2011 Season Opener

Greyhounds Ready to Open Eighth
Season Against Southwest
Opening Up
The Greyhounds are 4-2-1 in season openers over
their seven seasons, opening successfully at Adams
State last season. ENMU also has won three of its
last four season openers. Last season, Eishu Kanemitsu tallied the first goal for the Hounds, as ENMU
cruised to a 6-0 win.
Inside the Series
The Greyhounds are 3-2 against University of the
Southwest, and have won the last four meetings. The
teams last met in the 2009 season opener, when Kal Herbert and Emerson Rodrigues scored back to back goals in
the final minutes of the first half on the way to a 3-1 win.
The Mustangs’ last win Over ENMU came on October
2, 2005. Rhen Salas gave Eastern a 1-0 lead, 13:57 into
the contest, but Jarred Zitt scored the final two goals to
give USW the 2-1 win.
The Hounds are 6-2-1 against University of Texas of
the Permian Basin and have emerged victorious in each
of the last three meetings. In 2010, Eastern swept a home
and home series against the Falcons.
UTPB’s last win in the series came on September 1,
2009, by a 2-0 score, in Odessa.
Eastern is 0-1 against Lubbock Christian, with the
only meeting being a 1-0 setback on the road last season.

Kal Herbert enters the
season tied for third in career
points (36, with Edgar Bear and
Keith Vargas) and just three
points away from second place.
Andy Wilkinson and Herbert
are third and fourth in career
points per game (1.07 and
0.97). Herbert is tied for fourth
in career goals (12) and just
three from tying Jared Morris.
Herbert’s five game-winning
goals tie him for the career record, with Emerson Rodrigues
and Ryan McClanahan. His last
game-winner came on September 26, 2010, at Newman.
Wilkinson also has a pair of
game-winning goals. The duo
has yet to both score in a single
game.
Chris Sheridan’s 3.43 saves
per game average is the third
best in school history, while
Josh Bussen’s .722 save percentage is second best. Bussen
is tied for third in career wins
(5), while Sheridan has three
victories.

• Served as a graduate assistant with the Greyhounds
• Head coach for women’s soccer at Midlands Lutheran
• Was an assistant coach and player for Sioux Falls Spitfire
• Alma Mater: Eastern New Mexico University (2006)
Entering his fourth season at the
helm of the Greyhounds, Harold
Muñoz guided the 2010 squad to new
heights by leading the team to its first
ever national renking debuting at 17th
in the NSCAA national poll. In the
same season, the Greyhounds achieved
another milestone by receiving its
highest ever regional ranking (#2) in
the South Central NSCAA Poll.
In 2008, his first season as the
Greyhounds head coach, he lead the
team to its best finish in the Southwest
Soccer Conference (SSC), which is affiliated with the Lone Star Conference.
The Hounds finished third in the SSC
and were able to attain a #5 ranking in
the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division
II South Central poll (September 30,
2008). Coach Muñoz’s Greyhounds
also recorded historic first-time wins
over conference rivals Northeastern
State University and nationally-ranked
West Texas A&M University.
While attaining his master’s in
sports administration at ENMU, Muñoz served as the graduate assistant
coach for the Greyhounds in the first
two years of the program’s existence.

where he was a First Team All-American Midwest Conference selection.

Muñoz and his wife Natalie live in
Portales with their ten-year-old son,
Nolan.
Mexico University, Muñoz was the
head women’s soccer coach at Midland Lutheran College where the Warriors recorded one of their best seasons
(2007) in the program’s history on the
way to a 13-2-4 overall record and
the NAIA Region V tournament final.
The team set school records for the
longest undefeated streak and the least
amount of losses in a single season. In
2006, he served as both the men’s and
women’s assistant coach at MLC.
Coach Muñoz is a former semiprofessional player in the Canadian
Professional Soccer League (North
