British Airways Community Learning Centre Primary Resource Pack Welcome to the British Airways Primary Resource Pack. Enclosed in this pack are some ideas for lessons and resources that can be used in the classroom. The pack includes word search/quizzes/classroom exercises and other activities. Photocopies can be made of all the resources. Children may enjoy writing their own names on their passports and destinations on their tickets. AN AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCE Aim: SESSION To give pupils an awareness of the role of Cabin Crew Classroom Set-up: Objectives: Experience of a simulated aircraft environment An understanding of the cabin crew role Experience of how to deal with passengers Curriculum Links: Geography - Journeys Numeracy Personal, Social and Health Education Classroom to be set up to simulate an aircraft environment. Chairs to be arranged in rows. Below is a diagram with some suggestions. Each row and seat to be numbered. Pupil’s name and seat numbers to be written on the boarding card prior to the activity. • Pupils to board the aircraft from the classroom door. Teacher to demonstrate excellent Customer Service and role model being Cabin Crew. Key Words: Cabin Crew Boarding Aircraft Passport Boarding Cards • Pupils to find their seat as allocated on the boarding card. • When all passengers have boarded the teacher to stand at the front giving the welcome announcement. • Ask open questions about being on a plane. Who flies the aircraft? What do you call the person who looks after the passengers? Where do you want to fly to? • Ask for some volunteers to be cabin crew and they are to do the meal service. Give the pupils the tray and brief them on being Cabin Crew. • Pupils to give either a drink or food to some chosen passengers on board. ROLE PLAY INFORMATION Aim: TThe teacher or a pupil to dress up as one of the following. The rest of the class to guess what their job is. To give pupils an awareness of different jobs within the airline industry Objectives: An understanding of 6 main roles at the airport Curriculum Links: Resources Included: PILOT A pilot wears uniform. In their briefcase they will have maps and a compass. Why do you think they need this? Tell them about your role. British Airways Community Learning Centre This activity focuses on 6 job roles within the airline industry. Pages 8 – 10 have the job descriptions and pages 11 – 13 are cards with the 6 job roles. Pupils need to match the job description to the job card – there are 3 job descriptions for each job. Primary Resource Pack 7. 8. 1. I look after the passengers on the aircraft I serve meals, drinks and duty free goods and try and make sure that the passengers have a comfortable journey I am trained to deal with any problems in the cabin and to help people in emergencies I look after the passengers at the airport I greet the passengers and check in their baggage. I give them their boarding cards for their seats on the aircraft I work at the Customer Service Desk in the airport answering any questions the passengers have about flights and help with any other problems they may have British Airways Community Learning Centre I check that the aeroplane is loaded properly and has enough fuel. I talk to the engineer, and turnaround manager to check that the aeroplane is safe to fly I meet the aircraft on arrival and open the doors to allow passengers to get off I fly the aeroplane Before take-off I look at weather reports and route maps with my co pilot I speak to the pilot and I make sure that the tyres are checked and are safe for landing and take-off I mend anything on the aircraft which is broken Primary Resource Pack 9. 10. 1.
