Web: www.tiburonchamber.org E-mail: tibcc@SBCGlobal.net Business of the Month Don Antonio Trattoria Instead of taking a trip to Italy, why not go down to Ark Row and have dinner at Don Antonio Trattoria? This casual, new restaurant at the end of the Main Street Parking lot now is offering a real deal – arrive between 5 and 6 p.m. and have a three-course dinner, including a complimentary glass of wine, all for $29.95. This is an Italian restaurant that everyone in the family can enjoy, and it includes a children’s menu. It gets even better! After co-owners, Antonio Volpicelli and Eduardo Pizzuti, talked to Dean Jones about their interior noise problem, the Tiburon architect searched and discovered a new process where a panel can be installed above the existing ceiling that reduces the noise level by a whopping 80-percent. Plans are to have this job completed very soon. Antonio, who not only is a co-owner but also manages the Tiburon restaurant, is a native of Naples, Italy. Before he went into his family’s food business, he was a professional soccer player until he broke his kneecap at age 18. The family business was a factory that provided food for hospitals, schools and airlines plus a restaurant and culinary school, giving Antonio a wide range of experiences. Coming to San Francisco in 1990, he worked in a number of Marin restaurants, including being host at Salute, manager at Baci and Frantoio and finally general manager at Joe Lo Coco’s. Don Antonio’s Executive Chef Eduardo (Eddie) Velado, left, and Owner Antonio Volpicelli. Against the wall behind them is the new gas fireplace. His co-owner, Eduardo Pizzuti, came here from Italy in 1958 and has owned 18 different restaurants over the past 35 years. The pair agreed at the very beginning they wanted their restaurant to be “for the local people.” The pair installed a totally new kitchen, added a cozy, gas fireplace and a bar in the dining room, put a cork backing under the new wooden floor and attached a piece of carpet under each of the 18 tables to absorb noise. “We want our restaurant to be as comfortable for locals as being in their own homes,” said Antonio. The food is as organic as possible, with free-range meat and locally grown vegetables. On the menu are dishes the owners know, from experience, that most people like the best – homemade lasagna, tortellini, pappardelle, seafood rocata, plus a wide choice of wines and beers. Don Antonio Trattoria is at 114 Main Street, open Tuesdays through Sundays, 5 to 9:30 p.m., validated parking in the Main Street lot. Reservations are advised. Phone, 435-0400.
