens, however, as doubt seems to creep into our
thoughts on an almost daily basis. Worries about
personal finances, faltering economies, or the everpresent specter of, or maybe even smaller, nagging
problems are constantly on our minds. Nevertheless, we are called to put all that aside and must
always remember to be generous to those who have
less.
The first reading tells us that God created us
to be wholesome. What a beautiful image. God
created us to be imperishable. Death can come
about in many ways, not necessarily the physical
kind of death, but the death that comes about by
sin. Even though we fall short of his glory many
times, He never ceases to love us and welcome us
back when we turn back to him.
Our Psalm today is a wonderful reminder of
the love of God. Throughout the coming week, let
us try to remember , “I will praise you Lord, for you
have rescued me”, for to do otherwise would be to
turn away from the loving God who created us for
Life.
