This incredible effort brings the Texas Open’s total charitable contribution to $95 million - $90.5 million of which has been raised since 2002 when Valero became the tournament’s title sponsor. This helps put the Valero Texas Open closer to the “Drive to $100 Million for Charities” milestone. And for the 13th consecutive year, the tournament is among the Top 3 of the PGA TOUR charitable leaderboard. VALERO TEXAS OPEN We aren’t going to stop at $100 million. Gorder said. It’s just a milestone. 4 VALERO BENEFIT FOR CHILDREN TY VAL IE D The Valero Texas Open also raised charitable dollars through a variety of programs including its pro-am golf tournaments, corporate sponsorships, ticket sales, the Birdies for Charity program in which nonprofit organizations solicit pledges for every birdie made during tournament week, and the Chip In for Schools program, which allows schools to sell discounted tournament tickets and keep all the proceeds. BIR Funds were raised through Valero Texas Open sponsorships combined with the Valero Benefit for Children – a fund raising event in which 2,500+ participants enjoyed golf outings across 11 of San Antonio’s premier golf courses or a sporting clays competition, all of which was held the Monday following the Valero Texas Open. O TEXAS O ER N PE – Joe Gorder President & CEO, Valero Energy Corporation RI For us, this is what the tournament is all about; it’s about the hundreds of children’s charities that benefit from our efforts, and the constant support of our spectators and sponsors. N PE PRIVATE EVENING FUNCTIONS O TEXAS O R E S FOR CHA BIRDIES FOR CHARITY The Valero Texas Open’s Birdies for Charity®, a fundraising program designed in 1997, gives participating charities and schools a unique platform to generate contributions. A no-cost program, Birdies for Charity, gives 100% of the funds raised back to the participating organizations. Funds are generated by soliciting pledges from individuals and corporations. Birdies for Charity is like a walk-a-thon, but instead of donating per mile, participants make a pledge for every birdie made at the Valero Texas Open. The 2014 Valero Texas Open had 1,784 birdies made, so a pledge of $0.01 yielded a donation of $17.84. Donors also have the ability to make a one-time donation with the flexibility to pay in advance or to be billed after the tournament. Donations are accepted from anywhere around the world and are tax deductible, thanks to the Valero Texas Open’s non-profit 501(c)3 status. The 2014 fundraising campaign, which combined efforts of one hundred and fifteen charities and schools, grew 32% over 2013 generating over $1.84M with a recordbreaking collection rate of 99.5% from donor commitments. These hardworking organizations were awarded an additional $120,000 combined, based on performance, through incentive programs funded by the Valero Texas Open. CHIP IN FOR SCHOOLS Chip In for Schools is a program initiated by the Valero Texas Open to help participating schools earn money for their school programs (student groups, sport teams, classes, etc.) by selling advanced tickets to the Valero Texas Open for $20 and keeping $15 from each ticket sold. The funds raised through Birdies for Charity and Chip In for Schools contribute to the overall total of charitable funds raised through the Valero Texas Open and the Benefit for Children, which raised $9 million in 2014. This incredible effort brings the Texas Open’s total charitable contribution to $95 million - $90.5 million of which has been raised since 2002 when Valero became the tournament’s title sponsor.
