White-steepled churches, brick mill buildings, rambling
farmhouses, and imposing Federal-style homes are all
among the distinctive architectural styles to be discovered
on the winding byways, traveling between the charming
New England towns. Shoppers can explore rustic country stores, independent book dealers, name-brand outlets, sophisticated clothing boutiques, and home décor
shops. Antiques dealers with specialties ranging from
crystal and porcelain to weathervanes, Shaker furniture,
and even mid-century retro memorabilia can be found in
town and along country lanes. Art galleries represent the
many talented artists and photographers who make the
Berkshires their home.

There are many choices when it comes to lodging, whether charming small town surroundings are preferred or a
rural retreat is desired. For those who prefer the elegance
of a Victorian mansion, there are beautiful B&Bs or select
a rustic inn, a sleek contemporary hotel, or even a friendly
campground. There’s a wide array of dining options as
well, from sophisticated fine dining to world cuisine to
hearty farm-to-table fare.
The Berkshire Region
NEW
The scenic drive to the top of Mount Greylock (the highest mountain in Massachusetts) is one way to enjoy the
out-of-doors; other options include a trek on the Appalachian Trail, kayaking on a pristine lake, downhill skiing, a
day of bird-watching or a round of golf, depending on the
season. The Berkshires boast rolling hills, dramatic waterfalls, rivers, streams, lakes and peaceful wildlife sanctuaries, forests, parks, aside bucolic meadows and farmland.
Enjoy your trip around the Berkshires!

The more than one hundred cultural attractions for which
the Berkshires are widely renowned are all the more enjoyable because of its beautiful natural setting. Come
and enjoy superlative museums, world-class concerts,
award-winning theaters, inspired dance, an array of historic sites, and marvelous galleries. The summer months
are traditionally the busiest for the performing arts, but in
recent years the calendar has been full of tempting options all year round.
The Berkshire Region encompasses an area that stretches
over four states with Berkshire County as its focal point in
the center. To help you find your way, we have organized this
brochure into three distinct color coded regional sections:
North, Central and South. Refer to the map on the
page prior to see the location and the towns that comprise
each of the 3 regions.

From the glorious summer sunlight hills and the spectacular autumn foliage to the brilliant white of winter and
the gentle spring breezes, the Berkshires beckon for getaways packed with fun outdoor activities, relaxing spa vacations, or inspiring trips spent savoring the thriving arts
scene. The Berkshires border Vermont, New York, and
Connecticut, and the region is an easy drive from Manhattan or Boston.

When is the foliage at its peak? Although we cannot guarantee
when the colors will be at their finest, traditionally Columbus Day
weekend is considered peak. Each year varies depending on the
weather Mother Nature has given us that year.
How large is Berkshire County? Berkshire County’s total area is
approximately 950 square miles. If you were to traverse Berkshire
County from tip to tail it would take you about 1-½ hours by car. A
good tip to remember when driving in the Berkshires is that each
town is about 10 minutes from the next.

What can I do with my teenagers? The best bet is to get
outside! The Berkshires offers guided river rafting, zip lines, high

as plenty of hiking, biking, skiing and more. If you are looking for a
more relaxing way to spend a few hours then check out the teen
spa packages that many of the local spas offer.

Are there pet friendly hotels and things to do with my dog?
Yes, there are several lodging properties that will accommodate
you and your pet but always best to call and double check their
pet friendly policies. Throughout the Berkshires you will find many
parks and trails where your dog is welcome (most of the time your
dog will have to be on leash though).
