WHAT’S NEW?
Food Truck Culture
It’s no secret that the foodie culture
has erupted within the last decade.
The prevalence of social media and renewed concern in what ingredients are being
consumed has led to a culture that is interested in food as something more than
nourishment. Keeping those things in mind, some restaurateurs have opted out of
the traditional brick-and-mortar location and sought a different approach to “fast
food.” Tupelo has embraced the food truck culture and currently has three great
options available on any given day and we’re certain there are more on the way!

SHOPPING
Tupelo is proud to offer a shopper’s paradise with a diverse collection of one-of-a-kind shops,
outlet stores, pottery shops, antique shops, unique bookstores, consignment boutiques, and a
regional mall. Three of our most distinct shopping areas are historic Downtown Tupelo, Midtown
Shopping District, and the area surrounding The Mall at Barnes Crossing, but the shopping is
great all over, so hit all the nooks and crannies, and you are sure to find a shop you love.
Downtown Tupelo
From unique one-of-a-kind specialty stores to the corner
department store that has been in business for over 100
years, Downtown Tupelo is a “MUST” on your list of shopping
destinations. Locally owned and operated, our downtown
businesses offer a shopping experience that you will remember and enjoy
for many days and years to come. In fact, in most of our establishments,
the owner will be on hand to help you with your selections and choices.
In addition to the fun historic elements of Downtown Tupelo, you will be
pleased to find eclectic gifts, unique artwork, novelty items, antiques,
designer clothing, accessories, and so much more. Plus, there are several
restaurants intertwined to round out your shopping
experience. With all the convenience of parking
and walking and the nostalgia of a traditional
downtown, Downtown Tupelo offers a pleasurable
shopping experience, like Tupelo Hardware where
Gladys bought Elvis’ first guitar, that you are sure to enjoy.
For more information on Downtown Tupelo, visit www.
tupelomainstreet.com.
Midtown Shopping District
Tupelo’s Midtown District offers a variety of 24 locally-owned businesses
nestled in an established shopping destination just off Main Street and west of
Crosstown. Shoppers will delight in gifts and full-service florals, wedding attire,
and jewelry in addition to clothing boutiques, interior design, and furnishings,
outstanding antiques, and health, beauty, and fitness options including everything
for the golfer. Midtown District is also home to a full-service pharmacy, printer,
a complex of medical and professional services, and a bank. You can find more
about this established shopping district by visiting their Facebook page.

TRIP IDEAS
Girl Friend Getaways
Girls, Girls, Girls ... And one very special guy!
Grab your favorite girlfriends, put on the appropriate road trip music (Elvis,
of course) and head to Tupelo, Mississippi! What lies ahead of you are three
great days of girl time filled with Elvis, great food, and the time you need to
get back to the real you. You’ll head home rested, relaxed, and pampered, and
will take a little of Tupelo with you and forever put a little Elvis in everything
you do!
It’s about you – you’ve got no time for
any guy - even Elvis. Use the time on
the road trip to Tupelo to cast all your
worries away and arrive in town with an “it’s all about me mindset.”
You can fly solo on this one or bring your best girlfriend, but there’s
no drama allowed. From massage and makeup lessons to shopping and dinner just the
way you want it, this trip is designed to get you focused and feeling great about yourself.
Pamper Me Pretty!
Romantic Escapes
Get back in touch with the love
of your life by getting away from
your real life. Jump in a car and
head to Tupelo where it’s more than just the end of the week,
it’s the start of an “us” revolution. The next few days are filled
with activities designed to get you back in the groove including
a couples massage, the sexy music of Elvis, rooftop dinners and
private dance lessons. You’ll leave with a connection – to Tupelo
and to each other!
Love Is in the Air
So, romance may mean a
little something different
for the two of you. You
don’t have to spend every waking moment together to be on a
romantic getaway. Let’s play it like this – golf, a cigar bar, and the
Tupelo Automobile Museum may keep him occupied while you
shop, antique, and spa the day away. But, the important thing
is you come back together for a great dining experience and a
little live music to end the night. Remember, it’s not how you
get there, it’s who brings you home!
Until We Meet Again

TRIP IDEAS
Guy Trips
Start this guy revolution on the golf
course where you are required to
shut out the stress of the real world
for at least 18 holes. After you’ve worked up a sufficient
appetite, have lunch like a real man - feed your pie hole at
one of the outstanding food trucks serving up everything
from creole to BBQ. Next, it’s on to one of our great fishing
holes to get your hook wet. Finish the day with dinner and
conversation at one of Tupelo’s fine restaurants.
A Hole in One
Sometimes you just need to get away
and do manly things among your man
friends and Tupelo is the perfect place
to get your man card punched. Start with a hike along an 8,000 year
old Indian trail, followed by a friendly competition at the shooting
range. Then on to the manliest of meals – good Southern BBQ
before you check out over 100 cars that span automotive history.
Round out the day with a stop at the cigar bar before heading to
live music and dinner served at what used to be a livery stable.
What could be more manly than that?
Man Among Men
Family Vacation
Sometimes a family just needs an
adventure together and a Tupelo
safari fits the bill. Start at the Tupelo
Buffalo Park and Zoo where you can board a Monster Bison
Bus and hand-feed the buffalo herds grazing throughout the
park. Move on just three miles down the road for a picnic
in Ballard Park, a serene and beautiful setting that features a
lake, playground, and walking track. Although ducks are about
the most exotic animal you’ll find here, the rare breed you’ll be
searching for is the relaxed family spending some quality time
together. Continue your explorations at the Oren Dunn City Museum located in Ballard
Park and unearth the true history of Tupelo’s colorful past. A trip to HealthWorks! Kids
Museum has you exploring your health and how you can be a fitter family. You don’t
have to be far from home to make a memory that lasts a lifetime!

BUSINESS AFTER HOURS
So, you’ve got a little “me” time after a hard day’s work and you’re looking for something
to help you unwind. Here are a few suggestions to enjoy your time on the road.
Scenic Drive
How about a little more time “on the road?”
But, it’s not any road, it’s a national scenic
byway and an All-American Road with plenty
of opportunities to commune with nature. The
Natchez Trace Parkway offers a reprieve from
the world and will allow you to get revived for
the coming day’s business. Historic sites and
walking trails along the way offer a glimpse
into the Parkway’s history.
Shopping
When’s the last time
you had a few hours
to spend in a dressing
room? Take advantage
of it. Most stores offer
free shipping to a
store near you! You won’t even have to haul
it home.
Dinner and a Movie
No compromises! It’s
your choice – where to
eat, what movie to see,
butter on your popcorn
or not! You’re on the road for business,
but you can still have a little fun!
Live Music
Okay, it’s a no-brainer –
YOU MUST SEEK OUT
MUSIC while in the
birthplace of Elvis! Ask a local – we all keep
our ear to the ground for the beat of the
drum.
Access our live music listings by visiting
www.tupelo.net on your smartphone or you
can scan the QR Code below.

Patrons step back in history
In the telling of Tupelo’s history, the Oren Dunn Museum captures the essence of the
American story in rural America. From a vintage village including an original dogtrot
cabin to year-round educational programming, visitors at the museum are invited to
relive the history of a community named the “First All-America City.”
Tupelo Veterans Museum, housed inside the city museum, displays a private
collection compiled to remember the wars fought by Americans. Chronologically,
the museum’s treasures begin with the Civil War and feature a document signed by
Abraham Lincoln, a pistol, a soldier’s diary, and items soldiers carried in their pockets.

The Hills National Heritage Area covers a 30-county region affectionately known
as the “Hill Country.” Culture is heavily influenced by the intersection of the
Appalachian Region and the Mississippi Delta, and the Hills has its own cultural
persona evident throughout the region. The center displays little-known facts about
Mississippi legends and offers an abundance of information on members throughout
the region. It’s your best stop to understand the Hills National Heritage Area.

Part of Rock ’n’ Roll history
Founded in 1925 by the same family that owns it today, Tupelo Hardware Co. played
a pivotal role in music history. In January 1945, Gladys and Elvis Presley entered
Tupelo Hardware to look for Elvis a 10th birthday present. The story goes that Elvis
wanted a rifle, and being very protective of her young charge, Gladys refused. It is
said that Elvis reacted quite loudly to the refusal, and a store employee and Presley
family friend reached into a case and brought out a guitar and handed it to the boy,
hoping to calm him down. Elvis loved the guitar and agreed to purchase it instead
of the rifle.

ATTRACTIONS
Mississippi Blues Trail
The Mississippi Blues Trail marks an unforgettable
journey in the land that spawned the single most
important root source of modern popular music.
Whether you’re a die-hard blues fan or a casual traveler
in search of an interesting trip, you’ll find facts you didn’t
know, places you’ve never seen, and you’ll gain a new
appreciation for the area that gave birth to the blues.
Tupelo is honored with two markers on the Mississippi
Blues Trail.
Elvis Presley Birthplace - Elvis Presley revolutionized
popular music by blending the blues he first heard as
a youth in Tupelo with country, pop, and gospel. Many
of the first songs Elvis recorded for the Sun Record label in Memphis were covers of
earlier blues recordings by African-Americans, and he continued to incorporate blues
into his records and live performances for the remainder of his career.
Shake Rag Community - located at the Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau
Welcome Center Shake Rag, located east of the old M&O (later GM&O) railway
tracks and extending northward from Main Street, was one of several historic
African-American communities in Tupelo. By the 1920’s blues and jazz flowed freely
from performers at Shake Rag restaurants, cafes, and house parties, and later from
jukeboxes, while the sounds of gospel music filled the churches. Tupelo’s blues legacy
is perhaps most widely known for its influence on a young Elvis Presley, who lived
adjacent to the African-American neighborhoods of “Shake Rag” and “The Hill.”
Mississippi Country Music Trail
Country music is a direct descendant of the
Blues—a music form that was born right here
in Mississippi. To commemorate this important
part of our rich heritage, Mississippi created the
Mississippi Country Music Trail. Tupelo is honored
with a marker on the trail located at the Elvis
Presley Birthplace and titled “Elvis Country.”
Raised on country music here in Tupelo, first
introduced as “The Hillbilly Cat,” then by RCA
Victor as “the hottest new name in country music,”
Elvis Presley’s revolutionary musical mix always
had country as a key ingredient. Appearing on
the country charts over 50 times, Presley’s music
pushed traditional country toward the modernizing Nashville Sound, which followed
the pop, if not the rock ’n roll path he’d fashioned. Elvis would record the country songs
he loved throughout his career.
