The ILA Berlin provides not only a comprehensive overview of the latest
programmes and developments of leading aircraft manufacturers, it also
showcases products and solutions from small and medium-sized enterprises in the aerospace industry.
Since 1992, the ILA Berlin has become a fixture in the calendar of aerospace companies based in Northern Germany. In the Hanse Pavilions in
hall 3 (shared with Aviabelt from Bremen) and in the International Suppliers
Centre ISC, around 20 companies and institutes will present their products
and services. The stands at the ILA Berlin will as always be important meeting points for industry insiders and in particular for aerospace companies
of Northern Germany.
Over the last few years, there have been dramatic changes in the supply
structure of the industry and this trend is expected to continue. Aeroplane
manufacturers are sourcing products and solutions from an ever smaller
group of suppliers. This has led to many mergers and acquisitions. The
market is now dominated by a few large players that have established their
own supply chains and outsource some of their production to smaller companies. Only of few of these large industry suppliers are based in Germany.
As a result, German SMEs in the sector face huge international competition
in a market where prices are falling. Engineering firms face even greater
challenges, as there are no new large projects in the pipeline for the coming years that would require their services. Orders are thus expected to be
down for a considerable time to come.
Hanse-Aerospace e.V. therefore wants to develop new strategies and support its partner companies in these rather difficult times. This year the partner country of the ILA Berlin is Turkey. In 2009 Hanse-Aerospace e.V., the
Aegean Free Zone Development and Operating Company ESBAS near Izmir
and its sister association ACA have signed a memorandum of understanding.
Please visit our stand to find out more about the extraordinary performance
of the companies that are part of this endeavour. I wish all exhibitors at our
joint stand all the best for the ILA Berlin 2014!

HANSE-AEROSPACE e. V. is an association of aviation and space industries. Its membership is made up of aviation and space companies representing a wide spectrum ranging from development companies, manufacturers and maintenance firms to service companies specialising in the
aviation and space industries.
About ten percent of all the specialists employed in the German aviation
and space industries are employed by HANSE-AEROSPACE e.V. members.
Altogether our members turn over about eleven billion Euros annually, approximately one and a half billion of it in the aviation and space industries.
The HANSE-AEROSPACE e.V. association represents its members‘ common interests. Its other main tasks are advising its members, coordinating
regional activities, bundling member interests and resources, ensuring
cooperation between them, facilitating common product development
and the exchange of information between them and consulting on, and
coordinating, activities with the city of Hamburg as well as smoothing
international relations. Member companies mutually define memberrelevant problems of interest to all in task-oriented specialised groups
such as those on strategy, personnel, engineering, production and development processes etc. Other subjects of specialised interest are dealt
with in ad hoc working group such as e.g. certification and airworthiness
groups. The association maintains relations with regional economic policy representation bodies so that region-specific infrastructural, research
and technology problems can be dealt with. The association cooperates
nationally with the BDLI and its regional bodies.
Many cooperation agreements with European SME associations and
HANSE-AEROSPACE e.V. lead to a Europe-wide network of expertise in
aerospace. This transnational approach is the main emphasis of our future activities as Europe-wide concentration of effort and facilities is of
existential significance to the indigenous aviation industry.

Aero-Coating is dedicated to coatings with future and safety for Technique, Man & Environment. Since 1996 Aero-Coating delivers high quality surface treatments to the aircraft industry from its location in Wismar
close to the Baltic sea. A highly motivated team is working to keep and
improve the quality requested by our worldwide located customers. Ion
vapor deposition of Aluminum, Vacuum Cadmium, general spray coatings
and aluminum pigmentation is our service mainly for the aerospace industry. Applications are found all over the plane from structures to air
cabin interior and cargo systems. To supplement today’s standard cadmium coatings for corrosion protection Aero-Coating is applying a promising alternative with two different Aluminum coatings today. The so called
IVD process is applied for corrosion protection on high strength titanium
fasteners, structural Aluminum or Steel parts. A lower price alternative for
a broad range of applications is the Aluminum pigmentation with products from e.g. Lisi on fasteners and related products. These coatings are
already available with chrome VI+ free version to head down the REACh
driven path towards environmental friendly systems. Aero-Coating will
improve its portfolio continuously to reduce SVHC materials with and for
our customers.

For almost 20 years AMAS-Engineering GmbH has been active in the fields
of mechanical engineering, automation, sheet metal fabrication, switchgear construction and support services. Our highly motivated team, made
up of engineers, technicians, and qualified workers can look back on
years of accumulated know-how and the ability to live up to the high quality expectations of your customers. Our workforce has meanwhile grown
to 130 employees at our head offices and plants in Neu Kaliß, southeast of
Hamburg in Northern Germany.
Our qualified engineers, technicians and managers are already facing
new challenges and realizing new and innovative products to meet the
customer’s demands. One of those challenges are platforms, based onto
the AMAXS-wheels, which allows the platforms to move omni-directional,
precisely and automated guided millimeters next to the Aircraft’s body.
Another field of activity is the wide range of trainers and simulators for
Aircraft and Military applications. The challenge for the AMAS engineers
is that the users have to feel themselves in the real environment without
using of original parts and surfaces.

With more than 40,000 highly qualified personnel, Hamburg Aviation is one
of the biggest locations in the world’s civil aviation industry. The two giants of the industry, Airbus and Lufthansa Technik, are joined by Hamburg
Airport and more than 300 suppliers, as well as a variety of scientific and
technological institutions. Every one of them contributes know-how and
expertise. Companies, universities, associations, the economic authority
and other partners have come together to form Hamburg Aviation, a cluster dedicated to advancing the city as an aviation location. Together they
pursue a common goal: to network research and development, thereby
bringing to market high-quality products and services for the aviation of
the future – products that are good for passengers and set the standards
in terms of resource protection.
Hamburg Aviation concentrates on four product areas: aircraft and aircraft
systems, cabins and cabin systems, aviation services and air transportation system. On the basis of these product areas, the aviation cluster
developed its strategy, “A new kind of aviation”, for which it was honoured by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as a LeadingEdge Cluster.
Tailored solutions for practical applications
The research and development activities are aimed at developing holistic solutions which enable the customer to manufacture more cost-effi
ciently and at the same time meet quality requirements. Long-term and
innovative research is also organised by using public research programs.
Other individual tasks come from enterprises and are implemented timely
and by meeting practice-related requirements.
Excellence in aviation and aerospace industry
We have numerous cooperation agreements with companies and suppliers from the aviation and aerospace industry. Together with Airbus, we
have, for instance, developed a procedure to connect stringers via stringing coupling through self-piercing rivets (self piercing rivets SPR-S) which
would help accelerate the production process.
