SNDTWU team of selected 28 students, 10 accompanist and 2 team managers participated in the 11th Indradhanushya
State level Inter University Youth Festival, Mr. Vinayak Divekar and Ms. Neelam Bokil were the team managers. We won
the Overall Runner-Up Trophy and Music Championship Trophy was Shared with Mumbai University, after competing
with 19 Universities and the following prizes were won:

The S.N.D.T Yuva Mahotsav conducted for the students of the Colleges/ Departments, inorder to get an opportunity to
showcase their talents. This festival is celebrated on a grand scale. Following are the 5 main categories with 26 events
for participation :1. Literary category consisting of 5 events
2. Music category consisting of 7 events
3. Dance category consisting of 2 events
4. Fine Arts category consisting of 7 events
5. Theatre category consisting of 5 events
The Yuva Mahotsav is divided into 4 Regional Programes and the winners of the same then participate in the Grand Finale

The West Zone Inter University Youth Festival as a yearly event was organized by Association of Indian Universities
sponsored by Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India., from 5th to 9th December 2011 at Mohanlal Sukhadiya
University, Udaipur. In this event 35 Universities participated. Our University team of 24 members had participated &
won the following prizes.
Western Vocal Solo ( 1st Prize ), Folk Dance ( 3rd Prize ), Indian Group Song ( 1st Prize ), Classical Vocal Solo ( 3rd Prize ),
Western Group Song ( 1st Prize ), Cartooning ( 3rd Prize ) , One Act Play ( 2nd Prize )
• Ms.Megha Suresh of C. U. Shah College of Pharmacy represented the college and university and won at state level,
zonal level, national and international levels for western solo and group singing.
National Inter University Youth Festival
• Organized by A.I.U. Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and was held from 22nd to 26th January 2012. In this event 64
Universities participated from all over India.
• The team of 13 students selected by Department of Students’ Welfare who won the West Zone Inter University Youth
festival securing 1st & 2nd prize further participated in the National Inter University Youth Festival held at Rashtrasant
Tukadoji Maharaj University, Nagpur and won the following prizes.

SNDT Women’s University introduced Tejaswini contest to
find out the best student of the university. This contest
is a challenging contest as it consists of several tests,
competitions.

The Tejaswini Contest is organized by the Department of
Students’ Welfare to select the All-round Best student of
the University, having leadership qualities, good academic
record, good personality, organizational abilities and the
participation in co-curricular and social service activities
and sports. The Winner of “Tejaswini’ is awarded Gold
Medal at the University Convocation Day.

Introduction
The SNDT Women’s University was the 1st to enrol for
NCC in the year 1958. SNDT Arts and Commerce College,
Churchgate was honoured to raise the 1st unit in the
university. Capt. Munim was the 1st lady officer to look
after NCC unit and served up to 1965. Further serving
Lady Officers, their duration and cadets strength are as

This Banner competition was started in the year1995 on
the basis of best NCC training and performance. Every
year Banner is being presented by Honourable ViceChancellor of the University to the best performing unit
(College). This presentation ceremony is held on the
occasion of ‘NCC Day’ at Colaba.
• For the year 2011-2012 this prestigious Banner
awarded to S.P.N.DOSHI College unit, Ghatkopar for
their excellent performance.
National Level Participation

In the year 1990 the 2nd unit M.M.P.Shah was raised under
Maj. Jyoti J. Khambatta as a Company Commander with
the strength of 105 cadets, thereafter other four new

Annual Training Camps
Every year NCC Battalion arranges Annual Training Camp
and all cadets have to go through their regular camp
training. In this camp cadets learn practical part of NCC
Syllabus. The motto of this camp is to inculcate group spirit,
leadership, adventure and also to develop personality of
cadets. Cadets also learn sportsmanship and hardwork
through participating in different competitions.
In one year, to accommodate each and every cadet,
battalion has to organise many annual training camps at
JNPT, Uran. In the year 2011-12 six camps were conducted.
The details are as follows:
1. From18th June to 27th June 2011, 30 Cadets of four
Mumbai units participated. CQMS Nikita Singhal won
silver medal in debate competition.
Adventure Training
2. From 29th to 8th July 2011, 30 cadets of all four units
participated. Cadet Aarti Vaval won Gold medal in Rifle
Shooting(Firing)
Riffle Exhibition on 26th January 2012 organised by
VISION 2020 at Vidyavihar. Weapons were exhibited by 20
Sikh Regiment of Army.
3. From 10th July to 19th July 2011, 18 cadets from
our university participated and won many awards in
various competitions i.e.

NCC DAY CAMP
Organised by Maharashtra Directorate at R.C. Church,
Colaba from 17th to 27th November, 2011. In this camp
40 cadets from SNDTWU participated in various activities,
such as Piloting, Guard of Honour, Group dance, Parade
and Flag area presentation. This programme is celebrated
every year in the whole country on same date.

NCC
NCC cadets from all 3 wings; Army, Navy and Air
wing presented different demonstration and cultural
programme.
Every year Vice chancellor banner presentation is the part
of this NCC Day celebration. Honourable Vice Chancellor
of our university is presenting this prestigious banner
to best college for best NCC activities in the presence
of many VIP’s and armed force officials. Chief Guest for
the day was Lt.Gen.A.K.Singh, AVSM, SM, Southern Army
Commander.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES:
NCC provides various types of social awareness training.
Aims of the training are to inculcate social responsibility in
the cadets and also make them understand for the social
problems by conducting different programs.
Cycle Expedition: As per every year Smt.MMP Shah
College has conducting Cycle expedition from Matunga
to Yusuf Meherali centre on the occasion of ‘Bal Din’ i.e.
14th November with ‘Save the Earth’ theme. 38 cadets
successfully completed. The expedition was flag off by
Col.Saurav Gupta, Group Commander of Mumbai-A group.
Save the Girl child Rally
On 15th October 2011, on behalf of Maharashtra
Directorate, SNDT women’s university has conducted
rally and workshop in the Patkar Hall, Churchgate campus.
The guest for the day was Major General Yashwant Singh,
Additional Director General of Maharashtra Directorate.
Save the Earth programme
On 26th November 2011, organised by 1 Maharashtra Girls
Battalion, NCC held at Mulla Auditorium at Colaba.
Red Ribbon Express
Was organised on 2nd December 2011 at Mumbai CST
Platform No 13. The train named ‘Red Ribbon Express’
shows the exhibition on HIV & AIDS awareness, on behalf
of Maharashtra Directorate. 28 cadets of our university
got opportunity to visit this Train.
Cancer Survivors Day
On 11th February 2012, Cancer Aids society organised
exhibition and workshop with the help of Rotract Club at
Manik Hall Bandra. 22 cadets participated.
Tree Plantation
Anti Drugs programme
1. On 16th July 2011, 10 cadets participated in Tree
Plantation programme organised by Smt.P.N.Doshi
College in college premises for Creating awareness
about nature. 10 saplings were planted. Chief Guest
for the programme were Smt.Kusum Dharamshi In
charge Principal and Ms. Jyotsana Dhruv Vice Principal.
26th June, 2012 on the occasion International Day against
Drugs Abuse and Illicit Trafficking programme was
conducted by 8 Maharashtra Girls Bn.NCC at MMP Shah
College auditorium. The programme was successfully
observed in the presence of NCC Officials of Mumbai-A
group and 250 cadets. The chief guest for the program
was none other than Major General Yashwant Singh,
Additional Director General of Maharashtra Directorate.
2. On 5th November 2011, 11 cadets participated in Tree
plantation programme organised by Smt.MMP Shah
college at Wadala highway.
3. Unit of SNDT Company -1 had Tree plantation in Juhu
campus with the help of Lions Club. 45 cadets planted
saplings.

Beach Cleaning
Every year NCC organises ‘B’ and ‘C’ certificates exams 1st year cadet appear ‘B’ certificate for examination and
2nd year cadet for ‘C’ certificate examination conducted
by NCC Headquarters Delhi.
After visarjan of Ganesh Idol our 35 cadets cleaned the
Beach at Girgaon Chowpatty.
This year total 114 cadets appeared for ‘B’ cert. exam 110
cadets cleared the exam and 22 cadets secured ‘A’ grade.
Pulse Polio
64 cadets appeared for ‘C’ cert.exm 11 cadets secured
with ‘A’ grade.

attended pulse polio drive at CST Railway station 5 cadets

Chancellor’s Brigade NSS Wing Training Camp on Disaster
Management. this camp was organized by Mahatma Phule
Krushi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri. It was held from 7th to 16th
June, 2012. Seventeen Mumbai (4), Pune (3), Sangli (2),
Jalgaon, (4) Satara (2), Ratnagiri (2) NSS Volunteers were
selected for this camp from SNDT Women’s University.
In this camp total 1200 volunteers participated from all
over Maharashtra. NDRF (National Disaster Resource
Force) officer trained all the volunteers on various subjects
like body assessment, first aid, CPR, Water Rescue,
Rappelling, River Rafting, Climbing different knots, fire
rescue, Natural and man-made disaster rescue.
Ms. Sneha Prakash Ambre of Dr. B.M.N. College of
Home Science, Matunga was selected as the Best NSS
Volunteey (Girl). Smt. Surekha V. Gaikwad, G.E.I. Mahila
Mahavidyalaya, Dombivli was the Team Manager.
The following programmes and activities were
conducted:
Firefighting, mock drill for evacuation of residents,
making of rescue knots, earthquake management,
workshops, assistance to disaster victim, lifting
and placing, how to get quick help during disaster
at village level, first aid during disaster etc.

Training Camps
a The Swayamsidha Self Defence Fitness Training
Camp was held at Churchgate from August 3 to
17, 2011.100 students from colleges in Mumbai
and Maharashtra participated in the camp. The
students were trained in fitness and self-defence
skills. Master Gavai from the Police Department
along with the University Coaches of Taekwondo,
Boxing and Yoga trained the students.
b The Sports Leadership Training Camp for 25 sports
leaders from colleges in Mumbai, Maharashtra and
Gujarat was held on July 31& August 1- 2, 2012
at Leslie Sawhny Centre, Devlali. The camp was
sponsored by Leslie Sawhny Centre for Democratic
Values at Devlali.
c National Level Sports Conference was conducted
by the W.K.B.S. Mandal’s Arts, Commerce, Home
Science and BCA College for Women, Deopur, Dhule
on September 27, 2011 at Dhule. 60 sports teachers
and coaches from Mumbai, Maharashtra and
Gujarat participated in the conference which was
organised on the occasion of the National Sports
Day and birthday of the Late Gyan Chand, the
Wizard of Hockey.The Conference was inaugurated
by Shri Padmarkarji Valvi, Minister of Sports &
Youth Welfare, Government of Maharashtra.
g The Hike to Zenith Point , Karjat was conducted on
August 20, 2011. Approx. 80 students participated

Special Harmony Games was organised for the

Adventure Rock Climbing Camp organised from
May 30 to June 3, 2011, at Ratnagiri, in collaboration
with M.K.S.S.S College of Computer Application,
Ratnagiri. The Camp was undertaken by Shri S.
Limaye and group.
b The UGC High Altitude Trekking Camp was held at
Manali from November 2 to 12, 2011 for 25 students
from the Colleges of Mumbai, Maharashtra & Gujarat.

SNDT ACM Students’ Chapter
ACM – Association for Computing Machinery founded
in 1947, based in New York – USA, is the oldest body of
computer professionals in the world. It has students’
chapters all over the world. The Computer Science and
Engineering students at SNDT Women’s University
established a chapter for themselves in 1999.SNDT ACM
Students’ Chapter is the first ACM chapter in Mumbai.
The council functions under the guidance of Dr. T. J.
Mathew and it has been a practice to elect the Executive
Committee for the year to follow, six months early in
order to have a smooth transition year after year. Execom
for the year 2011-12 comprised of Mamta Agrahar as
the Chairperson, Ratna Gautami as Vice Chairperson,
Harshada Naik as the Treasurer and Shilpa Mokhare as the
Membership Chairperson.

Computer Society of India (CSI)
Computer Society of India (CSI) is the first and largest
body of computer professionals in India. It was started
on 6 March 1965 by a few computer professionals and
has now grown to be the national body representing
computer professionals.
CSI has been instrumental in guiding the Indian IT industry
down the right path since its formative years. Today, the
CSI has 70 chapters all over India, 418 student branches,
and more than 90000 members including India’s most
famous IT industry leaders, brilliant scientists and
dedicated academicians.
Total count of Registration till now is more than 160.

4. EVENT: Industrial Visit (Jaipur-Jodhpur-Jaisalmer)

Event: Robotics workshop
Conducted by: Techno gravity solutions

Summary: The workshop was attended by 80 students.
It opened the outlook of students in robotics field.
SUMMARY: As a part of the Industrial Visit (IV), the students
were provided with an opportunity to gel academics with
fun as they visited companies like Bosch, BSNL as well as
participated in fun activities like camel riding.

Annual technical fest 360 Degrees held in collaboration
with 10 other colleges Sardar Patel Institute of Technology,

Summary: The festival was attended by around 100
students. Technical and non technical events were held
and the students had a good time.

Event: Industrial Visit

Venue: Bangalore, Mysore and Coorg
Date: 27th June - 5th July 2012
Summary: 127 students went for the Industrial Visit. We
visited MICROSOFT Company in Bangalore, ISRO, HAL
Centre (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited), Vishveshwariya
museum, Mysore Palace and many more places.
Students enjoyed the trip. It was very informative as
industries like Microsoft and ISRO were visited. In ISRO,
satellite transmission was showcased by their head. This
trip gave good reviews from students and faculty who
accompanied the trip.

SUMMARY: This seminar aimed at making students
understand the benefits and logistics of higher education
in India as well as abroad and the pros and cons of both.

EVENT: Seminar on ‘Embedded Systems’

SUMMARY: The lecturer gave the students in depth
information about the technology used in Embedded
Systems and the current scenario and scope of the skill.

EVENT: Seminar on ‘How to present TPP’
Conducted by Mr. Saket Tawade, Senior Design Engineer,
L&T
DATE/ VENUE: October 2011, ED Hall, UMIT.
SUMMARY: This seminar aimed at making students
understand what exactly is a Technical Paper Presentation
(TPP), how to present it and the importance of the role of
TPP in the engineering curriculum.

EVENT: Technical Fest 360 Degrees.
DATE/ VENUE: 11th and 12th of February 2012.
SUMMARY: The following is a list and brief description of
the events that were held as a part of the fest:
1. Technical conference: Technical Paper Presentation.
2. Robotrix: Participants pitch their Robots against each
other in rounds like, Robo-soccer, Robo-race, etc.
3. MIROR-O-MANIA: Mirror based puzzles, games and
quizzes to be solved within the given time constraint.
4. Mini IEEE-Xtreme: Event testing the participants’
coding skills.
5. Treasure Hunt
6. Poster making: In this a poster is to be designed
wherein you have to put all your ideas either using
computer or on chart paper on a particular word.
7. Cover 360: News paper writing contest covering the
entire fest.
8. Minute to Win it: One minute fun events.
9. Cityville: Students had to plan a eco-friendly city
making the best use of resources.
6. EVENT: Seminar on ‘What Industry Expects from
Freshers’
