Seniors Honored This Sunday
C
ome help us honor our graduating seniors
this Sunday as they prepare to begin their
new journeys in life:
 Jordan C. Arland-Jackson is the son of
Leslie Arland and Terrence
Jackson and grandson of Marilyn Arland.
He is a graduate of Southcrest Christian
School and is attending either Texas Tech
or a Christian university.
 Abi Bradshaw is the daughter of Cindi
Bradshaw and a graduate of Coronado
High School. She is undecided but intends
to study environmental engineering.
 Drew Chapman is the son of Mike and
Gaylyn Chapman and a graduate of Frenship High School. He plans to attend
Texas A&M at Galveston to study engineering.
 Reagan Collins is the daughter of Sandy Collins
and goddaughter of Virginia Brown. She is salutatorian of Coronado High School and a Commended
National Merit Scholar. She will attend Texas Tech
University Honors College as an accounting major
with pre-medicine and will play tennis on the Tech
Women’s Tennis Team. She hopes to someday be a
pediatric surgeon.
 William Gerber is the son of Buddy
Gerber and Tammy Gerber and a graduate of Lubbock High School. He is going
to Austin College to study international
relations in order to be an international
correspondent.
 Kynnedy Gleason is the daughter of
Mendy Montgomery Gleason and Jay
Gleason. She is a graduate of Coronado
High School and is first going to Eastern
New Mexico University in Ruidoso
and then to a larger university to study
marine biology.
 Michael David Sharp is the son of Emily Sharp
and the late David Sharp. He will graduate from All
Saints High School and plans to attend Texas Tech
University and major in English.

Nagy is Vice Provost for International Affairs at Texas Tech University. Previously he
was the U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia from 1999-2002, and Ambassador to Guinea
from 1996-1998. He has over 20 years experience in the American Foreign Service.
Ambassador Nagy was born in Budapest, Hungary, on April 29, 1949, and arrived in
the United States as a political refugee in 1957. He received a B.A. from Texas Tech
University in 1972 and an M.S.A. from George Washington University in 1978. Nagy
will address current issues of immigration policy and crisis from his unique perspective as an am-
bassador, former political refugee, and person of Christian faith. Childcare for birthkindergarten available by request only; email judy@secondb.org.

Church members are encouraged to turn in nominations for the 6 at-large positions to be filled on the new
Executive Council by June 1. Nominations may be
submitted by prayer card, email, or other written message to Susie White in the office at susie@secondb.org.
The Executive Council shall be comprised of 9 total members:
six at-large members, the Chair of the Diaconate, the Finance
Chair, and the Senior Pastor. Terms for the members shall be as
follows: At-large members -- 3 years; Chair of the Diaconate --1
year; Finance Chair -- 3 years; Senior Pastor -- ex officio.
Nominations for the at-large positions will be solicited from
the congregation. All nominees must be a member of Second
Baptist Church and exhibit appropriate personal integrity and leadership ability, including commitment to his or her family, stewardship of his or her time, talents and financial resources on behalf of
the church, and reputation within the community. Nominees will be
interviewed and qualified by a Diaconate task force including two
pastoral staff members. A final slate of candidates will be presented to the congregation for selection by vote. There is no maximum number of candidates which may be included in the slate put
forward to the congregation. Congregants may vote only one time
for each individual candidate on the slate. The candidate or candidates receiving the top number of votes corresponding to the number of open seats on the Executive Council shall be the newlyelected at-large members. The Finance Chair shall be appointed
by the Executive Council. Selection of the Executive Council chair
and chair-elect shall be determined by the Council and chosen
from within its own membership.
