Dancing Queen features brand-new comedy from Leslie Jordan’s extraordinary life and new arrangements of some of our favorite music by ABBA. My guess is that most gay men, including Leslie Jordan, could find an accompaniment for their life’s journey in this music. Just look at those titles: “Does Your Mother Know?,” “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight),” and “Lay All Your Love on Me.” At last we’re able to sing “I Do! I Do! I Do! I Do! I Do!” legally in the great state of Washington, although I hope it “takes” after just one “I do.” You’re going to experience a wonderful couple of hours of music today, and learn just a little more (perhaps too much) about our favorite tiny gay funny man Leslie Jordan. Tonight, you are the winner, and you will take it all home with you. Don’t forget to join Seattle Men’s Chorus (SMC) and the 5th Avenue Theatre in a concert production of the musical Hairspray this June. We’ve lined up a stellar cast and have your 200 favorite chorus boys adding to the talent on stage. If you were one of the lucky ones who saw Hairspray in its Seattle showcase before going on to Broadway, you know Seattle loves this show! It went on to Broadway and won Best Musical and another seven Tony Awards. Don’t miss it. I’m really looking forward to the 2013-2014 seasons for SMC and Seattle Women’s Chorus (SWC). Details will be coming out shortly, but I do want to mention that SMC travels to Germany in June 2014 to present Falling in Love Again, the stunning choral drama about gay men in the Holocaust. Prior to the tour, we’ll have a single performance at the Paramount in Seattle. Look for an announcement about our full 2013-2014 season soon! Please consider helping to support SMC to go on this historic tour. We’re raffling off two complete tour packages to Germany so you can travel with SMC to cities such as Leipzig, Cologne and Berlin (where you’ll participate in the 2014 Berlin Gay Pride Festival). OS 010 From the Board President Throughout the year, the Choruses reach out to the community to entertain, enlighten, unify and heal our audience and members through the power of words and music to recognize the value of all people and their relationships. Tonight, with the music of ABBA and the narrative exploits of comedian Leslie Jordan, Seattle Men’s Chorus will undoubtedly entertain! What a thrill to be able to offer the blend of these extraordinary talents to you in one show! Our outreach goes beyond mainstage productions and continues year round. The organization works tirelessly to make a difference through issues like marriage equality, coordinating food drives for organizations such as Lifelong AIDS Alliance and Hopelink, and working to bring music to local schools that no longer have funding for arts programs. We constantly work to build partnerships that will allow us to reach more communities around the state and country. This year, in addition to offering tickets to LGBT youth and their families, we are now providing complimentary charter bus transportation as part of our Youth Ticket Program, so folks from Mt. Vernon, Everett, Olympia, and Tacoma can more easily attend our concerts. Dancing Queen will be performed in Bremerton and Olympia as we continue to reach out to entertain, enlighten, unify, and heal. Seattle Men’s Chorus and Seattle Women’s Chorus come together with Village Theatre’s KIDSTAGE and Book-It Repertory Theatre to present our annual FREE Children’s Concert on April 6, which is an afternoon of musical and theatrical entertainment in the world-class McCaw Hall! I hope your calendar includes our annual Black Tie and Sequins Auction, “Springtime in Paris,” on May 11 at Fremont Studios, as this event raises critical funds that support our productions and outreach programs. As always, I hope you will think of Seattle Men’s Chorus and Seattle Women’s Chorus throughout the year as the choruses continue to change hearts and minds through the power of music.
