n the long running soap
opera “Automotive Days
Of Our Lives” the
patriarch of Jaguar, the Ford
Motor Company, has added yet
another twist to the story. Bill
Ford has stepped down as CEO
and turned operational duties over
to a guy familiar with turning
companies around namely, Alan
Mulally. Mr. Mulally, the former
head of Boeing, has the background
and skills to do the cost cutting
that is probably necessary to make
Ford profitable. What form that
will be and how many divisions
survive remains to be seen. I do
think, however, it would be
detrimental to Ford to unload
Jaguar. They need the nameplate.
We will see how this plays out.

Greece this fall and certain
locations in the movie were stops

AJS will hold its Concours
d’Elegance at an exciting new
venue; Nalley Jaguar in Roswell.
Nalley has kindly agreed to open
their facility to us on Saturday
(please note the Saturday show day
instead of our usual Sunday) to
hold what is always a great display
of the Jaguar marques. In using
this location we will get a highly
visible spot on a main artery in
Atlanta plus the entire front of the
dealership and showroom to
display Jags and perhaps attract a
number of visitors, which we
haven’t been able to do in other
spots around town. Also, in
another complete departure from
norm Dick Thyer, Wayne Harris
and Bob Daley have created the
most unique set of trophies that
have ever been used at a car show.
We believe you will be delighted to
have one of these on display in the
home or office. All we need to
make this event work is you and
you Jag(s). If you can only make
one more event this year make it
this one.
Registration will begin at 10:00
AM; car preparation will end at
12:30 PM, and judging will
commence at 1:30 PM. After the
completion of judging, trophies
will be presented for all competing
classes as well as the “People’s
Choice” and John Steen Awards.
All entrants will also receive an
award commemorating their
participation in the 2006
Concours. The rules will basically
be the same as in past years.
Again, all cars entered in the
judged classes must be driven to
the show. Any car trailored to the
Concours grounds will be placed in
the Touring Class. The following
scoring system stipulates the
number of points required for
specific awards:

In addition to the regular judged
classes, we will continue the
practice instituted a few years ago
with the Touring Class. The
Touring Class allows Jaguar
owners to enter without being
judged under normal Concours
rules. Sometimes members do not
enter the regular Concours because
of their perceived hassle in
preparing their cars for a Concours
judged event (although this is the
perfect excuse for giving your Cat,
at least, a once a year thorough
cleaning); others have older,
unrestored or ‘rough’ cars that
may not be Concours ready, but
would be a delight for our
members to see and experience.
Now there is no reason not to
enter your Jag – members can
even enter different cars in both
the judged and non-judged
categories.
If you are familiar with Nalley’s
location you know there are
restaurants up and down the road
but nothing within walking
distance and once at the show you
may not want to leave or can’t do

id October in the mountains of North Carolina usually
brings wonderful fall weather and brilliant colors. This
year, the British Car Club of Western North Carolina
has chosen beautiful Chimney Rock Park as the venue for their
popular British car get-together. This is adjacent to Lake Lure,
another beautiful spot, and is an approximately three hour
drive from Atlanta.
The host hotel for the event is the Quality Inn & Suites at Exit
49A off I26 in nearby Hendersonville, NC. A block of rooms at
special rate has been set aside for those attending the event.
You will need to call the hotel direct to make your reservations
if you plan to attend. The telephone number is 828-692-7231.

$10.00/person. The only caveat is we must have your

that in when you register your cars or you may send
it separately. We simply need an accurate head count.
I can’t stress enough how important it is to register
your cars early and also for the lunch. Unfortunately
last minute folks for the lunch won’t work however
you may register your car, of course, the day of the
event. The food will be on the lower level of Nalley
and will not be open to the public.
Please register early as we will have to pick cars that
will be displayed on the grass out front and those that
will actually be located in the showroom. The sooner
we have the entrants the sooner we can pick models
for these key display areas. Wayne Harris will be
handling the judges this year and as always we need
folks to help with that job as well. It does not matter
if you haven’t judged previously, we’ll put you with
someone who has. It’s a great way to develop a

• DO NOT REVIEW THE SCORE SHEET WITH THE OWNER.
• DO NOT JUDGE A CLASS YOU HAVE A CAR ENTERED IN.
• REMEMBER - JUDGE’S DECISION IS FINAL!
• JUDGE FOR CLEANLINESS, AUTHENTICITY AND ‘WELL-MAINTAINED.” OLD, CLEAN AND
WELL-MAINTAINED COUNTS MORE THAN NEW AND DIRTY.
