Traveling around Gorenjska with an Electric Vehicle
Travelling with electric
vehicles - an interesting
and environmentally
friendly experience
About the project
Journeys, trips and constant desire to experience
something new are becoming a part of modern life.
However It is becoming increasingly apparent that
current forms of transport and tourism have several
negative effects for the environment, e.g. noise and
greenhouse effect.
Charging stations are also suitable for charging smaller
electric vehicles such as bicycles or scooters, so they
represent one of the initiatives for the »local green
mobility.«
Traffic pollution in the Gorenjska region is endangering
sensitive environment of green alpine valleys and
tourist places in the countryside. Local people deal
with those on a daily basis, and the nature with its
flora and fauna is endangered as well.
Electric vehicles on their way to Gorenjska
Rapidly growing numbers of electric vehicles are
becoming a trend in all developed countries which brings
opportunities in Gorenjska and Slovenia to introduce a
means of transport which are more environmentally
friendly.
Travelling with a quiet electric car or visiting natural
sights on an electric bicycle does not only mean cleaner
environment. While recharging the vehicle, you can use
your time to get to know the sights of the place or taste
the local culinary specialties.
Nevertheless, electric vehicles have their needs regarding
the infrastructure and awareness, education and
motivation of people as potential users in the future. The
project Gorenjsko EleKtrO potovanje (Electric travelling
around Gorenjska) was created to enable and encourage
a green way of travelling and discovering the beauties of
the Gorenjska countryside.
The project Gorenjsko EleKtrO potovanje (Electric
travelling around Gorenjska) launched the first
interconnected route for electric vehicles in Gorenjska
and Slovenia. Visiting natural sights and places of
tourist interest in the countryside is now possible in
an environmentally friendly way.

A network of charging
stations for the recharging
of electric vehicles
Charging stations are also an important component
of the educational programme which will foster
long-lasting awareness and motivation of the
local community, the young and visitors about the
advantages of electric mobility.
The project offers opportunities for the local population
and the development actors to develop sustainable
economic activities connected with the functioning
of an individual charging station and the entire route
(e.g. electric bicycle rentals, green tourism).
The project was prepared within the Leader axis
of the Rural development programme of the
Republic of Slovenia 2007-2010 by partners
Elektro Gorenjska d.d. (project leader), Centre
for sustainable rural development Kranj and
Just EE d.o.o., company for the development of
electric vehicles.

How to use charging
stations along the
Gorenjska route?
The route for travelling with electric vehicles around
Gorenjska consists of 5 charging stations: in Jezersko,
Preddvor, Bled, Bohinj and Kranjska Gora. It is possible
to travel all around Gorenjska without the fear of
having to unexpectedly stop the journey for running
short of »fuel«. The network of charging points in
Gorenjska also enables travelling to Italy (via Rateče)
and Austria (via Jezersko).
Each of the charging stations has a three-phase socket
(3x16A) for larger and 2 one-phase sockets (16A) for
smaller cars. All of them are signposted with a standard
sign and suitable for charging electric bicycles and
scooters as well.
