Zrenjanin’s success today is used as best practice of entrepreneurial financial management in the public sector. The City’s investing is continued – planned reconstruction of the Ecka Airport, development of a transport center and a pier at the Begej River. One of 6 duty free zones is in Zrenjanin and the City is running it together with a Slovenian partner – firm Kolpa. Businesses in the zone are free from custom fees and taxes which may help them make up to 40% of savings in costs. Zrenjanin has established a business incubator with successful operations which is something very few municipalities managed to achieve. Considering that Zrenjanin is the second largest municipality in Serbia in terms of area size where as much as 80% is fertile land – one may conclude that their agricultural potential is large. 2011 © National Alliance for Local Economic Development budapest (306 km) proximity to nearest border crossings Towards Romania 43 km Towards Hungary 140 km vienna (545 km) zrenjanin belgrade (76 km) sofia (465 km) thessaloniki (708 km) istanbul (1.046 km) invest in zrenjanin human resources Work force: 91,104 (man: 45,225, women: 45,879) Education structure: 10.65% 4 and 2 year college, 48.08% high school, 40.75% elementary and lower, 0.52% not available Education profiles: Economist, shop assistant, technologist, IT specialist, textile technician, chemical, agricultural and food processing technician, medical worker, electrical technician, civil construction technician No of unemployed: 12,673 unemployed; 29% unemployment rate Average gross salary: 482.8€ / per month local economy No of enterprises: 4,800 Size: 25% companies, 75% entrepreneurs Dominant industries: Agriculture, food processing, oil and gas production, chemical, textile.
