Kilimanjaro Challenge
5,895m
Climb to the top of the world’s highest freestanding mountain and the roof of
Africa, on one of the least visited routes, in support of SIC Tanzania.
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest free standing mountain in the world. Just 200 miles (325 km) from the equator,
Kilimanjaro's glistening peak of snow and ice looms high above the African Great Rift Valley.
Kilimanjaro is a place of myth and legend, this white mountain of the Maasai beckons to adventurers and
travelers from around the world intent on capturing the spirit of Africa's highest mountain. This Challenge
includes a 6 day ascent to the roof of Africa. Starting at Rongai on the Eastern side of Kilimanjaro. This side of the
mountain is relatively dry and has relatively short forest zone. It skirts the base of Mawenzi and then ascends via
Gillman’s Point to Uhuru Peak. The descent is via the Marangu route. The trip is fully supported with spacious
guest tents, mattress and pillow as well as a mess tent with lightweight tables and chairs and all cutlery. Our
trips also include a toilet tent in camp and most importantly knowledgeable professional guides that go through
bi annual training. Our logistics team at our base monitors your trip from start to finish.
This Challenge, to the highest point in Africa, is in support of SIC Tanzania. Funds raised through the challenge
will support SIC Tanzania in their work to limit the impact of HIV/AIDS in Tanzania. Sign up today!

(Breakfast) END OF SERVICES
I have to raise $1,000 - where does it go?
The funds you raise through the SIC Your Peak
Your Week Kilimanjaro Challenge will be
distributed by the Peaks Foundation to
Support for International Change (SIC) in
support of Tanzanian women and girls
effected by HIV/AIDS.
SIC is a non-profit organization which aims to
limit the impact of HIV/AIDS in underserved
communities and to train future leaders in
global health and development.
SIC believes that the HIV/AIDS crisis creates
both an imperative to act and an opportunity
to learn. SIC envisions a world where HIV/
AIDS no longer limits length or quality of life
or reduces the social or economic
development of communities, and where
young people learn the skills to address the
health crises of future generations
The SIC approach
SIC was founded in August 2002 with the
dual goals of limiting the impact of HIV/
AIDS in Tanzania and training future
leaders for global health and
development. In the rural communities
where we work, poor infrastructure and
widespread poverty limit access to HIV
testing and prevention services, and leave
people living with HIV socially and
physically isolated from care. Public clinics
provide VCT and antiretroviral medications
in urban centers, but lack of information,
stigma and the costs of transportation all
represent barriers to access and leave
these services beyond the reach of
Tanzania’s rural majority. As a result, HIV
transmission continues, few people are
tested in the villages and many of those
living with AIDS die without accessing
treatment.
In response to this crisis, SIC currently works in rural villages in northern Tanzania, offering a comprehensive set of
community based services to combat HIV/AIDS. SIC supports a Community Health Worker (CHW) Program, a Peer
Educators (PE) Program in secondary schools, community-based health awareness campaigns, and mobile Voluntary
Counseling and Testing (VCT).
